I have taken my 2 cats and 1 dog here for the last 6 years. My oldest cat, who was 19, just recently had to be put to sleep. We took her in prior to this, and Dr. Ponce along with her staff were so sweet and sensitive to what a hard thing this was to have to do. They even offer a service to come to your home and do it, which we opted to do. However, my history with this place is even more amazing, the same kitty (19 years old) a few years ago developed an allergy to litter!!! She chewed her paws open, and sores on her face, it was awful. Dr. Ponce and her staff took extra good care of her, my poor kitty ended up in the cone of shame for nearly a year while we got all of her allergies under control. During this time, we were in the office once a week with her, and the staff was always sweet. Not to mention, Dr. Ponce never charged us for those visits, just for the medications we needed to refill during some of these follow ups. They truly care about your pets. One last experience, a friend of mine had a dog that had eaten something and was non-stop vomiting and we were nervous. I told her to call Avenues Pet Clinic, this was at almost 6pm on a weekday. They agreed to stay open to see my friends dog! Turns out the dog was totally fine, but it was a good thing they brought him in because Dr. Ponce and her staff were able to give him a anti-nausea medication to keep him from continuing to vomit and become dehydrated. I truly cant say enough for this clinic. It is true that sometimes you have longer than normal wait times, but if you bother to ask, 99.9% of the time it is because they have had an emergency come in. If that bothers you, you can always ask to reschedule, but for me personally, it brings me comfort that they will take these emergencies in and treat them as a true priority. I hope to not be in those shoes, and in a perfect world, no one would ever have to be in those shoes, but its nice to know that if I was, I can trust this vet to make me a priority. Update: We received the sweetest condolences card from everyone in the office after we had to put our 19 year old kitty to sleep. Just the thoughtfulness of the staff at this place is amazing.

Our Fox terrier was injured seriously after a tete-a-tete with a neighborhood feline. He didnt show any external signs of injury but was in extreme pain. I took him pretty much immediately to our regular vet (Aves pet clinic). She looked at him and couldnt find any thing wrong and referred me to a emergency clinic if the pain persisted. I asked her to prescribe some thing for the pain for what seemed to me like a fracture as my dog was in extreme pain but she seemed to think ice was enough. She seemed extremely non committal to what I should do next. She referred me to another pet emergency center (why did I just waste my time taking our Dog here?). Needless to say we spent a sleepless night in extreme pain thanks to some negligent care by Dr . Ponce (yes, she charged me for that MIS(diagnosis). I researched orthopedic vets and decided to take our dog to Cottonwood animal hospital the next morning. Upon examination and X-rays the vet determined that it was a C-1( atlas) fracture. We could have lost our pet or had some long term neurological deficits had our dogs broken vertebra suffered any kind of displacement. Dr. Ponce also didnt show the medical curiosity to find out what had happened to our dog and how he was fairing. Seems like this is not the place that would like to deal with real medical issues, they seem more like the kind of place that thrive on selling vaccinations and heartworm medications. I wouldnt recommend this place under any circumstances.

Strangely enough, the best way to describe my pleasure and the great job they did is to use my children as my story. I have an 8 year old boy, a 6 year old girl, and a 4 year old girl. Not only did they have a cute little kid chair and table with a puzzle, but the tech who helped me and my puppy out was a brilliant giver of suckers to me to use at my discretion and the kids never saw it. If they are that good with my rather rambunctious children, they are the much better with my teeny, tiny yorkie mix who is quite the sassy girl herself. I was very please at the docs thorough check and description of what was going on and being more than happy to answer any questions I had about things that werent part of the visit. The staff is very helpful and friendly and it was quite the relief that another tech helping to clean my pups ears and to medicate for an infection came upon a really great trick that worked to keep my puppy still. They showed me how to clean and medicate her ears rather than just explaining and hoping I got it. I also really loved that she explained the anatomy of dog ears and it gave me the piece of mind about sticking things down in. Learning they have L shaped canals and that there is not much of a risk of hitting the ear drum was all the reassurance I needed to feel confident in taking good care and managing successful care at home.

Not Great. Though the staff was very nice, I felt this clinic was very expensive for the amount of care provided. I took my cat to Avenues because she had blood in her urine, something pretty common for cats. I took her in at about 5:00 pm and had to wait almost an hour for them to see her, even though I had made an appointment. I left her over night since they werent able to get a proper urine sample at that moment. When I picked her up the next afternoon they had given her a urinalysis but were still unable to tell whether she had a urine infection or just stones in her bladder. They suggested she get X-rays, but I declined since I felt it was a little unnecessary. If she did indeed have stones, the antibiotics wouldnt do much for her and that would give me my answer. I paid 200 dollars to pick her up and take her home on antibiotics and joint supplements (still not sure why she needed supplements in the first place, I was never told her joints were bad, and shes a young cat?). Needless to say, the antibiotics and joint supplements didnt solve the problem, but there is no way I want to take her back. Im certain there are better, less expensive places out there.

Ive always liked this local pet clinic but after my last visit I am not certain that liking the place is sufficient to patronize it. I came to get the yearly vaccination for my cat. I was on time for the appointment, and waited, as usual, for a while to get called in. Once in the examination room, we waited again for the assistant to weigh the cat, waited another long stretch of time for the vet to saunter by and ask us how we were, then another long wait for the assistant to bring in the paperwork ("no, I don;t want the $350 blood test!") and then another interminable period for the vet to come in and deliver 3 shots in 5 minutes. I can only conclude that this establishment has an utter contempt for their clients time. All in all, I spent 1.5 hours there for 10 min of vets time. While the vets are multitasking, probably seeing 3-4 clients at a time, you are left there to languish with the terrified cat. On the plus side, the receptionists are super friendly and helpful. They get a star. This is no place for busy professionals. If you are on schedule, you might consider some place else. I know I will.
