I have been taking my dog to this "hospital" for about 2 years. From the attitude of the women at the reception desk, to the over-all lack of concern for my animal, I have chosen to switch vets. I can say that it is my fault for just dealing with them for so long and should have realized sooner that they are just another business concerned with making money over the comfort and care of your animal. My dog was diagnosed with cancer recently and they couldnt have made the experience any more hard on my dog and myself if they actually tried. First off, doctor Cameron didnt even know what type of dog he was talking about when he called me at 7pm to tell me my dog had cancer. Secondly, he had no desire to answer any of my questions about my dog and when he would give me a response it was crass, full of attitude, and then spoke to me as if I was a child. Lastly, he had no sympathy whatsoever and basically just talked prices. Im not saying that he isnt a qualified doctor but in his extreme old age I feel like he just looks at his patients as dollar signs instead of the community that is helping keep his business alive. Some of women at the counter could also seriously use an attitude adjustment as well. On the other hand there are people there who actually care about your pet and love animals more than money. I have now switched to Oradell Animal Hospital

We recently lost our 6-year dog under the care of Drs. Miller and Houston at Cameron Animal Hospital, and so in no way can recommend them. We took our healthy dog in for teeth cleaning, dropping her off at 7:30am two weeks ago. When we called at 2pm, she hadnt even been tended to yet and the procedure didnt start until 4:30. When we picked her up at 6:30, she was a broken dog, trembling and freaked out, with vomit all over her. We were told she would be "back to normal" the next day. But her health deteriorated rapidly, and despite repeated additional visits and eventual emergency care, by Thursday she was jaundiced, fevered, with failed liver and she eventually succumbed to a heart attack that afternoon. We are devastated by the loss of our furry family member, and lament that her last healthy day was spent hungry, caged and alone. During her last 24hours, she did receive exceptional care from Drs. Smith and Straus at Animal Emergency and Referral on Bloomfield Ave, they ran repeated tests for trying to find the cure (and cause), but came up with nothing. We can only suspect (we will never know for sure), that there death was caused by some reaction to or mis-application of the anesthesia that killed her. Regardless, Dr. Smith sent a card and some flower seeds expressing her condolences. Cameron Animal Hospital sent us a bill for $500.

I would NEVER take my dog there again. I recently rescued a dog from horrific living conditions. I was recommended to this place. I had an appointment at 1020am. 1020? I never heard of an appointment time like that, anyway I arrived at 1010am and waited an HOUR to be seen. I was ready to walk out 45 minutes in. Between the horrible smell in there to my dog shaking I was done. FINALLY I get called into the room. And what a SHI*SHOW that was. The doctor comes in Dr. Miller and after waiting an hour excuses herself to answer her cell phone. Kept waiting again I was ready to walk out. I couldnt believe what I was seeing. Then she comes back and does a once over on the dog. Ive never had a female dog before. And apparently she was in the beginning stages of heat. I left there with more questions than I came in with and NOTHING was answered. THEN (mind you Ive had many dogs before) they proceed to tally up my bill and want payment RIGHT there in the room. I felt like it was a drug transaction. I have NEVER paid my bill in the room like that. Then they told me they need a stool sample. Ok. Gave me the container for it. I get the sample. I bring it in today and they want 51 dollars from me. I was outraged. What did I pay for in the visit? 129 dollars for a look over and a heart worm test. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS THERE.

It has been more than 10 years since I moved away from Montclair to Chicago but I still greatly miss the quality and loving care my many pets received during the 20 or so years that they were patients there, The reason I am writing this is because Im totally frustrated with the quality and cost of vet care in the Chicago suburbs. I recently took our German Shepherd puppy to our vet for the last in a series of her vaccinations. They did give her a heart worm test and aspirated a cyst to make sure it was benign. That was almost $700. When I asked how much it would cost to spay her, I was told it would be at least $1,600. And, although Ive taken five cats and three dogs over the years, they have always demanded full payment up front before any procedures are done. The rates other vets charge are comparable. This makes it almost prohibitively expensive to rescue and own pets. Dr. Cameron used to give us "bulk discounts because we had three cats and a dog. His rates always seemed reasonable -- and in some cases a little low. One of my favorite memories was of Dr. Cameron walking around with a tiny kitten in his shirt pocket, hoping someone would adopt to. We, ourselves, adopted three of our cats there. Dont know if he is still practicing but I will always remember him and his staff fondly.

I took all of my three cats to Cameron Animal Hospital for many years. I had adopted two of my cats from them. Dr. Cameron is elderly now, but is a lover of animals, accepting cats and dogs, no questions asked, that have been abandoned and abused. I recall a few kittens brought in that had had their paws burned with a cigarette lighter. He cares deeply about these animals, and saving their lives. My issues began when I hired one of his vet techs to take care of my cats while we went on vacation. Due to unforseen circumstances we arrived home a day early to find the litterboxes overflowing with poop, and the cats had no water. When I confronted the woman she flew into a rage blaming us for not informing her that we were returning early. I then received a call from another employee at Cameron Animal Hospital who yelled at me and told me that I had upset the other woman so much that she had had a car accident. As it turned out the young woman was safe and unharmed, as it was a minor fender bender. I felt threatened and afraid to return to Dr. Camerons office and so sought out another vet, never returning. I must say I regret doing this since the vets working in Cameron animal hospital are the very best, and their prices are lower than any vet in the area.

Dont fall for the all of the good reviews for this place! I wouldnt be surprised if their employees wrote most of them! I stopped using this vet over a year and a half ago because when my dog was seriously ill (threw up 3 times in one morning and very lethargic), and I called to schedule an emergency visit..they said it would have to wait until the next day because they were booked solid. It was when I said I would just go to one of the emergency clinics because I didnt feel comfortable waiting that long...and miraculously a spot opened up immediately. For all I knew my dog could have been dying, and they could care less about seeing what was wrong until I threatened to take my business somewhere else! From that day on I never went to them again. (sidenote: I started going to Secaucus Animal Hospital from that day on. It was a bit further of a drive...but more than worth it! The staff there is exceptional, in particular Dr. Hatch. Now that is someone who really cares for the well being of your pet!)
