If I could give 0 stars; I would. If Vanderbilt is considered one of the best hospitals, then I dont want to see the worst. I went in because I had been having some groin pain. Doing a little research, sounded like a hernia. Pain radiates from the right side of my groin to my right testicle (sorry for the details, just stating so you could imagine the type of pain I have). Im new to the area, so, I dont have a PCP or anything. They do a half-assed physical exam, and an ultrasound on my right testicle. Dont find anything, so they diagnosed me with "testicular pain". They said If i had anymore pain, to come back. But find a doctor in the mean time. I find a doctor. He says, I need to see a specialist. Fine, next one is booked out like 3 weeks. Awesome. So, in the 3 weeks waiting for the specialist, the pain progressively gets worse, and I go back. Just like they told me to do if the pain gets worse. They check me in, another half-assed physical, and another ultrasound on my testicle. I told them, "the pain radiates around my entire groin. It just hurts in my testicle. I dont think my testicle is the cause of my pain. I think it could be an inguinal hernia. Is there another test we can do?" "An ultrasound wouldnt really find a hernia if that was the case. The only test we can do would be too risky with the radiation. Go see a doctor." I ended up having to cancel my specialist appointment because of family issues, and I had to go out of town. I make another appointment with the specialist. 2 more weeks. Again, the pain gets too unbearable and is starting to really freak me out. I go back. Me trying to give them the benefit of the doubt like, "Hey, this guy has been in 3 times now... maybe this is something a little more serious than we think." I get in, they took blood, which they never did the other 2 times, and then I waited for 7 hours. If sitting there for 7 hours wasnt bad enough, they left the IV in my arm the entire time. They bring me back, quick exam, and boom. Cant find anything, "Go see a doctor". WHAT THE @#$& ARE YOU?! A guy, DRESSED LIKE A DOCTOR?! The right side of my groin is swollen. It hurts to laugh and cough, cant sit for too long without pain, sometimes my testicle will get pulled up into my body, irregular bowel movements, and urinating shouldnt be this hard. Im 26... Ive got a while until that sort of problem arises. Im not a doctor, but if something hurts, swells, and effects everyday living; something isnt right.

My child was brought to the childrens hospital by ambulance for what we thought was an appendicitis. After sitting for hours in the ER, an ultrasound was completed and he was admitted for further evaluation. They couldnt see his appendix, so they werent sure what was going on. I couldnt tell you how many different doctors and nurses came into his room just to poke on him and ask him the same questions. At one point, there were about 10 doctors (most of them students) and the head doctor actually said they didnt know what was going on and they wouldnt be able to figure it out, but they were fine with sending him home. They made no effort to find out what the problem was, even though his blood work showed elevated white count and platelets and the ultrasound showed swollen lymph nodes, & he had a low grade fever. We were finally able to get him in with a pediatric GI and she found the problem after conducting exploratory surgery a month later - which the other doctor REFUSED to do. Fast forward to today when I call them to pay them & I ask if they offer a discount for patients that are paying in full......and they do not! Most hospitals do, if you ask them. The ambulance service that brought my child in gave us a 20% discount for paying in full, but Vanderbilt--the Worlds Greatest Hospital--cant do that? Aside from the GI doctor that we were able to see (Dr. Thomsen) and my own knee surgeon (Dr. Cox), this hospital is a complete JOKE! Their treatment is horrible, especially when dealing with the childrens hospital and theyre not considerate at all of their patients financial needs. For all the money these doctors get paid to treat their patients like dirt, and yet none of it can be discounted. Next time, Ill let them take payments and wait for their money!

Horrible hospital!! We were on vaccation when my father in law was transported 1hr and 40 minutes via ambulance to this facility from Livingston Regional for possible stroke. He has a history of both heart attack /stroke and all the signs and symptoms where present however this time worse because he was not speaking, confused, and unable to voice his concerns. After 10.5 hours all that had been accomplished was and repeat CT Scan and eventually an MRI after asking several times when he was going to have it completed. We were told that the neurologist didnt feel it was an emergency and they would get to him when they could fit him in. Then we were told that someone would read it and if they felt it was significant would contact "the big guy" but he may be out to dinner and it may be awhile before he could get to it or his email. My father-in-law had not had anything to eat or drink in over 16hrs and our family had to ask for IV drip so he could stay hydrated. The nursing staff had terrible attitudes when asked a question, if you could even find them. A women was actively having a seizure in the hallway on a hospital bed and as I was looking for our nurse I told another staff member and it was completely shrugged off as she stated "Oh yeah someone will get to her in a bit". I am an OR nurse myself and I have never seen such horrible patient care, bed side manner, or lack of interest in patients. Had we of known the area better or read the other horrible reviews on this facility we would of taken him somewhere else where patient care is a priority and staff has compassion for what they do.

Vanderbilt is known for being a great hospital with some of the best doctors. They may NOT be known for their scheduling practices and pre-surgery information for the patient and/or the person that is waiting with the patient????????? Yesterday I had the worst experience at any hospital ever at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My friend who is 75 years young and has high blood pressure and diabetes, was there for breast surgery at 5:30 am (we left her home at 4:00am) and for a 1 and 1/2 hour surgery, which we were told would be done between 10:30 - 11:30 am. They took her back for surgery at 1:40pm. Her surgery did not begin until AFTER 4:00pm and she did not come out of surgery until AFTER 8:30pm. They wanted to send her home after she came out of recovery, which would have been around 9:30-10:00pm. Can you imagine a 65 year old helping her into a Chevy Tahoe after breast surgery and getting to her home around midnight and helping her out of the vehicle by myself. I told the doctor that I had to go home. They left her in the holding room on the surgery floor last night, which was better than her going home, but in my opinion, they should have planned for her to stay the night in the first place. If I had known that this would be an all day and part of the night event, I could have gone to work, but I missed an entire day and became very, very frustrated and angry with the experience. PLEASE VANDERBILT COULD YOU WORK ON YOUR SCHEDULING PRACTICES. P.S. I WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN THIS POST 1 STAR EXCEPT THAT I COULDNT POST THIS COMMENT WITHOUT MARKING SOMETHING.
