***THIS REVIEW IS FOR Dr. Nelms himself when he was practicing, NOT FOR THE NEW PRACTICE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY UT PHYSICIANS!!! THEY HAVE LOST COUNTLESS RECORDS OF LONG-TIME PATIENTS OF DR. NELMS, AND – QUITE PLAINLY – THEY SUCK!!!*** Dr. Nelms would be absolutely ASHAMED of the way this "new version" of his old practice is operating! UT Physicians treats every patient like a NUMBER – not like Dr. Nelms office did before he retired, which was to treat you like a HUMAN. WITH THAT SAID... I have four children - the oldest of which is 23. So as you can see, we were patients of Dr. Nelms for many, many years. To say that I was heartbroken to hear that he was finally retiring (which we saw coming for the last couple of years leading up to him actually retiring) is a gross understatement. We were - and still are - DEVASTATED. He is the epitome of what a pediatrician SHOULD BE! He was kind, compassionate, funny, and genuinely loved my children as though they were his own. He was there during highs (school achievements, high school graduation, etc.), and lows (diagnoses of autism, ADHD, etc. for my other boys). And yet, he somehow had a way of making those lows tolerable. He had talks with my oldest son about puberty, and what to expect with it, and just general advice and BSing - in all of his candor - my son adored him like a grandfather. He simply had this innate way of sitting down and talking with you candidly, like an old friend or grandfather would. My oldest son, who is now a Marine and lives a good bit away, was even devastated himself when he learned of Dr Nelms retirement. I know this review is rather long-winded, so I digress. This is merely to say how much we absolutely adore(d) him and to let him know that he will be missed greatly. And to add a sidenote – I am having nine kinds of heck trying to find a replacement pediatrician, because absolutely NONE measure up to him – so its going to be an impossible task, I fear. We (and I speak for many) love and miss you so, Dr. Nelms!!!

Dr Nelms cared for my son who has both Down Syndrome and Autism. He was the best care I could have ever asked for. Then UT Physicians took the practice and now, my nine year old son has been dropped from their system and is expected to come in and sign up as a new patient. His ongoing prescription for medication that he has been taking for a year will suddenly not be renewed and he runs out at 3:00 today. They are placing my son in a dangerous position of going through withdrawals and potential risks associated with cutting him off of a medication that is not supposed to be stopped abruptly. I have been trying for days to get them to continue his meds, but they care nothing about the nine year history they should have on file and they care nothing about what my son is about to go through because of their incompetence. Do yourself for a favor and stay away from this practice. I have an appointment scheduled with another Doctor for my son, who has nothing to do with UT Physicians, but it is going to be weeks until he gets seen and back on his medication. What a sad excuse for a medical practice. Hopefully, as I file a complaint with the Texas Medical Board, they will at least keep track of the risks they are placing on their patients.

I agree with several other reviewers. Dr. Nelms, Tami and his staff have been our go-to drs for over 14 years. We love them, have always felt like family there. In fact, with one of my children, we were there so often, everyone in the office knew my son!:) However, with the move to UT Physicians, its been bad. Even Tami has left now. Having to call a call center to talk to a nurse who decides if its worth her time to schedule me an appt with the dr is maddening. If I were a first time mom, Id be really upset. As its been, weve had to wait 4 weeks for a regular physical for my daughter (school mandated and time was of the essence), several days to get in when kids have been sick, but no fever (bronchial issues) and not once have we actually seen the people whove taken care of my kids for years. We too have had the records lost for two of my 3 kids in the transition. Filled them out twice now for my daughter and likely will have to again when she gets sick. I love Dr Nelms. Cant say enough wonderful things about him. I feel sure hes sad about the way his patients are being treated in the new system.

I love Dr. Nelms and Tammy. I never had a problem with getting my kids in when they were sick. They now since have moved in with UT Physicians off of Spring Green in Katy. Gook luck on getting in. When your child is sick, they transfer you to a nurse that determines weather your child needs to be seen and when to get you in. When my child is sick, I want to be seen the same day, not wait till some nurse tells me what she thinks. Since the move, they no longer take my sons insurance, so for a cash patient, they want to charge me $400 for a well child visit??? That is ridiculous. I called back to speak with Dr. Nelms nurse to find out what doctors they are referring to, they wont let you talk to anyone.

Dr. Nelms is great...if you can see him. UT sucks. Took my son to see him and got another Dr. instead. She knew nothing about his history and didnt have his records. I had to refill out ALL of his paperwork again like he was a new patient. My daughter is due for a physical and they could not find her records. Told my wife that they had no such patient. Wife started tearing into them and magically they found the records. Totally bullshite. We will be looking for another physician after this bullshite.

Dr. Nelms is awesome. Tammy is awesome. They get 5 stars as medical personnel. However, they are no use to me if i can not ever reach them in time of need......negative 10 stars for UT PHYSICIANS. I do not wish to speak to people in Kalamazoo, Michigan about my children when there is a need to speak to an in office nurse. Calling them is worst than calling Comcast or Sprint.

Dr. Nelms has taken care of my son for 12 years and is 5 stars in my book!. I called to schedule an appointment today and he is no longer with the UT practice that took over several years ago. UT will not help me and would not give me any information as to where to find him. Can Someone help us find him, please!!!
