I moved to Salem recently and I needed to find a vet for my dog. First she had an ear infection and, knowing no one but wanting to find a well-respected vet, I saw the several good reviews here for Oak Hills. I took my dog in and what would normally have cost $65-$100 at her previous vet was $300 at Oak Hills. There was nothing unusual about this ear infection. A few days later, my dog broke a tooth and was in great pain. Knowing she needed to be seen immediately, I returned to Oak Hills where I was told I had to take her to a dental specialist first. I did so and when I was told the only treatment option was extraction for that tooth and one other and that it would cost $1200 I returned to Oak Hills to see what they would charge. Ha! $1000-$1200!!! Fortunately, I am not so far away from her previous vet that it would not be worth it to make the trip back there for the surgery. I did so and it was SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive ($500). In short, the techs at Oak Hills are great and I felt the vets were very competent and thorough. Unfortunately, in this economy, their services are prohibitively expensive. I will continue my search for quality veterinary care at a reasonable cost.

I moved into West Salem in 2000. I checked on nearby veterinary clinics and was truly impressed with the tour I was given at Oak Hills Veterinary Clinic. At the time I had an 8 year old yorkie (Phoebe) that I adopted from the humane society and had become extremely attached to her. Her health was very important to me and the staff was extremely patient and understanding answering my many questions. Phoebe had been a patient of Dr. Smith and Dr. Hillmer since. She had numerous medical problems from severe allergies to cancerous tumors over the years. Oak Hills Vet Clinic has gone above and beyond in their care for her each and every time. Thanks to them, she lived a very long time. Phoebe passed in January 2009 (almost 17 years). I have two other yorkies who are and will remain patients at Oak Hills Vet Clinic. I can honestly and sincerely say I do trust the lives of my pets to them.

I have not a single bad thing to say about the care we received here, other than the cost. The vets and staff were wonderful and the care was great, but the cost of everything here is 2-3x that of every other clinic in town. I understand that you tend to pay more for top quality, but that much more is just cost prohibitive for us. We moved out of West Salem a couple years ago and unfortunately are going to switch vets now due to cost factors. We will miss them. If you dont mind or can afford paying top dollar for vet care, I do recommend them.

No complaints about the staff or treatment, but definitely a vet for those making big salaries! They are very detailed and professional, and keep a clean and cozy office, but we had no choice but to switch vets due to getting much lower quotes elsewhere. If you do your homework and compare you might be surprised...

Theyre great people. Took good care of my rat and take good care of my guinea pig. Super expensive though. $60 just for a small animal check up. I would like a less expensive vet but not many care for small animals.

Even though this place is really spendy the people that work there definitely make up for it with their kindness.
