My sister was taken to Meritus Medical Center 4 or 5 times from January/February until July. Each time her diagnosis was complicated migraines. In April/May she was kept overnight and had a stroke in the middle of the night while our other sister was staying overnight with her. She was released with the same diagnosis. July 1, 2015, she was kept overnight for observation (released July 2). July 3, she was once again taken to Meritus and released with a diagnosis of complicated migraines. July 5, she was taken to Meritus and diagnosed with a stroke all on her right side. She was kept 19 days, released July 24, 2015. Sent home with instructions that she only needed someone to check on her every once in a while. She was with someone from Friday to Sunday. On Monday, July 27, she fell. Tuesday my daughter and I went to stay with her. When we arrived her face was swollen and she was very sick. We took her immediately to the ER. She was admitted with a very severe case of bilateral pneumonia. She was released August 5 as a fall risk (still wearing the band when she left). No one was around when we left. She walked to the elevator and needed a wheelchair because of being so weak and winded. While in the hospital numerous things happened. Examples: Medication given to her that belonged to someone else . Thankfully, it was her same medication. As a CNA put it, "she has lots of blood in her stool." She called on the phone for my sisters nurse twice and no answer. She looked in the rooms and no nurse. The CNA put blood on the test and went once again to look for my sisters nurse. An hour and a half later her nurse came in to run the test. She questioned the CNA about even doing the test. Which I knew she had done. She then says she doesnt see anything and says, "Ill just say its negative." I questioned why she would say that when I seen the blood myself. She was shocked that I questioned her and said another test would need to be ran when my sister went again. No test was ran again. Mind you, this was also the same nurse that ran the other persons medication and blamed it on someone else. Records proved otherwise. My sister and I were informed by the doctor that she needed a colonoscopy and a sleep study. His tone was that they needed done ASAP because he "didnt want her to go home and die in her sleep." No tests were done before leaving. One her first stay someone put that she had a bowel movement and she hadnt. The nurse who found this out was not happy. She was given a unit of blood the evening before she was released (still with no answer as to why she was bleeding from the bowel, she was released the next day). A needle was found on her floor (from the same nurse). I was horrified to think what may have happened if my nieces little girls had found it and went home to play doctor. I could go on and on, but I hope you get what my sisters visits to Meritus were like. Sadly, because of the stroke, she will never work again and probably never drive. I hate that Meritus is the only hospital close to where she lives. My daughter received excellent care last November, but I think it was because she had a well known specialist who wouldve made heads roll if anything had gone wrong with her care or stay. If Meritus is the only hospital you can use, please dont stay there alone or allow someone you love to be there alone...Its a scary place!

Heres a partial list of why this Hospital deserves 0 or 1 point: C-Diff misdiagnosis Appendix Ruptured Misdiagnosis Leukemia misdiagnosis Oxygen Deprivation at Birth Misdiagnosis Gallbladder surgery often 4-5 hours long with admission to Hospital or further problems Spine Injuries Misdiagnosis Failure to List All Diagnosis in Patient Chart or share results with other doctors. Hemorrhaging misdiagnosis Artery Stenosis misdiagnosis Uterus Fibroids misdiagnosis Ovarian Cyst misdiagnosis Liver, Kidney, Bowel or Urine Misdiagnosis Abnormal Lab Results ignored Urinary Infection misdiagnosis Work Injuries Misdiagnosis Fall on Buttocks at their Hospital Misdiagnosis. My Sacrum continues to be swollen & painful over 1 year later! Lung Nodules Misdiagnosis Upper Abdominal Pain Misdiagnosis Sternum or Chest Pain Misdiagnosis Chronic Pain Misdiagnosis Arthritis Misdiagnosis Medication Side Effects/Adverse Reactions Misdiagnosis or denied MRI misdiagnosis or failure of testing Record Manipulation or denied diagnosis Parital Bowel Obstruction Misdiagnosis Migrating Metal Misdiagnosis Billing errors Ulcers Misdiagnosis Infections Misdiagnosis Once you have been Misdiagnosed, doctors will often follow the previous misdiagnosis & label you as a liar or mental or drug seeker. Doctors often deny medical errors. Its no wonder Medical Errors/Misdiagnosis is causing Death in America. They will quickly prescribe pain medications & injections without proper testing or diagnosis. I have been lied to, lied about, and judged inappropriately by many of these doctors. May God Help Us All! Please report your Misdiagnosis & poor treatment before its too late & you end up with Permeant Damage! I have spoken with two directors here regarding this, and it did not help. Perhaps they all need to attend classes regarding Their Problem. I would love to see a support group formed for those who have suffered with these same issues. Treating patients for symptoms without finding cause of the symptom is not the answer! Chronic Medical Conditions & Chronic Pain & Misdiagnosis causes Permanent Damage/Disability of Chronic Pain/Nerve Damage!

This is a review of the emergency room in the new hospital, If you think of a hospital as a home, some homes are mansions and some are row houses and some are hovels. The new Meritus ER is a cheap double wide mobile home. The floors and baseboards are of the least expensive quality. The doors are fiberboard covered with vinyl and are already scratched and appear dirty. The color of the walls and baseboard show every smudge and speck of dirt, The plastic bumpers on the corners of walls are broken with pieces missing. Hallways are small and cramped with a medical equipment all over the place. The rooms are so small that you have to get up out of your chair so the orderly can take the patient out of the room. In one section of the ER they almost have to take apart the room to get the bed out. Visitors and there children wait outside of rooms because there is no room for them and the hallways look like a busy bus station. So why 4 stars? The people. They are doing the best that they can. They go at 100%. They ask about you and what can they do to help. They treat you great. Wait times are much better than before and the staff are doing the same good job. I have been a patient in both the old and new hospital and ER. The new hospital is better than the old and the new ER is faster. But, the new ER after a year looks worst than the old ER did before it closed. Given a choice of the local hospitals from Cumberland to Frederick I would choose Meritus. A good hospital is made from people and not the way the ER has been finished.

This is the absolute worst place to go for health care. If you want to be treated like a human being I suggest you look elsewhere. 1) I went here for a variety of health problems including seizures. I was told that they believed I had an anxiety disorder and that I was making up all my symptoms. They prescribed me prozac. When I requested further testing, they refused. I went to see a specialist and my blood tests came back positive for late stage Lyme disease. If I had been treated correctly, I might have had a chance of a cure. Now Im stuck with a disease, possibly for the rest of my life. 2) My fiancé was a passenger in an extremely serious car accident. He suffered from injuries to his neck/spine and was in serious pain, had symptoms of tingling, and could not even turn his body. We made the mistake of going to the Meritus emergency room. We waited for 2 1/2 hours, and then he was taken into a room, questioned about his insurance information, and handed a bottle of painkillers. They pushed on his back OVER his shirt (didnt even look at it) and asked if it hurt. He said yes. Then they handed him a bunch of paperwork and told him to leave. No x-rays, no test of mobility, nothing. Then on his paperwork, they listed that he had no injury and that he was good to go back to work. Cant wait for the huge bill were gonna receive for all that "expertise". What is wrong with this place?
