I took my 8 year old newfoundland into Sunnyside Veterinary Hospital today. This was his second visit to this office, and today we saw Dr. Haveman. The visit was everything anybody could possibly ask for in a competent practitioner. I am a dentist and own my own small practice, so I have a background in both health care and business. There is a growing trend in health care towards corporate run offices which I feel dont always have the patients best interest in mind because the Dr.s are under pressure from the corporate office to "produce" high financial numbers. I read a review here that thought that the prices were high, but I disagree. I feel that the costs were in the ballpark of other offices, but that I also wasnt asked to have a lot of unnecessary tests given to my dog that other offices have pushed in the past. These tests can add up to a large bill. Other offices have wanted to put my dog under general anesthesia to take x-rays of the dogs hips from time to time, to see if they ever begin to degenerate. My dog has never had hip issues, and I understand with a large dog that this is a possibility, but taking x-rays will do nothing to prevent the hips from beginning to degenerate. I never asked the office to try to keep costs down. However, they presented me with different options of medications for flea and heartworm treatments and calculated all of the costs of the different medications for me. They also presented the option of ordering the medications directly from a supplier instead of from their office in order to save me from paying their markup cost. I respected the fact that they presented this option without my asking, but ended up purchasing the medications from them because I felt the markup was very minimal. Their office was clean and the Dr. was very knowledgeable. I would recommend this office to anyone that is looking for a vet in the area. Dont fall for the trap of offices that are big chains or that focus on marketing to bring in new clients. This is an office that is established and are very competent at what they do.

Dr. Haveman and his staff provide top notch care and service. The environment is comfortable. The office is clean. No crazy smells. All the office animals were well behaved. Although I would agree the prices arent the cheapest...you get what you pay for. SVH isnt the most expensive either. But, at SVH, it is worth the cost. Accommodating. Experienced. And I didnt feel like anything I was told was bogus. We priced the medicines online, and they were comparable to the office rates. I cant say enough good things about SVH and Dr. Haveman. 5 star care and service. On a separate note, we recommended SVH to a family memeber. Their dog had an allergy and it was out of control....for years. The dog had been taken to multiple vets to find the issue. Changed food. Changed beds. Cleaned everything. Even went to a vet that said they specialized in skin allergies. After multiple visits, medications....nothing worked. Until they went to see Dr. Haveman. His diagnosis and treatment was the cure. In a market that extorts peoples emotional attachment to their animals for money, its nice to have a doctor and staff at an animal hospital you can trust.

My son has a Bearded Dragon that started having seizures just yesterday. I did tons of research online and decided to take him to a Vet. We are new to the area, so I was a little hesitant about where to go. After reading the reviews online, I called the Sunnyside Veterinary Hospital and they saw our Beardie immediately... Literally, within 20 minutes. After talking to the Vet, we were then directed to talk to a staff member by the name of Kelsey. She was EXTREMELY knowledgeable with reptiles (stating she personally has 15 reptiles) and was able to answer every question I had about our Beardie. All the other staff members were very friendly and concerned as well. This is definitely one place I would take my animals to again and again. Thank you for the kind, knowledgeable, and prompt treatment!

Not recommended. "Happy Valley Vet" is just down the road, and much better (so far, Ive only been there once). The vets at Sunnyside are very pushy and have questionable advice. Specifically, one of my cats has had UI tract infections and so he has prescription food. These guys didnt want to fill it, they wanted him to go off it (which weve done before and he promptly developed another blockage which required surgery to save his life), and maybe would do a new prescription after a new evaluation (and thereby charging us money for that service). This same cat also happened to need a haircut, and although we negotiated around it, apparently their usual protocol is to completely anesthetise the cat before grooming. Seriously, what is up with that...?

Dr. Hill is very caring, thorough and knowledgable. My almost 12 year old black lab, Bode, was recently diagnosed to be in the early stages of kidney failure. Dr. Hill was gracious enough to see Bode for a second opinion. I was unable to bring him in due to my work schedule. My parents, who brought Bode in for me, had only positive things to say about their experience in the office. As you can imagine it was hard for me not to be there and Dr. Hill has been very good about communicating with me under these unusual circumstances. Thank you Sunnyside Veterinary Hospital for taking great care of my pup while I wasnt present. We will be back and hopefully I can be there next time.

I had a major crisis when I found out my hamster had a tooth growing out of her cheek. A lot of vets do not deal with hamsters and so I had a difficult time finding one who would. I also had a choice between putting her down or not as surgery wouldve cost ten times as much as she was worth. Luckily the vets here were able to cut her tooth at a small $15 fee. I was incredibly grateful. They were very effective and fast I couldnt have asked for better service. I loved how they had animals wandering the halls it felt very open and respectable. Very much my idea of the ideal vet clinic.

Ive been bringing my dogs here since I was 6 years old. Im now 32, on my 3rd dog, and still love the service I get at sunnyside. When I was 10 and my dog at the time ate some poison mushrooms, my dad made the mistake of taking her to a different vet. She didnt make it. When I later described what happened to the doctors at sunnyside, they explained to me exactly what the other dr. did wrong, and how he could have saved her. It was a hard way to learn that lesson, but I will never trust anyone else with my pups after that.

Very comfortable environment, kind of old school. I love the huge yard to walk the dog before our appointment. Staff is very informative and helpful, they really helped me with all the options i was looking at for my dog. The prices are not the cheapest (why i chose 4 instead of 5 stars), but i think the care is worth the price.
