Full disclosure -- I work here. And when I first started, I assumed that I would continue to bring my cat to the animal hospital near my Bedford home, both for convenience and because Id had nothing but good experiences with them. But all it took was a short time among the staff of Harris Animal Hospital to realize there is nowhere else I would rather bring my baby. These people go above and beyond. They race to meet new pets and beloved regulars alike; they shower every animal with genuine care and affection; they take time to calm nervous and frightened pets, making the whole experience more positive for everyone. Put simply, the people at Harris are an inspiration. Doctors Hodges and Simon are incredibly capable and compassionate vets whose love for animals shines through in all that they do. They are always happy to answer my questions, and provide clear, thorough explanations of every recommendation they make. And I trust them, because they never suggest a product, whether food, supplement or medication, that they wouldnt use in caring for their own pets, and will always communicate frankly about potential risks or side effects. Olga is a shy girl, and often scared of strangers, but everyone at Harris was so kind and gentle with her that she came home acting as if nothing had happened! Even techs and assistants checked in to ask how she was feeling after her checkup and shots. Its a wonderful, immensely reassuring feeling to know that during every visit, no matter how small and routine the procedure, my pet will be treated like family.

I have known Dr Lucinda Hodges through some rescue work for some time. I was in a dire situation with one of my dogs last week and posted it on Facebook. Dr Lucinda Hodges, immediately, jumped in with a message saying she would help us. The Veterinarian we had been seeing for this problem had refused to help us because she was not comfortable with the situation. We saw Dr Hodges the next morning and she and the staff were awesome. She jumped right in to a complex situation and said she would do whatever it took to help us and keep us out of emergency clinics at night. She regulated several medicines and added another one to get us through a really rough spot. She was messaging to monitor the situation and telling me how to adjust meds if necessary. We have been going to the hospital most every day for laser treatments and the staff has been wonderful to us. In the midst of this, one of my old dogs needed to be euthanized and they told me to bring him in right away. They had never met Jack but everyone treated him like an old friend. They were gentle and loving which made our last moments together so sweet; we were all crying. I have never met a more compassionate and fearless veterinarian and the staff is reflective of her qualities. Thank you, Harris Animal Hospital, for not being afraid to help us out. Your kindness and reassurance meant as much to us as your physical help.

It is difficult to find the words to fully describe how incredibly thankful I am to Harris Animal Hospital and Dr. Lucinda Hodges for saving the life of my dear Peke Stella. Stella was rescued from a deplorable puppy mill in N.C., where she and about 50 other dogs had spent their entire lives in tiny crates stacked upon each other. They sat in their own urine, feces, rotting food and dirty water. Stella and her puppy were taken to a shelter, where the puppy was adopted but Stella stood to be gassed. Meanwhile, her malnourishment had led to such severe dental disease that her jaw was fractured in two places, and she was living with terrible pain. Dr. Hodges performed an extensive jaw restoration, caring for Stella personally for months as she recovered with her wired jaw. Stella had never seen flowers before and was terriifed of everything -- even walking on grass -- when Dr. Hodges took her in. That was in the spring of 2013. Four years later, Stella is full of life! She LOVES to eat and play; her tail is constantly wagging, and she adores her "brother," Sam, a Shih Tzu rescue. She also can be found napping curled up with her two feline brothers. She rules the household, and every day I silently thank Dr. Hodges and Harris Animal Hospital for giving life to this girl. Thank you!

The Doctors and staff at Harris Animal Hospital are very knowledgeable, caring people. I continue to be quite pleased with the way both Dr. Hodges and Dr. Simon interact with my furry family members, as well as all others. Their calm, soothing mannerisms make all the difference in the world when working with animals. I recently took on a foster dog, Loki, who turned out to be quite the accident prone herder. After about a month in my home, Loki and my sons dog had a scuffle and Loki ended up with a broken front limb. Both doctors had a hand in treating Lokis fracture, as he became a frequent flyer so to speak due to his breed, owner compliance and accident prone-ness. Before Loki even began to heal, he broke the 2nd bone in his leg, which gave him a visible deformity to that limb, and set him up to quite possibly lose that limb all together. The fractures were not great options for surgical fixation, so Dr. Hodges made the decision to put Loki in a full front leg cast. His fractures healed beautifully, and Loki is now using that leg completely again!! Many thanks to both doctors and their staff who have all taken a part in Lokis physical recovery, as well as continued mental recovery as he is a very special Rescued BC!! . ❤️ Thank You!

I adopted a special needs kitten when is was in graduate school years ago. A veterinary neurologist told me he would only live a year before a latent infection occurred and I would lose him. Well, 10 years later he was still running around my house causing all kids of mischief. I attribute the years I got to spend loving my sweet Thadius to the care he received from Dr. Hodges and the staff at Harris Animal Hospital. For the first 2-3 years of his life she saw him at least every other week to help me care for his legs which were left paralyzed after an accident he had when he was 4 weeks old. He was a well known character at the hospital and a favorite among the staff even though he was not the easiest patient to handle. She taught me how to take care of each of his needs and spent her own personal time researching options we could try for treatment. My family has taken our pets to Harris for most of my life and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great veterinary practice. And I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hodges. She truly cares about her patients and their families.

This review of Harris Animal Hospital and Dr. Lucinda Hodges is long overdue. Simply put…they are the BEST! When I adopted Jazzy, a Pekingese puppy in 2013, she needed stenotic nares surgery and to be spayed. Rather than trust my local vet, I drove 3 ½ hours to Roanoke to visit Dr. Hodges. I knew because of her affiliation with Potomac Valley Pekingese Rescue, that she was familiar with the breed, and that she had the experience I was looking for in a veterinary surgeon. And of course, Dr. Hodges did not disappoint! After both successful procedures, she even took my puppy home to her house so she could monitor Jazzy all night, while she recovered from the surgery. How awesome was that?! I cannot recommend Harris Animal Hospital and Dr. Lucinda Hodges highly enough. If you love your pets the way I do, you want the very best for them, and Harris Animal Hospital and Dr. Lucinda Hodges are the BEST (and the cost of their services is reasonable and fair). It’s a win-win situation for both you and your pet!
