I am very disappointed with the service I received at my LAST visit here. I have recently rescued two new dogs, but ones health was of particular concern to me because he has been a stray for months. We got him on Sunday and I called them Monday night to get some info and prices on a heartworm test, fecal test, and a bacterial test to check his ears. I was going to call back to schedule an appt later in the week sometime, but Tuesday morning, I noticed visible worms in his poop and called them immediately after I scooped up the poop and made an appointment for 3pm Tuesday evening. When I brought my dog in, they performed a general evaluation, did the heartworm test, checked for fleas, and gave us medication because he had a double ear infection. They said they had to send the worm infested stool sample out to get tested and they would call me with the results sometime Wednesday. I had SPECIFICALLY mentioned tapeworm to the vet and she asked me if they looked like little pieces of rice to which I responded yes. Now, for everyones knowledge here...stool samples apparently DO NOT test for tapeworm - they test for OTHER parasites and worms - which we were not ONCE told in the exam room from the vet--reminder, that was one of the MAIN reasons I had scheduled that visit when I did. So, they call me Wednesday and tell me that his stool sample was negative. Negative? How was that possible when I had seen the worms myself? I asked the woman on the phone how it could be negative because I saw the worms and again, I STILL wasnt told the test doesnt check for tapeworm. She did not tell me I needed to come in and pick up medication for the tapeworm but that he was negative for everything else. She let me get off the phone thinking that was it. I got home from work, and checked my dogs poop again. WORMS. Now Im getting frustrated, because I physically went through the poop with tweezers-gagging-to pick out 3 worms that I very angrily had to bring BACK to the vet. The receptionist brought them in the back, came out and said yes it was tapeworms and said the techs were getting our medication ready (we have 3 dogs total that could now have tapeworms.) I asked her why the girl on the phone earlier today told me the test was negative (STILL not knowing a fecal doesnt test for tapeworm) and the receptionist, in THAT MOMENT, told me that was the case. When she was checking us out she told me the total of $90 and I said so each dogs meds are $30? Yes. Okay, so do you think you can deduct the $35 fecal test from the total for the inconvenience and misinformation Id had been given this entire time?? No. Well, needless to say we have found another vet. I am truly disappointed in all of staff. I am disappointed in the misinformation I was given. I am disappointed in how things were handled, and I am mostly disappointed in the fact that if I hadnt brought the worms back the 2nd time, my dog would still be infected and passing it back and forth to my other 2 dogs. These people are supposed to be a resource I can depend on as they are the "educated" professionals for the care and safety of my animals and I honestly feel they fell very short of that. I had gone to them with my other dog and had no issues which is why I brought the new one here, but it only takes one time of endangering the welfare of my pets to turn me off forever. So, I would highly recommend going elsewhere for the safety of your babies because I am afraid CARE is not their first priority here. :(

Companion Animal Hospital…let’s see. Where does one start? Well, let’s just start at the beginning. It was 2013. My wife and I rescued Banksy, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, on Sunday, September 25, 2013 from the animal shelter in Racine that was condemned due to “deplorable conditions.” Yes, we essentially rescued him from the rescue. Within a week of his adoption, I took him to see Dr. Christina Benton at Advanced Animal Hospital. I had taken previous pets there years ago and after reading her bio and speaking to her, we felt comfortable that she would be a great fit for us as pet parents, and for Banksy, especially considering his recent experiences. After a few years of returning to see Dr. Benton, she announced she was moving to a sister clinic of Advanced Animal Hospital in New Berlin called Companion Animal Hospital. We of course followed as she is the only doctor to have seen Banksy since we brought him home. But I digress, this is about Companion Animal Hospital. Scheduling conveniently timed appointments, flexibility and communication is what Companion Animal Hospital provide me. Because of my pup’s background, I’m extra careful and attentive to his health. I have gotten more than I could have asked for from Companion Animal Hospital. My appreciation first starts with Dr. Benton, a veterinarian who truly cares. I ask a ton of questions and she is always happy to answer them. The staff at Companion Animal Hospital is just as great. They all treat our family with the utmost kindness and respect. And that matters to us. Between the care and respect we receive at Companion Animal Hospital, in addition to the value of the discounts we’re often made aware of, we could never go anywhere but Companion Animal Hospital. They’re fans of our pup, so we’re fans of theirs.

We used to see Dr. Bendixon here before he retired. After that happened, the new owner purchased the practice and Ive come to understand that he has several facilities that he owns and he staffs with only 1 or 2 vets but rarely works there himself. Because of this, pretty much every appointment weve had here takes a ridiculous amount of time - wait time in the waiting room, wait time for the tech to see you in the little room - then more wait time for the vet to see you in the little room. It is always at least a 2 hour ordeal, and I do not have a dog with special needs or any major medical issues. Im talking about vaccines, minor skin issues, etc. I am totally for small business and entrepreneurship - but service is so important. Full disclosure: the staff vet weve seen here is perfectly nice and I believe she is a good Dr. - she just doesnt have the support she needs I dont think. Either they need to have more than 1 vet there every day (there is always only one there, whenever Ive been there) or space out their appointments more, so they dont get so behind. Its just a time suck. Ive found a new place to go from now on.

I am sad to say, this clinic cares more about money than being fair. After spending approximately $840 in less than a 6 month time span on vet invoices for my 10 year old dog, I asked to return a tick pill that my dog refused to eat. I found it an omen that maybe it was not a good idea to give it to him so I looked it up on google. There are various articles on the tick pill with many reports that older dogs have been dying after taking it. I was then upset that I let the receptionist talk me into getting 2 of the pills. She gave me a refund on the unopened pill but not the one that my dog refused to eat. I paid $25 per pill. The $25 pill they would not refund probably cost them $18 or less. On a side note, the doctor and tech staff were great. Its unfortunate that an uncaring receptionist and the office manager did not value me and my dog. The office manager, who was onsite when I came in and knowing of my valid concerns, did not even come out to talk to me or call me on the phone after I left their clinic. All this says is "We Dont Care"!
