Ok, I got a long list of complaints about this vet. Every experience Ive had with this vet was bad, I tried to give them another shot a couple times, but I am definitely not going back to them! We brought our German Shepherd pup in because he had worms, after 3 treatments he still had worms. We got fed up with it, because you pay for the vet visit and the medicines, so we decided to order some basic worm-treatment online. Within a week the worms were gone.. We brought our cat in because she was peeing on things after we got a second cat. We just wanted to make sure it wasnt an urinal infection, we figured it was just behavioral. We explained to the vet multiple times that our cat is a very sensitive kitty and that it was most likely behavioral. They said they would do a urine-sample and see if there were crystals in the blood, if not then it was most likely behavioral. Well, the test came out negative for the crystals, but, they thought it was fine to do another bunch of tests and x-rays and give her a lot of medicines.... For nothing. They shouldve diagnosed there was nothing wrong with her, instead of doing unnecessary tests and giving her treatment for nothing. We brought our second cat in for the standard "adoption check-up" you have to do when you adopt a cat. They actually sedated her to do the check-up. They said she was thrashing a lot. I clip her nails every two weeks, she thrashes a lot, but she is easily held down. I cant see why they would sedate her. Youd expect that they would be able to handle something like that. My friend had her rat cremated at this vet. After three weeks of not hearing anything, we called. They said they hadnt received anything yet. A week later we called again. In total 6 weeks later we called again, they ashes were finally in... They had forgotten to call us, they had gotten the ashes in 2 weeks earlier. They FORGOT to call. I was/am appalled by how they work. The vet who is "specialized" in exotic animals, like rats has no idea what is best for rats. Rats are supposed to be kept with at least 2 rats or more, but the vet himself says its ok to keep just one... He clearly has no idea how to keep rats.. Time for a new vet. I will definitely not ever go back there again.

I received by far the worst vet care for my elderly bunny. Three months ago I noticed that my rabbit Jamie had grown a bump on his cheek practically overnight. I rushed Jamie to Dr. Burgess at Southwest Animal Hospital. He examined Jamie and told me not to worry: it was an abscess tooth. He remarked that it should be a simple surgery and Jamie would be back to normal soon. Jamie received the surgery and after he was stitched back up I received a phone call. The bump was cancer. Dr. Burgess did not have a clear explanation for why he assumed it was an abscessed tooth. He also did not call me when he learned it was cancer. He took out the lump and when I came to pick Jamie up half of his face was shaved, sewn up with thick stitches, and bleeding. Had I known it was cancer I would never have gone through with the surgery. For days he could hardly move. He continued to get worse and I called the doctor. Apparently they forgot to tell me about the ongoing medication that I was supposed to administer every 12 hours. Days went by and he continued to get worse. I talked to the doctor and he said “well Jamie seemed like a healthy young bunny- I don’t see why he is getting sick.” When I said Jamie was 10 years old he was surprised. Clearly the doctor didn’t read his background before convincing me that the surgery should go ok. I dropped him back off at the vet. 6 hours later I came back and they had removed the stitches. The receptionist looked shocked when I said I had brought him in for a checkup. She assumed they were supposed to remove the sutures. When I explained that they never told me he needed them removed, she could not give me an explanation. I had assumed since no one explained the sutures needed to be taken out, that they would simply breakdown. Two months later the tumor came back worse than ever. His skin had not even completely healed when the tumor was bigger than before. When I had to put him down his fur still had not grown back and his eye near the tumor had never recovered. I was never offered an apology or reimbursement. Jamies last three months were the most painful of his life and the vet turned a deaf ear. I have never had worst service in my life.

Dr. Burgess is the best vet EVER! When Crixus, my ferret, started having symptoms he went downhill horribly fast. I was terrified of taking him to the ferret vet my daughter used and found Dr. Burgess instead. From the first visit, we loved this vet. Crixus had lost his fur over half his body. On the other half, his hair was sparse and he had scratched sores into his skin. He had lost 8 oz (a lot for a ferret). Dr. B examined him, handling him expertly and gently - and gave us a diagnosis of adrenal tumor along with tons of *detailed* information about the disease, treatment options, and likely outcomes. He even drew pictures of the surgery. Once Crixus was in surgery, a tiny (pancreatic) insulinoma was found and removed. The bad adrenal gland as well. And sadly, there were lymph nodes removed and found to be cancerous. Again we received treatment options with *complete* details. Dr. B and the vet tech, Bill, who has done most of Crixus chemo treatments, show the utmost care and concern for our baby! And Crixus *loves* them! First thing he does when they pick him up is to give them kisses! He still has more chemo ahead, but hes growing his fur back fast, gained the lost weight back right away, and plays again like he feels great! These folks saved my babys life. There is no doubt that hed have died by now without their care. Ill never have allow another vet to see my babies. I cant say enough good things about Dr. B...and Bill, and the rest of the folks at Southwest Animal Hospital.

My rabbit took a spill off the balcony and broke her rear leg. I brought her to an emergency clinic, as it was after hours on Sunday when we found her. The clinic did Xrays and wanted to amputate right away, despite the rabbit being under no stress from the break. After making sure she was in no pain and the decision could wait until the morning, we took her to another vet who also recommended amputation. She was still in no pain and could wait before we made the decision, so we decided to see a specialist - Dr. Burgess. He did a thorough exam and explained our options, none of which involved amputation. 20 years of dealing with bunnies kept our rabbit from having an unnecessary surgery. Shes been a happy, normal four legged bunny for over a year now. Our rabbits adore Dr. Burgess, and he obviously loves our rabbits like his own. They are very at ease in his presence, and look forward to kisses on their bunny head whenever we go for check ups.

We adopted a hedgehog off craigslist, more like rescued her since she was in a house filled with fleas! After I brought the hedgie home and found out she had fleas too, I rushed her to this vet. It was 3:30pm and the receptionist said didnt have any appointments left that day, but they offered a drop off, where they would keep her and see her first thing in the morning. I reluctantly agreed since I have dogs at home and didnt want to make the problem worse. But when the vet found out what the problem was, he found time between appointments and checked her out. Then got flea meds not only for hedgie but for my dogs just in case since I had brought her in the house before I found out they were on her. I would highly recommend this vet and the ladies that work there!!
