I would strongly recommend going to any other veterinary clinic before this one. I have had nothing but problems with this clinic. The staff have been inflexible and down-right pompous. I fought with the vet to have them check to see if my dog was hypothyroid. The vet told me there was no way my dog had this condition. I told her based on the symptoms my dog had that I would like to get her at least checked. I was willing to pay the cost and really felt this was the cause of her lethargic behavior and unexplained weight gain. After really holding my ground with much resilience from the vet she finally said that she would run the test if it would make me feel better. Turns out, shes hypothyroid. Fine. But thats not all. After another visit feeling like they were on some other pompous world, I switched vets to the Ann Arbor Animal Hospital (they were terrific by the way). I have recently moved and needed to get my dogs prescription refilled. Since my dog was originally seen at Wahstenaw Vet Hospital I had to get the prescription sent from them. I know my dog was overdo to have her thyroid levels retested so I set up an appointment Monday (its Friday) at my new clinic to be rechecked. I explained all of this to Washtenaw Veterinary Hospital and asked if they could write me a temporary prescription as I ran out of medication (I thought I had another bottle to get me through, but I left it at my parents house). Their concern is, of course, if the dose is an accurate amount for the dog, which I told them would be taken care of Monday. They told me that since it has been over a year since they last saw me that they cannot send a prescription of any kind. Not even for a few days until I get my dog rechecked. SO now my new veterinary clinic will take their medical records to fill my dogs medication FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS. I guess apparently Washtenaw Vet Hospital would rather my dog go without medication in order to get my money from a visit. Do what you want, were all consumers in this free market, but I wouldnt waste my money and especially my time with these jokers. I felt that at least the Ann Arbor Animal Hospital cared about their patients, both 2 and 4 legged.

After researching extensively which veterinary practice to transfer my two dogs to after moving to the Ann Arbor area, I thought Washtenaw Veterinary Hospital would be a good fit. Unfortunately I wasnt given the opportunity to find out if their service was good or not. I scheduled a first appointment for both of my dogs for this morning, but the staff member that scheduled the appointment with me over the phone apparently didnt write it down anywhere, so they didnt have it in their system. Mistakes happen, and normally I am a very understanding person when it comes to things like this, but the way this mistake was handled was absurd. When I first arrived they didnt ask for my name; instead they just asked if I was a new patient and if Id had a chance to fill out their paperwork online. When I said no, they handed me the clipboard and had me start filling everything out (again, without asking my name or the names of my dogs). I sat down balancing two dogs, filling out the paperwork, all the while with other dogs in the waiting area--not the easiest task. When I was almost finished with everything they finally asked who I was, and when my appointment was scheduled. I had already been there for 10-15 minutes at this point. When I replied they immediately told me that I must be at the wrong veterinary clinic, or that I didnt call to make an appointment. Without an apology, without further looking into their scheduling system they immediately blamed me. Then asked if I wanted to reschedule for another day because they couldnt see my dogs today. Why would I want to reschedule an appointment for two dogs at a place that treats their new patients like they are morons, and whos to say the next time I came in they would actually have the appointment in their books? This place may have a great veterinarian, and the facility is beautiful--but if getting in the door is this much of a hassle the first go around it might not be worth it.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. I was new to the Ann Arbor area, and had just gotten a puppy from a wonderful breeder in my hometown. Soon after getting him, my husband and I brought him to the Washtenaw Veterinary Hospital because it looked really nice from the outside. At our first visit, the vet there proceeded to give our 16-week-old puppy, who was already fully vaccinated, the vaccienes he should have gotten at his 1-year check-up appointment. (The vet we now take him to was surprised that he didnt have a dangerous physical reaction after being given such an overdose of medication from the WVH Doctor.) Then, when he got a couple months older and had 2 retained baby teeth, the vet at WVH referred us to a K-9 dentist in the area. When I called the K-9 dentist, he said it would cost $650.00 to extract the baby teeth, and that he would need to catheterize and fully anesthetize (by IV) our puppy. He estimated that the procedure would take 4-6 hours. At that point I had a feeling that something was not right and decided to call the breeder we got our dog from to get some advice. She agreed, and told me to call the vet she uses back home. I ended up having to drive all the way over to the west side of the state to find a trustworthy vet. My breeders vet extracted the 2 baby teeth in about 15 minutes, using only gas to briefly put our puppy to sleep, and charged a total of $40 for the procedure. I did not get the feeling that the vets at WVH genuinely cared about my dog, or how he was being treated.

Love coming here. The staff is thorough and explains everything. Puppy loves seeing the doc! --1 year later-- Pup just went in for his big boy exam yesterday to get his updated rabies and annual physical exam. I really dont understand how people have had bad experiences here however after reading some of their comments I can understand why they dont understand based on their attitudes and dogmatic arguments... Regardless, this staff has been like a family through and through. Whenever weve had puppy concerns the staff has been so helpful in making sure the pup is going to be better. Both vets are very open with their own pet-lives and have shared insight from those experiences such as putting down their aging friends and also the joys of adopting a new dog. They really take time to connect with you and your pet; yesterday she was on the floor with him examining his heart rate. I see true love from them. Ive never had a contradiction with their advice and trust them completely. They still call after our appts to make sure he is doing fine from whatever procedure was performed. He still loves going to the vet which is so funny! When we walk by he tries to pull me to the building to go inside, even during after-hours when no one is there. Go here and youll find a family that will care for your baby like you deserve.

The doctors at this clinic are caring and knowledgeable. Both vets Ive worked with have been friendly, informative, and sensitive with my dog. Come to this clinic for expert service and care! But I might also offer a few suggestions. The woman at the check-out counter today was visibly struggling to figure out something on her computer for another client while I waited. When it was my turn, she had a very difficult time figuring out my receipts, forms, etc. On top of it all, she wrote the wrong next-appointment date on my reminder card. Luckily I had already put it in my calendar, but this could be confusing for some. Perhaps she needs a bit more training. Also, back in 2015 I brought my dog in for just a vaccination update. We didnt see the doctor, and a vet tech simply administered the shot and we were off within minutes. They didnt charge me for the visit (just the vaccination) which I felt was an appropriate, thoughtful way to deal with the situation. Today, I was charged $18.50 for "technician services" when my dog was out of the room for literally 1 minute for his vaccination. While its really not a big deal, perhaps some consistency in how you bill, and for what services, would be appreciated by all. Thanks! We will see you again soon!
