I took my sick dwarf hamster to Dr. Lewis and the experience was a train wreck. During the exam, she kept my poor little hammie in her hand, holding her by the scruff of her neck, for far longer than was necessary, chatting about irrelevant stuff while oblivious to the stress she was putting on my hamster. Similarly, she kept my very sick little hamster out of her habitat in a metal bowl far, far longer than was necessary (like 20 minutes), even when I pleaded with her to let her go home, just because she found it more convenient (she didnt want to be bothered with taking her out again in case she wanted to administer medicine... which she then didnt). Then, she prescribed some meds for me to administer at home -- but she neglected to specify how long to keep up the antibiotics, meaning I had to chase her down on the phone later (she didnt return my call at first). A few days later, while I was out of town, my conscientious petsitter called her office with new concerns about my sick hamster, and they never called back. My poor little hamster died the next day. In addition, its worth noting that Dr. Lewis has very poor people skills and horrendous bedside manner -- shes very callous and blunt, with zero consideration for your feelings. She actually made me cry! I have two pet bunnies who I love very much, and when I mentioned them she said I had to watch out because (her exact words): "Rabbits love to just drop dead. Its their favorite trick." !?! I was in shock at first, then I couldnt stop the tears and soon there I was, bawling in a vets office. She seemed to know on some level that she was wrong to put it like that, but she refused to acknowledge this or apologize; she just became defensive. I dont know about you, but I wouldnt trust the care of my beloved pets with someone so clearly lacking in basic compassion (not to mention her mistakes with the prescription and failing to return calls). The experience was horrifying, and I will never go back.

Several of my pets have been to ACAC, because my friend worked there as an assistant. One of my dogs, a 9-pounder with a bad past before I rescued him, will get aggressive with strangers if not handled non-threateningly, with gentleness and patience, and the staff were made well aware of this. My friend, who knows him, was working that day so she could be the one to remove him from the kennel and hold him during the procedures. But they did not come get her when it was time. Instead, she walked in on him being handled with sheer brute force, his muzzle on FAR tighter than a muzzle should ever be placed on a dog, and he had urinated all over. He was completely traumatized. Another of my dogs had surgery for bladder stones removal. The incision was made way longer than necessary, causing nerve damage (they acknowledged this), and hes had issues since: frequent urge to urinate, standing as if peeing while nothing or only a drop comes out, and being often unsure of whether he needs to urinate or defecate. I experienced unprofessional, unfriendly, under-skilled and insensitive staff here. And from my friends experience on the job, I could write much more, but suffice it to say I dont recommend taking your pets here. Also, insider info: they shamelessly ask employees, friends and family, and ask employees to ask THEIR friends and family, to submit fake reviews to up their ratings (here and on other sites). And many of them have done so, accounting for most of their 5-star reviews.

I brought my new puppy into this clinic thinking that it would be very informative and educational. I was there for over 2 hours being almost forced to take prescription dog food for my older dog (that they have never seen!) for weight loss, and was told that I had to sign up for puppy classes from some guy that just sits there and talks about his own dogs. ( this poor excuse for a professional sat in the exam room when I was supposed to be "educated" on how to take care of my puppy telling me that we should crate our puppy as punishment and how he knows what hes talking about becuase hes raised champion show dogs) The whole visit and training information were a waste of my time and money and I will never go see them again. The doctor was intrupted in the exam room 3-4 times from what sounded like personal phone calls, and staff coming into the room asking pointless questions, just distracting the doctor. The whole thing was such a mess that the doctor even forgot to give my puppy the vaccine I came in for! I was told just bring her back in and they will take care of it (of course they wanted to charge me yet another office visit fee for a mistake they made!) Very unskilled doctor and staff, dont ever trust them with your animals!

I brought in my lizard a few months ago for bleeding near his hind legs. I came in on time for my appointment, but ended up waiting more than 30 minutes for what I thought was going to be an emergency visit. When my lizard was inspected by the doctor (I forgot her name) she said that my lizards injuries were a result of me taking care of him incorrectly and that I had to buy all of this new equipment. She made me feel pretty bad about it, even though my lizard had been in my care for 16 years and he seemed pretty okay until the bleeding issue. She prescribed me an antibiotic that was in too small a volume to apply accurately and told me he would be fine after a few weeks. A few days later, he passed away on his favorite rock. I looked that the instruction packet she gave me and it was the wrong species of lizard. I ended up spending more on his last few days of life then the entire year before. Although I dont fault the doctor, I think the species should have been double-checked and the medicine prescribed in such a way accurate treatment was possible. I also felt pretty bad about being told I was the reason I made my lizard sick.

I had to leave my vet of 22 years when I moved to Ann Arbor. I was traumatized. I am so grateful I found these folks. From the kindness of the receptionists to the classy, knowledgable professionalism of the vets, it has been such a wonderful experience for me. I have three problem animals. Both Dr. Alexander and Dr. Zechor have bent over backwards to help me. My elderly dog is in the most loving care as she approaches her end days. My pain in the rear dog is being dealt with with patience. The cat, as well. I have also partaken of their grooming getting some of the best groomings I have ever received. My elderly dog gets laser therapy for the pain of her joints. I forgot for a couple of weeks to make an appointment and the difference was astounding. I have recommended these folks and will do so again and again. Your animals have no words. It is so important to have compassionate people know how to help and to do it with a fantastic attitude.
