Dr. Escobar and his staff are fantastic. We have been going to them for about six months, since we first got our young corgi and we have been very happy with the teams attentiveness to our puppys health and well-being. A friend and colleague (a practicing physician) strongly recommended Dr. Escobar to us shortly after we picked up our puppy from the breeder. Upon this recommendation, we took our corgi to Springfield Veterinary Center for his first checkup and round of shots, and have been going back ever since this initial positive experience. Today was the growing pups neutering surgery, and the great care we received is what prompted me to write this review. Our experience was exactly what I hoped for from start to finish... The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional during the check-in process. After completing the necessary paperwork, our puppy was taken to the backroom by the technician staff to be clinically assessed and prepared for the procedure. At this point, I was able to leave and go about my day. A couple hours later, I received an unexpected (but appreciated) email containing an itemized estimate for the overall procedure and all services scheduled for the day, which ended up being quite accurate. About an hour later, I received a phone call directly from Dr. Escobar to confirm the surgery was on schedule, provide details on the anesthesia being used, and share his estimate for the total surgery time. Later that afternoon, I received a follow-up call confirming the surgery went well and our puppy was being monitored for any lingering effects of the anesthesia, thus we would be able to pick him up at 5 PM. As we arrived, the front staff not only remembered who we were, they also had our paperwork and invoice ready and waiting. In addition, they had an examination room ready for us, so we could meet with Dr. Escobar to ask questions and review/discuss post-operative care procedures and documentation. The good doctor was even kind enough to provide his personal cell phone number, in case we had any urgent questions or emergencies. As a healthcare professional, I can only describe what I experience today as being on par with the gold standard of coordinated, high-quality care that healthcare organizations strive to deliver for human patients. In short, Springfield Veterinary Center is top-notch and I strongly recommend Dr. Escobar and his team, to anyone with a pet in the greater Richmond area and beyond.

I too, as the reviews below, had been taking several animals there. However, what the people on here who wrote reviews do not know yet, as I did not, that until you have an animal with anything more than the basic problem, they will not be able to diagnose or treat it. If you are just going in for shots, virus, anything general, you will be fine. Once they get into anything more than that, they do not know what to do, as frankly, they cannot handle anything that requires more knowledge. There will be no diagnosis or treatment for anything requiring more than a checkup, shots, deworming and some blood work. Anything further, you are out of luck with these guys. They are also the most expensive in town but I never cared as I liked these guys so much and nothing is too expensive for my animals. I kept hoping they would increase their skills and do better. However, I have to say that both doctors are the most personable and nicest guys you ever want to meet. Their staff is great, friendliest, most efficient and appear very caring, more than I have ever experienced. They just are not equipped with any tools to take care of sick animals, including any boarding or medical care that requires anything remotely complicated. If I was rating personality and friendliness, they would be second to none. But, if you love your animals like I do, stay as far away as possible. You will never get a diagnosis or any treatment. They just cannot handle. The knowledge is just not there, but Scotti and Escobar are very nice people and I always liked them. Unfortunately, this is business.

Three years ago, I was a new puppy mom and had been recommended to Dr. Escobar for my dogs care. From the first, my puppy has loved going there--everyone from Dr. Escobar on down has been inordinately compassionate, responsive and impressively competent. And you know puppies can get into trouble. During his first months, our pup managed to wrestle the innersole out of one of my shoes. When I noticed some black matter around his mouth, I realized hed been chewing on the foam lining of the innersole. Springfield said it would be a good idea to bring him in. Since I had some critical errands to run, I figured Id finish them and then run Will in. Five minutes into my errands, I received a call from them, wondering where Wilie was. I hadnt realized the critical nature of foam in a puppys stomach, and had him there pronto. They treated him and watched him the rest of the day to ensure he hadnt actually ingested the foam. Of course, all my pup was interested in was the doggie treat as he left. Three years later, he still cant wait to get out of the car there. And I love watching Dr. Escobar as he lovingly handles and talks to my dog. I think Willie would do anything for him.

This, being the first review that I have ever written on Google could not be more appropriate. We have been taking our children to SVC since I believe a month after they opened. At the time we lived down the street, yet for the last 15 years we have lived in Hanover and never considered going anywhere else. When needed, we happily make the 25 minute ride to see Dr. Steve, Dr. Chris, and everyone else on their team. My wife and I can never say enough about both who they are as professionals and how wonderful and caring they are as people. It saddened me to read a negative review about their practice and the perceived ineptness of SVC, nothing could be further from the truth. So long as we continue to have children with 4 legs, they will be cared for by all of the wonderful folks that we have met thru the years at SVC.

Like Dr. Baldwin, I feel the need to respond to the comments made by Ms. Sorenson. Over the last 35+ years that I have owned, raised, trained and bred Labrador Retrievers, I have gotten to know quite a few veterinarians. Both on a professional and personal level, I have nothing but the utmost respect for Steve Escobar, Kara Kolster and Chris Scotti. The facility is fantastic...one of the few clinics where I can have progesterone results back the same day as the blood is drawn!! At every pregnancy ultrasound for one of my dogs, I am given a copy of the ultrasound on CD, at no additional cost!! The equipment is state-of-the-art, the veterinarians are second to none and their staff always greets me by first name when I walk in the door. Despite the two hour drive to get there, I would not go anywhere else!!

Thanks to Dr. Scotti, my sweet poodle Rocky had 18 months of happiness extended to his life. Dr.Scotti noticed a heart defect that others had missed. The staff at Springfield treated me and Rocky like we were family and helped me navigate the difficult world of canine cardiovascular care with great knowledge and patience. While Rocky had to be treated by a cardiologist, I continued to take him to Springfield for everything else and they kept great track of all of his meds and conditions and gave him top notch care. Springfield is a little bit of a distance for me, but I couldnt imagine taking my pets anywhere else. Dr. Scotti has also been incredibly patient with me as I adapt to now having a rescue puppy! Everyone there is extremely friendly, professional and provides excellent customer service.
