My cat fell off my 5th floor balcony 24 hours before I was leaving for vacation. I took her to an emergency clinic (not Island Cats Veterinary Hospital) right away where I was told it would be over $300 for x-rays that would determine if she needed surgery that would likely cost thousands of dollars. My cat was walking around that this point and since I could not afford the surgery I opted not to have the x-rays. When I got the cat home I noticed that her jaw was swollen and not closing properly. I began looking for a veterinary hospital that also provided boarding in case she needed extended care since canceling the trip at this point was not an option. That was when I found Island Cats Veterinary Hospital. I phoned first thing in the morning and got an appointment to see the vet right away. After a quick examination of my cat the vet determined she had broken one of her front teeth and the pointed end had punctured through her lower lip (how the ‘emergency’ vet missed that I don’t know – but that is another review). Long story short, he gave me a ‘low estimate’ and a ‘high estimate’ for removing the tooth and various medications as well as boarding if she should need it. Boarding turned out to not be necessary because by the end of the day he had her all fixed up and ready to go home. Even more amazing was that the total cost was less than the low estimate they had provided in the morning. Affordability aside I was very impressed with how well she was cared by the excellent staff at Island Cats Veterinary Hospital.

We have multiple cats and used to go to a very good vet who also treated dogs and other animals. As our cats aged, we realized that their needs and our needs were changing, and we wanted a less stressful vet experience (ha! cats love to go to the vet!) and also a more caring, cat-centric environment. From the very first phone contact with Island Cats, I knew that I had found the right place. Dr. Marshall and his associate and his entire staff are absolutely wonderful. He explains everything thoroughly, offers us options, does not advocate aggressive treatments but rather starts off with the most sensible and responsible yet least aggressive, invasive, expensive plan and is willing to "wait and see." He is humane and considers the entire health picture of the cat and the fact that cats feel pain. I have never had an appointment for an illness or problem that was not followed up with a phone call to see how my cat was doing. Some cats might do okay at a regular vet clinic with dogs barking, etc.....but ours definitely do not, and the change has made vet trips much less stressful for all involved. I recommend the clinic to all of my friends with cats and only wish they were open on Saturdays. Half days on Saturdays?

Island Cats has been my vet since 1997. They have seen my beloved cats through their lifecycles--from kitten to elderly. Dr. Marshall has always given me clear options for care and helped me understand the pros and cons. When my 15-year-old Autumn had stopped eating due to thyroid problems, Dr. Marshall was supportive in my doing what I felt was right for an end-of-life loved one. My now 4.5-year-old Tully is a healthy, happy boy who has gotten himself into mischief at times. When I witnessed him finish eating one yard of "Da Bird" toy string, I rushed him to Island Cats. Without a beat, they stated that he would need an endoscopy and directed me to rush him to the animal hospital in Issaquah. They are professionals and care first and foremost for the animals welfare. It also helps that the staff there is friendly, helpful, and supportive--and that the facility is well-maintained and clean. Island Cats is more than just a veterinarians office!

Recently my dear little Izzy had to make an unexpected trip to the vet. The staff took such wonderful care of her. They were also very compassionate when it came to giving me the bad news that despite her young age, she has cancer. The news was really hard to swallow because I had not even owned her a year but the staff has gone above and beyond helping research what I could do to assure that Izzy would have a wonderful life for the rest of her short life. My vet even called to check in and see how she was doing after they removed the tumor. They are very caring and they all love cats. I highly recommend. Not your ordinary vet! Last year, Dr. Marshall had to put my Princess Mesha down and within a week, I lost my beloved Mortimer. Unfortunately, this happened after-hours, so I had to go to another vet. The love wasnt there and I wished that Mortimer could have left this world at Island Cats.

Dr. Marshall is wonderful. He is gentle with the cats, knowledgeable, easy to talk to and willing to take the time to explain what is going on. Our cats are healthy and comparatively young, so they generally need to see him only once a year. He does a physical exam and gives booster shots. When they get older, he said theyll probably need labwork with their checkups, but for now they dont need it and I appreciate the savings. At the last visit the cat needed eyedrops. He showed me how to do it. A few days later, someone called to see how the cat was doing. The staff is very nice. The rates seem reasonable (though Island Cats is the only vet Ive gone to in Washington). My friends in other states seem to pay more. The location is good and theres lots of parking. Id gladly recommend Island Cats to anyone looking for a veterinarian.

Island Cats has been my Vet of choice for 18 years. They have cared for my two cats, the cats of the families I work for and many of my friends cats as well. My boys were given excellent, gentle care despite the fact that they both attempted on a regular basis to maim the staff (really, they wanted them dead. The staff always just commiserated with my boys instead of getting frustrated!) Their ongoing excellence of care for everything from a routine checkup to dental care and dental surgery and abdominal surgery, and ongoing support with a thyroid issue has made them my partners in cat care, and I continue to use this wonderful clinic even though there are many closer to me. Travelling to Mercer Island if youre not nearby is definitely worth it!

We recently adopted a kitten from the Seattle Humane Society and went here for his free initial consultation. The vet techs and Dr. Marshall were very kind, informative and easy to talk to. Even though this consultation was FREE, Dr. Marshall spent a good half hour with me explaining what to expect and best practices for taking care of our new cat. He easily could have looked at him, said he was fine and sent us on our way, but he took the extra time to get to know me and my cat. Admittedly, he said we probably wouldnt need to see him often unless there was an emergency and didnt try to sell me or ask me to schedule another paid examination at any time. Good honest people who care for their patients!
