I had a spine procedure at Presbyterian Rockwall just over two months ago. Our experience since then has been absolutely shameful on their end. I am a firefighter by trade and on a fixed budget income and work two other part time jobs to provide for my family (such is the case for most fireman). I have received several threatening calls from the billing department explaining their "payment policy" which consists of a 5 month payment plan or payment in full option. If you do not comply with such they turn you over to a collections agency and leverage your credit score against you, bullying you into ridiculous payment arrangements. Heres where it gets shameful though... 1) Their payment plan policy isnt written anywhere and explained PRIOR to your procedure (it was only said if you cant afford the 20K procedure we can set you up on a payment plan prior to me having the procedure). The policy is (and I quote) "a verbal one that is made with you POST procedure" and will only be considered for a maximum of 6 months "regardless of the bill amount." 2) Initially we made a payment to show good faith on this, which they have accepted and posted, however since it does not meet the "verbal" monthly payment (which I never agreed to) they continue with their threats to turn this over to a collection agency and damage my credit. 3) We have offered to make substantial monthly payments ($200/month) till the bill is paid in full which they refuse to accept stating "this does not comply with our internal policy" (which was never explained PRIOR to the procedure). And lastly 4) All prior bills with the hospital have been PAID IN FULL and our account prior to this in 100% excellent standing - yet they refuse to work with us where we are at financially and insist on payments close to $600/month. Who has that sort of extra money each month? I sure dont, and Im disgusted that an organization whos slogan consists of "caring hearts" will not work with someone who is desperately willing to make legitimate payments and avoid damaging their credit. From now on Ill drive the extra mile to Baylor (who set up 12 month payment plan back when my child was born). I will say to be as fair as possible, the services provided at the hospital were acceptable and overall a good experience.

Two nights ago my 9 month old stopped breathing at home after giving him OTC baby calming medication. Triage ER nurse Susan questioned us in the room. I told her what I saw happen to his little body. She asked me "how long was he not breathing?" I answered honestly and without letting my emotions over come me, "3 minutes" she rudely smirked and chuckled while rolling her eyes. I know what I saw and in fact after looking at my 911 call log he was not breathing for a whole 4 minutes. I hung up as soon as he took a breathe. During the triage he started twitching again. I told her "look hes twitching, shaking" she grabbed him and then handed him back like nothing. I felt hopeless. She didnt believe what we had just experienced and was not taking our concerns seriously... The next day we learned he is lactose intolerant and those OTC baby pills are milk based AND a seizure was triggered!!! My baby boy was in fact breathless and twitching from a seizure for 3 minutes. If you nurse Susan can not do a basic triage in the ER environment with respect and an ounce of humanity you are in the wrong profession. I am so grateful I stood by ground with you and spoke up for my son. I truly felt like you would have turned us away. I wonder how many other critical ill patients who need emergency care you have belittled their symptoms. If you have a medical emergency be prepared to be bullied during you triage. They dont take people seriously.

During my visit, the ER nurse, ER PA, and radiology were all courteous and did their job satisfactorily (as far as I could tell). After finding nothing notable in the CT scan I was released. That was OK, the doctor who sent me to the ER was concerned I might have appendicitis or something similar because of the pain. Ruling that out was a good thing. But the release is where things went downhill. The ER referred me to a specialist who could not see me for THREE weeks. When the hospital followed up the next day I asked if they could get me in to see someone else a bit sooner. They said theyd get back to me but never did. So, I took it on myself to call around for other specialists and found one that could see me in only one week (8 days, but that was best I could find). Before I could see the specialist, the pain medication prescribed by the ER ran out. When I called the hospital, they said I would have to visit the ER again (incurring the cost of another ER visit) to get it refilled. Ridiculous. I was then referred to a patient advocate who immediately told me she could not help me with the pain prescription (before I had a chance to ask). When I inquired about the status of their finding another specialist, she could not find any record of anyone making any effort to do so. So, decent ER but do not expect any follow-up assistance.

Came in to the ER in tears bc I was in such excruciating lower back abdominal & pelvis pain, while highly pregnant, worried about the effect on the baby & having it early or having to have an emergency enducement or c-section. ER told L&D I was in labor & I wasnt. L&D did an unpleasant swab to test for labor & then said the Dr didnt want to run it; total waste of time & specimen. They had an ultrasound tech who "couldnt see much" & so then L&D transferred me over to the ER where they took additional specimens & actually ran them whatdya know, but then said they all came back negative, so just gave me OTC Tylenol & discharged me, without ever finding or addressing the cause of my pain. I was there for 6 hours & I got no answers & 2 Tylenol; what a joke! I told them what I thought it was, they said I was probably right, & then did nothing about it & said if thats what it was, it wouldnt affect the baby, it would just hurt the hell out of me, & acted like they were okay with that, & I should be too.

When we showed we went right to a room. Then an hour goes by the nurse comes in swabs his nose didnt ask any questions walked out. Two hours later the doctor comes in orders a chest xray and a nose swab hmmm I mention the nurse already did that he seemed upset that I spoke. then hours go by I went to ask a nurse what was going on that we have been here for hours she responded with no you dont say... Right after she comes in swabs his throat even though his throat didnt hurt at all. I went to the nurse station to ask what the hold up is and was ignored until I yelled maam then asked who I needed to speak with you file a complaint. Boom the doctor not 1 but 2 nurses show up and then the truth comes out there was a mix up at the lab and blah blah calling bs. I asked so why were we not informed and you just left us here to wait for hours with no answers. Seems that no one can communicate here. This place is the worst and needs to be shut down I will never come back.
