I moved to Minnesota last year from Iowa, and was looking for a good vet that was closer to me than the 4 1/2 hour drive to my Iowa City vet. Andover Animal hospital had mostly great reviews, and is only about 15 minutes from my house, so I thought Id try them out. Ive taken my cat there three times now. Needless to say, I will be looking for a new vet. Each visit I have been consistently overcharged, not made aware of certain charges, quoted one price and expected to pay another, and told: "thats interesting, well look into it," when I raised a concern. At least this last visit they did reduce the cost when they tried to charge me $28 higher than quoted for just one of the additional services. The staff is friendly, but mostly uninformed. They didnt take the time to read my cats medical records, or even a short 1-page summary that the previous vet had written up detailing my cats condition and history. The first two visits I saw a different doctor and tech, and had to again explain to both of them my cats condition (which is pretty memorable, by the way). It was clear neither of them had read the records or the summary, that - which I then double checked with them - they did have on file. It was only after the second visit that I requested my third appointment to be scheduled with the same doctor, so I wouldnt have to explain everything again. This last visit in which they attempted to overcharge me without showing me an invoice (which they provided upon my request), I didnt even get to speak with the doctor after the visit and procedure they performed. I asked my questions to the tech, who was unable to answer any of them, and then had to go ask the doctor for me. Each time Ive gone to Andover Animal Hospital, I have also gotten the impression that they were trying to hurry me out the door while I was still asking important questions about my cats ongoing care. This did not seem right to me either. I hope they can improve in these areas. As it stands, I would not recommend people to take their pets to Andover Animal Hospital.

My review is very overdue. I have several pets, and all have been seen at Andover Pet Hospital over the last couple of years. I trust them completely. And while I give them 5 stars for every visit, this review is especially for a visit I had to make on June 1st, when I I lost one of my beloved animals. Hed been with me since he was maybe 8 weeks old and I had to let him go just a month before hed have been 18 years old. For anyone who dearly loves an animal, you know that this kind of loss HURTS. The folks at Andover Pet Hospital were so good to me and to my boy. So caring and so kind, not to mention accommodating. He became very ill, very quickly, and they were able to help us out right away. Having to make the decision to let your pet go is the worst and they were so understanding and reassuring. Im sorry to say, with everything that happened I cant remember all the names of the people who were there with us, but I do know that each person we spoke with treated us nothing but compassion and kindness. It takes very special people to do what they do every day, and I will always be so grateful to them for helping us at the end. I was able to let my boy go knowing that theyd take good care of him, and they did. My pets are my family, and I get the sense that for them, they see them as your family too. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the staff. Thank you for doing all you could to help my Radley and thank you for helping him go. Kindness and compassion are so hard to come by these days, and even with the loss, I will always remember how good they were to me.

I was not able to bring my barn cat to our regular vet and he suggested I try to get in a clinic. She was displaying neurological symptoms. I was able to get in here. I told them she was a barn cat who currently had fleas. The vet (male) suggested a number of tests to run and gave me a price list. After the tests were done, the tech came back and told me the cat had fleas. Overheard her complaining to the receptionist that the cat had fleas and would have to disinfect the room. The vet came back and told me everything looked fine on the blood work. Suggested a treatment for dehydration and flea medicine. Then tech came back and said they didnt do the FeLV test right and were redoing it "at no cost to me". Seems like I should have been happy not to pay for a botched test. The tech did the water therapy and poked enough holes in the cats skin that most of the fluid leaked out in the next two hours. The vet came back to tell me the FeLV test was positive and gave me the distinct impression I should put her down. I declined, paid close to $400 and left. Got flea treatment from my regular vet for 1/4th the cost Andover wanted, isolated my cat, and a couple days later, started treatment for a cold my cat picked up somewhere. Symptoms started to come back a month later and took my cat to regular vet. He discussed how the fleas could have caused the infection she still had, gave meds and charged us $65. Cat is much improved two days later.

I am new to this area and this place was suggested to me. After taking 3 of my pets to this place I will never go back. The people answering the phones are rude when you call in to inquire about bringing your animal in because they arent getting well. I was told I wasnt to call in until later that day. When I asked why and that my dog is in need of care and to be seen they simply repeated that I wasnt suppose to call in till later that day. I brought my dog in with diarrhea and they ran all these test, examined him after telling he he should be muzzled (when all my dog did was whimper, whine, howl and try to get their attention so he could be loved. He was scared! The vet tech even asked me to give him his oral medication. My dog has never been treated so coldly by a vet clinic ever! Hes known for being the sweetheart of the vet clinic). When he was examined the vet was quick to say he has a tumor and without x-rays said he has one on his lungs and then started talking to me about putting him down. I got a second opinion from another vet office and it was a totally different diagnosis. They were even upset at the fact this vet clinic only gave my dog 5 days worth of medicine instead of 14. Its like they were out to get more money out of me. Very disgraceful way to conduct business! I will never be back! If you love your animals, please go somewhere else!!!!

We have a litter of 12 puppies that I had scheduled to get their shots at about 7 weeks old, as my normal vet was booked. A couple of days before I was supposed to bring them in for shots, a few of the puppies had diarrhea and I was considered about them getting too dehydrated and having worms. Not wanting to wait a week to get the puppies in, I called them the following morning as soon as they were open. Even though they didnt have any available appointments, they squeezed our 12 babies in as an urgent care visit. We got tested, checked out, and treated within that time. They also outlined the prices and services very clearly before completing treatment, so there were no surprises on the bill - which was a very fair price. I am so grateful for their services, kindness and willingness to help and get me in! I also appreciate their patience with a litter of 12 puppies! I will definitely be bringing my two full grown German Shepherds here for their future needs.
