In January 2015 ~ I AM EXCEEDINGLY UNHAPPY WITH DR. NOLAN AND THE SNEAKY WAY SHE TRIED TO INFLATE THE COST OF TREATMENT FOR MY CAT!! I would rather go to a vet with higher prices than go to Dr. Nolan whose actions have shown me I need to keep an eye on her and that I cant simply take her word that all treatments and/or meds she recommends (or takes it upon herself to do) are truly needed! I CANT GO TO A VET I DONT TRUST AND HAVE CONFIDENCE IN!! BLVD VET CLINIC CHANGED HANDS ON 1 JUNE 2014 ~ I had been going to Blvd Vet Clinic for some years and had always appreciated the care and compassion my animals had received from Dr. Bob, as well as the treatment and faith I had in Dr. Bob. On 1 June 2014 the clinic changed hands when it was bought by Dr. Sylvia Nolan. (It was then that prices changed also.) THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ~ Early this year I took my cat to the clinic with two small scabs on the back of her neck which simply didnt go away. Dr. Nolan examined her and said it was an allergy of some sort. Dr. Nolan examined my cat, very slowly and methodically searched for fleas, checking all areas of her body. Then a few minutes later she went through the process once more, very slowing checking everywhere...but there were absolutely N-O-N-E! I told Dr. Nolan she has never had fleas and that she is my bedroom cat, never leaving my bedroom. I explained to Dr. Nolan that my cat had belonged to an elderly woman at a care facility in Eugene, Oregon. The woman died and nobody else wanted the cat so the director arranged for a male employee to take the cat home and shoot her. A caring facility employee posted an ad on CL in an attempt to rehome the cat. After being posted for 3 months with no response, I saw the ad and KNEW IMMEDIATELY that she was my next cat! My son drove to Eugene and got her for me because she was what I wanted as my Christmas present that year. TREATMENT ~ Id had my cat for about 3 years when I took her to Blvd Vet Clinic. Dr. Nolan gave her a shot to keep her from scratching. At the time I didnt question the shot but in retrospect...my cat hadnt been scratching, so why treat her for scratching? It simply hadnt been a problem. Period. So why not ASK ME if scratching is a problem!! Then she took a vial of some sort, bent the cap off in preparation for some sort of treatment to my cat. You see, whatever it was...she hadnt told me about it first, let alone gotten my approval on said treatment. Seeing that I said, WAIT, WHATS THAT? Dr. Nolan replied, ITS A FLEA TREATMENT. I told her shed thoroughly examined my cat twice and found no fleas, and my cat didnt need the treatment (which was correct!) To which Dr. Nolans exact response was, BUT IVE ALREADY OPENED IT. And I said, BUT SHE DOESNT HAVE FLEAS AND SHE DOESNT NEED IT. THE COST OF THE TREATMENT ~ The cost of an exam at Blvd Pet Clinic is now $55. If Dr. Nolan had gotten away with it, the inflated cost out the door would have been around $90. Imagine what a $500 bill could be inflated to!! I THINK ILL RESUME GOING TO Vets4Less in Federal Way. They print out several treatment options and prices, then explain the Clients options and we can then decide which route we want to go. Q: WHY didnt Dr. Nolan discuss...with me...the treatment she planned to do on my cat BEFORE doing it? Im just glad I saw fit to question what she was doing. I realize now, however, that the shot to stop itching wasnt needed either. I resent being taken by anyone, for any reason, in any amount...big or small.

I was referred to Dr. Sylvia Nolan by a friend, and absolutely love her and her staff. I have several dogs and have been in working/showing/breeding malamutes for nearly 20 years, and am very careful about my vets and want both quality, knowledgeable service as well as a practical eye towards treatments & reasonable pricing. I get all of that here, with great service and knowledgeable staff. I have not worked with the other vet, but Dr. Nolan is fantastic. I also want a vet who listens to me. I have been around long enough and am an avid researcher, and have been involved in several groups of fanciers and veterinary/reproductive medicine education - and of course know my dogs - to have something to bring to the table. I am not someone who just wants to tell my doctor what to do or a "Google" veterinarian - thats what I am paying them for, and I cannot pretend to have their experience. I trust my vets ultimate recommendations as thats what I am there for (and why I am so particular about who I use). But I also want to be heard with some respect and have support for my decisions, even if they may differ. I get that here, and that is a rare thing. Dr. Nolan has a tremendous amount of knowledge. Her staff is kind, friendly and always helpful - and terrific with the dogs. While not everyones needs, for reproductive advice in responsible breeding Dr. Nolan is also extremely knowledgeable, which most vets are not (not to dish those vets; most just dont have the experience or interest in this field - it is a specialty that requires some focus in ongoing education). Speaking to some other comments, I do not expect a "bargain" rate as I do not want a bargain vet. That does not mean I want to get gouged, either - with many dogs, I need a reasonably priced vet and one that does not automatically start testing or suggest every possible treatment. But I do expect to pay fair prices. And being around the field quite a bit as both a client and a friend of a vet, things are not cheap and I want to support small vets who operate independently - not an easy task with these conglomerates out there (and if you have any complaints about pricing and questionable treatment, try one of those ... its like the old HMOs ... and so much else, I wont even go there). I appreciate that veterinary costs have gone significantly up than even 10 years ago, but expecting prices to stay that way is not realistic and not fair to the vet. I find the services at Boulevard to be right in range - fair for high quality services.

Experience is key with Dr Bob..."never say never" is a phrase Ive heard a few times. He is open-minded, listens to customers concerns, is dedicated to educating pet parents...offers written literature. He stays current but also has some "old school" in him. Ive lost two pets suddenly in my life...due to injury or sudden acute illness and his office is extremely sensative and compassionate during a loss. He has always taken my cost into account and offered all choices for treatment. In my opinion he chose the right career in life for the right reasons, will continue to be a patron until he retires :) I also love the fact that appts arent taken for routine visits...we have never waited long and love the option of last minute visits if something comes up...lets us avoid the more costly "emergency" clinics for issues that arent emergent but cant wait a few weeks for an appt. Give this established family owned business a try, support our community, you wont regret it.
