I have owned great danes my whole life, was raised around them, etc. I recently moved to Maryland and adopted a fifteen month old great dane, weighing 145lbs. I needed to get him a rabies shot in order to register him with the county, so I figured, Id go to the Telegraph Road Animal Hospital, as it was nearby. Upon entering at my appointment time, I filled out a form (as it was my first -and last- visit there), then was instructed to bring Max into a tiny exam room. My husband and I took him back. They then tried to take him back to the medical room to weigh him. A nurse/assistant asked me and my husband to come back and help her. The hallway was barely wide enough for two people, and Max had difficulty turning around in such a narrow, dark hallway in an unfamiliar place. He banged his head and tail on the walls as he attempted to turn around, and became even more frightened. At this point, his legs were shaking and his tail was tucked between his legs. One of the more rude assistants grabbed his leash and PULLED, trying to DRAG him to the scale, which, if anyone has ever owned an animal larger than a beagle, you know is a stupid choice. She actually had the nerve to tell us to "push from behind" while she PULLED him. I had to tell her to stop and give me the leash.. at this point, I couldve punched the woman in the face. You are NOT going to treat my pup like this. I pet him, relaxed him as much as I could, and made him comfortable- meanwhile, the assistants and vets were standing around, making impatient expressions and glaring as I told Max it was okay, and calmed him. They actually tried to PICK HIM UP to put him on the small, metal, clanging scale- again, idiotic. At this point, I had to wonder, did any of these people have any experience with large dogs?? I told them to stop, calm the hell down, and stop rushing him. They continued to try to pull him onto the scale, making him more resistant and nervous. I sat down next to the scale, pet him, rubbed him, and what do you know, he walked onto it and stood still. Then, it was back to the exam room. The vet actually tried to push me to get a heartworm test (even though hes been on Heartgard), and told me he needed a new distemper shot. Umm, no? Seriously? I came for the rabies, and only because its county-mandated. They gave him the shot and had to do a "wellness exam" ($48) by taking his temperature and listening to his heart in order for us to get his rabies shot. Then to top it off, "biohazard waste management fee- $4.87" on the invoice to THROW AWAY THE NEEDLE. Are you kidding me?? All in all, a dogs first visit to a new vet is supposed to be a good experience, so that he becomes comfortable. Instead, they rushed us, rushed my dog, and scared him to death only to get to lunch on time. Ridiculous. Search around for a different vet, thats what Im working on. ***Also, look three reviews down below this one. It seems asthough DVM Knox Inman took the liberty of writing a five star review for his own clinic. Fantastic.

I really wish I could give more stars than this. I had an emergency with my baby girl last night. She is a year and a half year old mixed dog. I called this vet because it was close in tears. They took me in immediately. They took amazing care of my girl and treated both of my dogs like their own. Then the vet sat with me and talked to me for a while to make sure I was okay. He made such a terrible moment into something with a plus side. We found an incredible vet. He took my phone call this morning right away with my minor concerns. What he did for us was beyond what any vet needs to do and I will forgive be thankful. Not only that, but he made it incredibly affordable for us. He was beyond generous. Most vets would charge so much for such a terrible time but this vet tried to make it our last concern. Everyone else working offered so much support and came and played with our dogs. They made them feel happy to be there. Thank you so much Telegraph Road Animal Hospital.

This vet is awesome and Dr. Holmes and his staff are GREAT! You can feel their genuine love for pets when you walk through the door. Lexxi (our beloved dog) was welcomed with open arms. Dr. Holmes took his time with her. We just moved here from Houston and was recommended by people on Ft. Meade base and I am so happy! They even called the next day to check on Lexxi. We are so happy that we got a veterinary clinic that loves our dog as much as we do! I am big on customer service and this Clinic is the best. I can guarantee you and your pet will feel loved! Thanks Telegraph Road Animal Hospital. Keep up the good work from my family to yours. We will see you soon!

Pluses and minuses. You can get an appointment almost at any time. Prices for most things are reasonable but way too high for others. A $10-$14 bag of ringers lactated solution costs $86 here. $15 PCR costs over $100. So, they do gouge where they can. The staff is pretty awful at handling anything other than a dog. Dr. Inman is horrible about getting back to you, even after repeated promises. Not the best sanitary conditions. I definitely cant recommend this vet clinic for exotic pets at all. The vets knowledge base is horrible, staff is ham handed and clumsy. Yeah, I moved on.

I absolutely love this place. After reading some of the reviews, I was really nervous about taking my rabbits here, but they are really awesome people. I brought one of my bunnies in because he had an upper respiratory infection and they quickly saw him, handled him carefully, and gave me medicine to give him. They even called several days later to see how he was doing. They are wonderful people and I wouldnt trust my bunnies with anyone else! Also, I have never seen blood stains on any chairs or anything like some of the reviews suggest.

I cant say enough about Dr. Holmes, hes a great vet. My previous dog was treated by him and he has been treating our current dog for her medical needs. I never feel like Im being rushed out the door, he takes the time to sit down with us to go over all our concerns and gives her a thorough exam. The staff is friendly, the office is clean and I dont walk out feeling like I was taken to the cleaners! Great prices compared to the many other vet offices in the area.

I can honestly say that no matter when I call Telegraph they always get me in to see the doctor. They even double booked me once. I use to go to another vet but when I needed them the other vet was not there.. One evening my cat starting having seizures and I rushed her to telegraph. It was in the evening and they had just closed. I banged on the window and they opened up for me...not many place would do that for you that is dedication.. Thank YOU so much
