My son was in a motorcycle accident. He had a couple surgeries in Alaska then was referred to Harborview Medical Center for reconstructive surgery. The doctors were very good. They worked very hard to fix his foot. The hospital itself could really use some organization. It seemed like no one knew what was going on. The transport people hit just about every doorway and wall there was moving my son around. Pretty much the whole time he was in patient. He was in a lot of pain so this just made it worse. On discharge we were told of his follow up appointments. Thursday, June 16th and Friday, June 17th. There was an appointment on Tuesday, June 14th that was cancelled so that was crossed off. The 14th appointment was with orthopedics. Orthopedics was possibly going to cast his foot and it made no sense to have an orthopedic appointment before the plastic surgeons saw him to give the go ahead for a cast. He received a phone call on Sunday confirming his appointment on Tuesday.....we advised that appointment was cancelled. The person on the other end of the phone said they would check into it. We got another phone call on Monday, June 13th in reference to his appointment on Tuesday. I decided to call the clinic my self to see what the actual appointments were. The woman I spoke with really didnt give me any chance to say why I had called. She said my son had an appointment on the 16th and that was it. I tried to tell her what we had in the print out from the hospital for follow up appointments. As I tried to let her know she just talked right over me. That got under my skin a bit. When I finally had my turn to talk I advised what we had in writing and just needed to get the appointments straight. She said she makes appointments for both plastics and orthopedics and the 17th appointment was cancelled, there was only an appointment on the 16th. I said I didnt know the 17th appointment was cancelled. She said she would have someone from orthopedics call me and hung up. We dont live in this area so Im trying to make sure everything is done correctly before we have a 3 hour flight back to Fairbanks, Alaska. The doctors were very good.....the rest of the experience with Harborview Medical.....not so good.

I am at a loss for words about a billing statement I received for a visit on 3/16/2017. Dr. Kathryn Bolles examined my swollen lymph nodes and recommended a blood test as a precautionary measure to rule out the cause of inflammation. There was no reason to suspect I had anything wrong with me on the visit but it was ordered to rule out some of the more common reasons people have swollen lymph nodes. I followed the doctors recommendation on good faith that this was in my best interest for my personal health. As she instructed me how to find the lab, it never occurred to me that this two-minute routine procedure could be billed at a rate of $807, and that it would not be covered at all under my medical coverage (except for the negotiated rate they save with the hospital as part of being in their "preferred network"). It is beyond my wildest imagination to receive a bill for this sum of money with no consideration of cost; I was not advised or counseled at any point. If it had occurred to me that this most basic and routine service -bloodwork- was anything out of the ordinary, I would have asked those questions. I cannot stress how routine and basic this quality of care is. I went to the doctor and followed a recommendation to get blood work, I went down to the lab 5 minutes away, peed in a cup and had my blood drawn in less than 10 minutes, and I was out the door with an $807 bill without anyone mentioning cost, money or a bill. I cannot state how distressed I am that an STD panel could set me back $650 (what Cigna says I owe of the $807 bill they received for Harborviews bloodwork services). At this financial burden, how can one afford to follow up on routine health recommendations from a doctor? How can people afford health care? How can health care be this broken? It was of no help following up with the hospital staff who tell me that the charges are "valid." I will never return to Harborview Medical Care and will be writing negative reviews for Becky Mounce and Dr. Kathryn Bolles.

To those of you that wrote negative reviews, you probably wouldnt be happy ANYWHERE you decided to go for treatment. I will agree that there are times when it seems like RNs are rude and uncaring but if anyone really thought about how Harborview became the #1 Trauma level 1 hospital in the Seattle area they would realize that it isnt because of the crybabies that go to the ER for a sore throat or stubbed toe etc. Most people are at Harborview for a very serious health problem, ie trauma, cardiac arrest, heart attack (yes I know the difference between cardiac arrest and heart attack and they are NOT the same thing)! So for you crybabies and whiners out there, if you treat the health care workers with respect you will be treated with respect. My husband was a patient at Harborview for 35 days in July-August 2015 due to cardiac arrest. He was DEAD on scene and still DEAD when he arrived at Harborview BUT the MDs and RNs wouldnt give up when he arrived in the ER. They were able to restart his heart and he was on life support in the MCICU for about 2 weeks before it was determined he was well enough to continue his rehab on another floor. EVERYONE from the ICU RNs MDs RTs etc. etc. were very attentive and gracious. They never made us (myself and family) feel that we were a burden or in the way. They answered my questions, made sure I was taken care of, solicited help for me if I was overwhelmed and frightened and made it clear to me that they were there for one purpose....to help my husband and I recover from the horrific event.

On Saturday June 10, 2017 at 3:50pm Van Tran, passed away due to negligence of the Harborview Hospital and their staffs. she had some severe injuries from a fall that landed her in the hospital, but was on the path to recovery. She was a high risk patient and was very frail. This meant she required 24/7 care and attention. However, on the evening of June 9, 2017, our grandma was put in a wheelchair and was left unattended by her nurse(s). That resulted in a face down fall that put her in critical condition and gave her life threatening injuries. How did a recovering elderly woman who was conscious, laughing, eating well, and talking jokingly the day before, end up with such serious injuries after a fall at the very hospital where she was supposed to be cared for? All we know at this moment is that she fell face forward on the ground which caused her to bust her lip, injured her fractures even more, and caused internal bleeding which the doctors were unable to locate; causing her to have breathing complications because there was too much blood in her lungs. After many hours of attempting to find the source of the internal bleeding and suctioning out as much blood in her lungs as possible, she passed away. She fought her way to the very end. Harbor view is not taking immediate action to this which we find appalling. We want JUSTICE for our grandma. Please share this post so that her story gets heard and that we get the Justice we need and deserve
