To sum up my experience, life changing! Back in 2008 I had an injury to my left shoulder, and in June of 2009 I had surgery for it, SLAP 3 to be exact. After the surgery things went pretty well other than I was left with limited movement and something I never had prior in my life, migraines! Now I know it was not my surgical doctor’s fault, as he was recommended by many different generals doctors and considered to be one of the best orthopedic surgeons in the state. So it had to be something else. Well in 2012 we did another exploratory surgery which lead to minor improvements but still had the pesky migraines and limited movement. Seriously I would have 3-4 migraines a month that would cause me to pass out, throw up or completely incapacitate me for up to 1-3 days. Well fast forward to February 2017, I had been seeing my general doctor for these migraines for a few years, various muscle relaxers, antiepileptic medications, pain relievers, all only lead to temporary relief. I was finally diagnosed with an impinged nerve in my left shoulder that explained the tightness, weakness, limited movement and numbness that I have had for a while. My doctor then suggested to try some physical therapy for a month before he wants to send me out to the orthopedic surgeon again. I was skeptical to say the least. After all I had been through well over a year of physical therapy since the injury and my 2 surgeries. So I was not expecting much, just more of the same stretches, exercises and weights. All stuff I was doing at home that never seemed to help solve the issue. I did get those but I also got something much much different. Sam at Mountain Land Physical Therapy suggested we do the typical stuff with another procedure, Trigger Point Dry Needling. Never heard of it? Well neither had I until Sam explained it. Basically, the easiest way to explain is its western mythology to eastern acupuncture. They take a super thin needle and stick it right into the muscle and move it around causing the muscle to spasm and release. Does it hurt? Yes, but in a good way, let me explain. You won’t feel the needle, but when the needle hits the trigger point it will cause an uncontrolled spasm of the muscle. This, in itself, is mildly painful and afterwards you will be sore but in a good way, like a good workout way. Remember it takes some pain to relieve other longer lasting pain. So back to myself, after doing the dry needling for the first time I attempted to put my arm above my head, something I had not been able to so since 2008. Guess what, it went all the way up without pain or stopping around 100 degrees as it used to!!! 1 treatment and it made me able to do something I hadn’t been able to do for 9 years. Now it only lasted a few days but I kept going, 2 times a week and one of those we always did the dry needling. I am happy to report that the effects of the dry needling keep lasting longer and longer and longer. Ohh also the migraines I mentioned earlier, I haven’t had one since. Sam actually changed my life! I went from going just day to day hoping I wouldn’t get a migraine, waking up stiff, sore, and arm half numb to not worrying about keeping migraine pills everywhere I go. I sleep fully at night now, I can cuddle my significant other all night without having to roll away or take pills that make me feel like crap in the morning. Seriously, consider this treatment, as someone that has lived in pain, tried everything, legal and illegal to relieve the pain, this is one thing I can say that actually worked.

I would recommend the team at Mountain Land Physical Therapy to my own Grandmother...10 times over. I worked mostly with Sam...was assisted by Garrett and Taylor...and was greeted with a smile every visit by Sandy. They are warm, genuinely caring, happy and knowledgeable. Still not sure if they are right for you?...keep reading! When my podiatrist/surgeon first recommended physical therapy, I was absolutely, hands down skeptical. I thought that there was no possible way physical therapy would do anything to alleviate my post surgical pain. It took one appointment to make me a believer. Despite what I would consider a rare condition, Sam knew exactly what I needed within 35 min of our first handshake (the magic of KT tape!). I practically danced out of the office, pain free for the first time in months. Sam told me that the solution was temporary and there was more hard work to be done so I could walk pain free. Again, I thought, there is no way; I was sure I would be hobbling around with tape for the rest of my life. Sam proved me wrong again. Once I was able to walk pain free, I sat in front of Sam in tears, thinking I would certainly never be able to run again because of severe pain. I thought for sure she would end my therapy since I could walk. She looked me straight in my eyes and told me she would have be running again. Today I ran, nearly pain free. I dismounted the treadmill and gave Sam a great big sweaty hug. She didnt give up on me. She took me from barely being able to walk a block because of pain, to being able to run again!! I will never doubt the power of Physical Therapy again and I certainly will never doubt the power of Sam! Thank you Sam and team!

I was diagnosed with ulnar nerve entrapment at the left elbow and lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) after an EMG and nerve conduction test. I was told the best treatment before opting for surgery was to wrap a towel around my elbow while I slept. After four months, I contacted Sam (Samantha) Panos, PT, DPT at the downtown location in hopes of finding another way to relieve the pain. Sam had another options; massage therapy, strength and stretch exercises, a TENS machine and DRY NEEDLING. Wait, what, needles?! Nothing else had worked so why not. I agreed. Best decision I’ve made this year. For those of us who are squeamish of needles, relax, take a deep breath and count to 5. It’s over? Huh? That didn’t hurt, in fact I had less pain instantly. Two days later, after four months of consistent pain, I had moments of no pain. It was a miracle. Hope of healing was restored. It’s now been 4 weeks and 5 dry needling sessions and I feel great. I have little to no pain. Can’t wait to see how I feel in another month. If dry needling is an option for recovery---DO IT! You will not be disappointed!

I couldnt say enough good things about the Mountain Land South Temple office. Sam, Garrett, and Sandy were fantastic to work with! Ive had a lot of lower-back pain, stemming from a car accident, and it has been considered pretty serious. Sam was able to work with me and adapt a recovery program that was meant for me, not a standard program out of the book for back issues. Sam is intuitive and cares about the success of her patients. I was able to get the treatment I needed to get me back on track! I enjoyed every time I went into the office. If you are in need of physical therapy I recommend this office and encourage you to challenge Garrett on his extensive sports knowledge, including soccer. Although Sandy would out do Garrett on a soccer game show, his knowledge is still impressive.
