Rating: 2 stars ("Disliked it") I just moved to the area. Due to the trouble I had with this place Im writing to hopefully save many parents a lot of time and aggravation. Pros: they are rated as "Top Doctors" Cons: Lots of things about this place are like no other practice Ive ever been to. 1. You can not even set up an appointment with them until they have your childs medical record. I was told to come into the office to fill out a release for them to get the forms from my childs previous doctor, however I ended up finding the same forms online and saved an hour round trip. 2. They charge a $20 fee per phone call to an on-call physician during after hours. Insurance will generally not cover this. If you are a first time parent seeking a pediatrician, there will be MANY nights you call the doctor and this could really add up. 3. They charge a $10 fee for any proof of medical records. It doesnt matter if they fax, snail mail, or you pick it up on your way out of the office. If you have an infant in daycare, you will likely need proof of shots many times throughout the first year. This number could also really add up. 4. The receptionist always seems a little on edge.. Almost like shes expecting you to freak out on her for the practices ridiculous policies, so she is very defensive. I feel sorry for her because its almost like they put her out there as a human shield. I would argue the problem with this place is they have too many patients. The receptionist said to me "Can you imagine the number of requests we get for proof of immunization?" Well.... yeah. Thats literally as standard as it gets. Was someone surprised by this?! And I have to assume they feel the same way about after hours calls. Ive lived many places and had many doctors and am just fed up with all of these things, so Im going back to my old doctor, even if hes an hour away.

My children have been seen by this practice for 12 years. The doctors and staff are wonderful. They know my children and I by name and give them personal and attentive service. The few times my children have been very ill, the staff all went out of their way to work them in with very little notice. Contrary to a previous review, the front desk staff have always been kind and attentive to us. They have even gone out of their way to accommodate my urgent request for forms to be filled out and signed by the doctor when I had neglected to plan ahead. I believe that the $10 fee that was referred to was for REPLACEMENT copies. When we get new shots, we ask for an updated copy of the shot record while we are there, no problem. You may have a hard time getting them to answer the phone during the first 30 minutes and last 30 minutes of the day, BUT they are all working to reach patients with critical lab results that were processed overnight and then finish up the last patients of the day and the ones that got worked in due to illness. The patients that need them the most are getting their attention, just as you would want if it was your child with the critical lab results. They have a busy practice, but you and your family will feel like you are getting personalized attention. Their medical providers and nurses are experienced, skilled, and kind, and their front office staff is attentive and welcoming.

I found the previous review to be less than satisfying, so I decided to leave my own review. I have been going to Rappahannock Pediatrics for almost 6 years. Not only are the doctors absolutely wonderful, so is the staff. Each person who works there remembers each of my children and makes them each feel welcome and cared for at every visit. When I bring one child they will always ask about my children who are not with me. These people truly care about every single child that comes into that office. I usually have to call and make same day appointments for sick children and every single time have been able to get them in within the hour. If you want your children to get the best possible care in the area, you will take them here. Period. As for the previous review of 2 stars, every single Dr. office I have had appointments at, wants past medical records. Its standard protocol. I feel bad that your pride is letting you miss out on this great place! Also, I have called the triage all hours of the night and have never been charged. My children needed their immunization records as well and have never been charged. I find the previous review to be left out of spite!

I love them...except they are horrible with answering the phone. Dont try calling 30 minutes after they open or 30 minutes before they close. The answering machine will pick up.
