The first issue we had was when we wanted to get our puppy neutered. Because our dog was a larger breed dog, they suggested we wait until after he was 6 months old. Our dog also had some hip/back leg issues. The vet noticed he had a straight gait at a young age and we would notice some occasional limping. We were told when we got him neutered if the issues still presented they could do x rays while he was sedated. After our discussion about the neuter, we had requested an estimate. They sent we an estimate that was a little over $300 on the low end and a little over $500 on the high end. Our dog was under 6 months when requesting this. Fast forward to our dog being almost 8 months old. Later that day I receive a NEW neuter estimate that is almost TWICE what the original was. No one had told us that it was that much more expensive to wait until after he was 6 months old. After numerous emails and speaking with the clinic manager they were willing to deduct the $75 scrotal ablation, but it was still an outrageous neuter price. We had the x rays taken also. They called to tell us they were sending them over to an orthopedic surgeon they use frequently to review them. Long story short they call us back and tell us the surgeon doesnt believe its a hip problem, but maybe a knee issue and we can either take him for a consult or give him pain medicine as needed. We scheduled the consult and spoke with the surgeon. It turns out after the examination he thought it could hip dysplasia. I then asked what could be done for it. He said nothing except to medically manage it. He stated that had our dog been younger, around the 4 or 5 month age he could have possibly done something, but since he was at his full stature there was nothing more that could be done. I did not push the topic, I was trying to absorb what he was saying and take in our dog needing pain killers for life. After that appointment I had received a call from Odyssey to see if I wanted to fill the pain medications through them. I called back and said yes lets go ahead and do it, but I also wanted to try and understand why x rays werent taken sooner and I was trying to understand what this surgeon was saying so I asked the tech to please ask the vet and get back to me. The vet (Dr. Young) calls me back and instantly has an attitude about the concerns I have and she wants to let me know that she has already called the surgeon and he says he made no such comments and didnt diagnose my dog with hip dysplasia either (even though I have the paperwork at home that says right hip dysplasia) and he spoke about having a good base of x rays to go by for the years to come to see how it progresses. At this point I am beyond upset and she claims to have no idea what I am talking about and goes on about obviously I dont trust them and its probably best we go else where. It is probably best we go else where and we are, but I could not believe how unprofessional she was. I felt like they knew they had maybe waited too long or maybe they werent used to people calling them out or questioning them or maybe they were still upset over the fact that I caught the price difference in the neuter. I am not sure, but I can tell you I have never dealt with anyone in the vet business as rude as her. As far as the orthopedic surgeon, I have yet to get a hold of him, but will and I am having another surgeon go over the print out he gave me with what he thought was wrong with our dog and look at the x rays if I ever get them. They never sent me those with our dogs records. I felt as if the doctor thought I was making this up, but I am not sure where I would have gotten the information if it wasnt the surgeon. This all happened in the same day. I was simply asking a question and they immediately got on the defense. My advice is to stay far away from this place. After talking to other vets this week and finding a new one, I am learning how much they over charge compared to other clinics too. This place is definitely in it for the money.

I would recommend Odyssey to anyone looking for a vet in the Madison area, Im also confused about the negative comments about Dr. Stokes. They get to know you and your pets by name - vets, techs and other staff - and its obvious that they care and take the time with each pet. I adopted a cat that had some issues less than a year ago. The folks at the humane society didnt have her long enough to discover what the former owner did not disclose about her. Essentially, when my now adult cat was a kitten someone had botched her spay. The result was planning my pets surgery to fix the issues. Dr. Stokes followed up with the humane society for me and let me know that they may do the procedure for free, which is not something someone who is only in it to make money would do. When we realized my cat must have been showing symptoms of the issue for some time and that previous owners hadnt addressed them, she was indignant. That indignance was enough for me to want my cat to be at Odyssey for a serious procedure since I knew they cared and would do the best possible job. When a lab test was sent off and then the labs results left something to be desired, I was given a credit for the cost of the lab. Dr. Stokes eventually did the surgery and discovered not only had the spay been botched, but that one of my cats kidneys had been damaged in the process. When debriefing me about what she learned during the procedure, she was again indignant that someone else had done such a poor job with my pet. I was then pleased with the two follow-up calls after the surgery from techs, and another call from Dr. Stokes to check in as well. Ive been really pleased with the courtesy and caring for my pet everyone has shown. I also LOVE their late hours so I can bring in or pick up my cat after work during the week since it can often be hard for me to get away during the day. You wont regret bringing your pets here.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMALS AT ALL, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! If I could give negative stars I would. My dog, is/was need of an urgent care visit, seeing as theyre a vet and I would think that they would be compassionate to the need of an animal well I was deeply wrong. Due to this review they refused care. (I of course got frustrated and defensive) However what is more ludicrous is that while I was talking to a vet tech who was horribly snotty, unprofessional, and Im will to guess an unkind human throughout general life, I request to speak to her manager. She informed me she was the manager. I asked to speak to the owner, which she also said she was. (edit* Im reluctant to believe this.). We were referred to Odyssey originally, and were quite happy in the beginning. However they are horribly pushy with product, and the only thing consistent about their instructions with aftercare, is inconsistency. Im switching back to our old vet which is over an hour drive for us, but the commute is still less of a hassle than reviving poor service and improper care here. Make it easy on yourself and dont start care here when youll just end up needing to go somewhere else to have them fix their mistakes. Edit* As for their response, trust is developed from knowledgeable and competent employees that give consistent, accurate, and responsible care. None of which was provided....If only there was this kind of employee at this establishment. Not a single one to be found, except for the exceptionally nice and responsive receptionist Chelsea. Further more, they are willing to broadcast my behavior (less than favorable is a kind way to put it) but again unwilling to accept any responsibility, personally or as a company.
