I am very weary of vet clinics, I know that a lot of the doctors out there just gauge you and care little none about your loved one, some appear not even to like animals; I have been to specialized vets for "exotic" beings and regular vets for wellness exams and such; I have been to urgent care facilities and specialized surgical ones and I must say out of all the vets that have seen my beloveds I trust Rose City Vet Hospital over any of them. My son Benny, a lovable Shinnese with a great sense for judging peoples charector puked up a single worm one day. Frightened for his health my husband I went on the internet and classified the worm as a round worm. A common worm that if untreated could be a deadly threat to our babys life. Immediatly we called the closest vet in the Pearl where we lived since we do not own a car. They were going to charge us over $100 before he was even going to get a lick of medicine in him. So we decided to contact his previous owners vet of choice, though out of the neighborhood only a few minutes away on bus. We called Rose City Vet and explained what the worm looked like and what we believed it was, the secretary put us on hold for a minute or two and then came back with a complete estimate of the costs, under 60 dollars and got us an appointment that day. We arrived an hour early for our appointment not certain exactly how to get there, Benny thirsty from exictment was given fresh water and compliments by the women up front. The doctor then saw us an hour early. The techinician was sincerly caring and Benny liked her very much, even after being anal probed. Immediatly after she did her business with him, Dr. Burger came in. Thouroughly checked him in his wellness exam and explained what the worms are and what not. Benny was at ease with her probing his flat, delicate face, and wagged his tail at attention she directed towards him. We got our medicine for him and then took him home. My husband went online to research exactly what this medicine is and found it to be a safe counteract to the worms often used as a preventative as well as a treatment. Rose City Vet charged us four dollars more than what if would of cost us to buy online, it actually was cheaper because of the cost of shipping. We then got a personal letter in the mail from the Dr. From all my experiences at different types of vet clinics Dr. Burger and the techinicians and the "business" itself are not out to take from you, there is a sincere care and love for animals that you cannot find at other practices. Rose City Vet offers payments plans for patients whos cost exceed 300 dollars, patients have online access to their records. We were seen same day, we had no wait time even though we arrived an hour early, and were given just prices for the services recieved. And most importantly Benny is worm free and comfortable there. I cannot speak for the other doctors, but I trust Dr. Burger.

My cat Leo died 3 days ago from heart failure. I first noticed that Leo wasnt breathing properly around Oct.24. 2016. I took him to rose city veterinary hospital. The doctor had to withdraw fluids from his lung and gave him the prescription medicine for his heart. Also I had go back the next day to picked up his hyperthyroid medicine . It cost to me $682 total. On Nov. 20 2016 Leo stopped eating and drinking, I called rose city veterinary hospital and reported his condition to a doctor. He said, if his condition didnt improve within a couple of days, he needed to see him again. On Nov.22 Leo was still not eating and drinking. I took him back to the rose city veterinary and a vet examined Leo by checking his temperature and listening to his heart. The vet said Leo had a fever but his heart sounded good. And also the vet said that he looked like he wasnt in any pain and we should not euthanize him unless I wanted to. The vet prescribed an antibiotic for his fever and refilled his heart medicine and 4 cans of prescribed food. It costed me $145. The next day Leo didnt get better. in fact, he looked worse then the day before. So I called the rose city veterinary and the receptionist took note and said the vet will give me a call. Around 2 hours after I made a called the vet, Leo was doing weird things like making weird sounds, moving paws around and having a hard time to breathing. I called rose city again and Sarah , who I think is the technician assistant , answered the phone and I explained the situation. She said the doctor is at lunch until 1;20pm, rudely. I said I think my cat is dying and she said, bring him in. I hurried Leo to Rose City and Sarah was at the front desk but she didnt even look at me. Another girl at the front took Leo inside and soon I met with the doctor and she told me that Leo passed away. Im confused about Leos sudden death. I took him to the vet just the day before and I only gave him the 1 ml of antibiotics and didnt touch the heart medicine. If I had taken Leo to a different vet, perhaps he would still be alive. It keeps haunting me.

We wanted to get a new years worth of heartguard for our dog, and apparently Oregon law requires that a vet see a dog once a year to prescribe it. After being assured over the phone that we would pay $47 for an exam and, in addition, the cost of the heartguard, we brought her in. Further inquiries about price before the exam yielded no more information. For a mere $160, we got the exam, which the dog didnt need because shes fine -- it didnt include anything that would have indicated whether she had heartworms -- and six months of heartguard. Although their vets are friendly and the quality of medicine practiced seems high, this clinic is too profit-oriented for us to continue visiting. When we go to the vet we want to get advice about the problem. We dont want to be given numerous unnecessary tests and services and then be charged for them. It would also be nice to be able to get a ballpark range for price before we go. Its unpleasant to be charged $100 more than anticipated for a small service. Well be looking for a less flashy clinic, and preferably one where the vets arent paid on commission.

I have been using Rose City Vet for about 3.5 years. I came to them when I moved to the area. My pet then had been having urinary problems with not much success. Dr. Berger saw her the first time and from the lab results and exam knew something larger was going on. The short of it was Katy was dying of a bladder tumor. Caught too late I lost her. The clinic and Dr. Berger handled the death with such care and professionalism. They care now for my new baby Gracie. I find everyone at the clinic caring, loving and professional. I love Dr. Berger and prefer to see her when schedules permit. Not that there is anything wrong about the other Drs., I just prefer her care. The only thing I would suggest is to get any prescriptions needed written out but filled at a retail pharmacy. Rose City seems to be very high on the cost of prescriptions filled there. Other than that I would not go anyplace else for my pets care.
