I highly recommend Dr. Michele Pietrzak and her staff. My experience occurred in April 2015. Met Vet West was not my usual vet, but my male cat, Bandit, was urinating outside of his box over the weekend. Scheduling an appointment: Since I thought Bandit just had a routine UTI, I did not use emergency services and I went online to schedule an appointment, and I was called back within 20 minutes. The staff was very friendly on the phone and got me scheduled for the very next day. First Appointment: The next day when I went for my appointment, everyone was very nice, and the establishment was very clean. We did not have to wait long to see the doctor. Right off the bat, I was very impressed with Dr. Pietrzak’s bed side manner. She treated Bandit as if he were her own. My cat had some chronic health conditions, and Dr. Pietrzak had taken the time to contact our vet for medical records before we got there. She seemed to already know all about Bandit even though it was our first time there. She even went out of her way to find my cat’s special order medication locally, so that I didn’t have to drive an hour to pick it up. On the way to vet’s office, my cat urinated in his carrier, so he didn’t have any urine for a sample. No problem. They let Bandit stay until he could provide a sample. (No extra charge. My other vet would have charged a fee.) Follow Up: Bandit was acting a little out of the ordinary, so I called the vet as soon as they opened the next day. They were very polite and confirmed that Bandit’s culture showed signs of a UTI, and that he should start medication ASAP. Dr. Pietrzak took the time to speak to me herself regarding the medication and other signs to look for, because male cats have high risk of acute kidney disease which can stem very easily from a UTI. Unfortunately, I had to work and left Bandit alone that day. He had UTI’s before so I wasn’t overly concerned. I arrived home from work to find Bandit very ill. (Yes, I’m a big jerk for leaving him. I had no idea his health was about to spiral downward so quickly.) I called the vet and they said bring him right in. When I arrived at the vet, I did not have to wait despite a full waiting room. They immediately took Bandit back for an evaluation. Sadly, Bandit’s condition was fatal (He was suffering from Acute Kidney Disease as well as his other chronic health conditions. Acute kidney disease is fatal within 24 hours. Please take UTI’s in cats seriously!! I had no idea!!) Dr. Pietrzak and her staff were amazing during this difficult time. They showed amazing professionalism and compassion. Even days after, they called us to check up, mailed sympathy cards, and mailed materials regarding loss of pet and how to help surviving animals deal with grief. When it was time to pick up Bandit’s ashes, again they showed nothing but compassion and professionalism. Price: The price was very reasonable and not very different from our current vet. We were not charged an emergency fee, because we were able to make an appointment. We weren’t charged at all for our follow up visit. We only had to pay for whatever options we picked for his remains. Although, my visit with Met Vet was sad and tragic, I highly recommend this office, and I would return with future pets. Dr. Pietrzak and her staff were very knowledgeable, professional, and compassionate. My cat couldn’t have been in better hands during his last hours.

I am sorry to say that nice does not make up for knowledgeable. I wasted 5 weeks of crucial healing time for Bella, my 1 year old Pomeranian mix: almost costing her her life in the end. I brought her to Met Vet in Robinson in early August 2011 after she broke her front legs. Initially, I spent about $500 for the first ER vist. That was fine as Bella’s legs were stablized and she was medicinally made comfortable. Services beyond that is what has me so extremly upset. The first visit, I was told that a surgeon could put pins in her legs, but beause she was so little she had a much better chance of healing compared to a big dog in the same situation. I later found out that information was completely wrong. Two weeks later for a visual check up, I was told by a different doctor that one of Bella’s legs were healing. At this point I was still concerned, but happy to know that one of her legs were healing and had hope for the other one. Later in the week, I expressed concern that we were wasting valuable healing time by doing nothing for the leg that wasn’t healing. I was told by a very young receptionist “If you broke your front legs, you would be in pain too.” Finally, 4 weeks from the intial vist, X-Rays showed that neither of her legs had healed. I was told that a surgeon could be scheduled to put pins in Bella’s legs. I asked for a recomendatio to PVSEC. At PVSEC, I was told that “Anyone who would put pins in a break like this should be sued for malpractice” and that “A little dog like this has about 20% chance of healing with casts alone, as opposed to a larger dog. In the end, Bella ended up with plates screwed into her legs and a total of 4 ½ months of being in casts. The initial 5 weeks of wasted time proved troublesome for surgery and healing time, not to mention the osteoperosis she developed in her wrists from them being casted so long. Two doctors at two locations I spoke with either said they shoud be sued for the advice or laughed and said “well you went to Met Vet-that explains it.” If you have an emergency and that is the ONLY place to go, I would recommend another opinion once you leave. Especially if your intuition is telling you something is just not quite right.

My cat had been in a fight with the neighbors cat a few day pervious. Late at night I realized he was very out of sorts and breathing incredibly fast. I call my vet. The answering service recommended I take him to Metropolitan Veterinary Center South/West, as my vet would be unable to see him until the next day. I called their facility. They made him an appointment at 8 am. I should have waited till 9 am and spoke to my veterinarian personally! We arrived at 8 am and were taken in promptly. The veterinarian came in to examine him a and picked him up by his sore front leg and his tail. My cat hissed at her. I told her he was out of sorts and had bit me when I tried to examine his leg. I explained he did not brake the skin! With that she took him in the back for “a more thorough exam.” With in a minutes she came back in with a stack of papers and said it was “the state law” that she euthanize my cat for rabies! It was clearly stated on the paper work I filled out that my cat had received his rabies shot. I was stunned! She repeatedly told me it was for the “safety of the community”.” I repeatedly told her he had his rabies shots! An argument insured. She would not give me back my cat, which was now held in the back room! Eventually she said she would quarantine him there for 10days, but “If he shows any sings of aggression in that 10 days she would put him down". I was beside my self! I left the room went out front and paid the $85. Then begin telling anyone who would listen about my experience. They then hurriedly brought my cat out by the scruff of his neck . I took him and drove off quickly wondering if they would call the authorities as “The law was on her side.” I took my cat to his regular vet later that day. His leg was shaved, his wound cleaned and antibiotic given. None of which Metropolitan Veterinary Center did for their $85. Time has passed now and my cat is completely recovered and more importantly alive!
