If you have a large and nervous dog, Id think twice before going there. On my first visit, Dr. Williford was cold and not sympathetic at all towards my dog that has been under tremendous stress, and I spent 90 bucks on just some apathetic person telling me to go get a behaviorist. She didnt even suggest one, and when she said that it sounded pretty harsh and out of frustration that my dog struggled and completely freaked out when the technician grabbed him to put a muzzle on. After the struggle he threw up all over the place and passed out! I already explained to her that my dog just came on a long trip from a completely different place, and the city is crazy stressful for him right now, never mind being surrounded by strangers. Having been abused and transported many times, he snaps only under extreme stress, and now that I think about it, the vet should have been more thoughtful and tell me to postpone the surgery, but rather, she just gave me tranquilizer pills and told me to feed it to him before coming in for the surgery in a few days. She even said that she wants to minimize the time he will be in the hospital, making us feel unwelcome. Right now, my dog is depressed and doesnt even want to go outside. If I do a surgery now, for sure it will make his mental condition worse. I really dont think Dr. Williford had a capacity to really empathize with the animal in this case. So I called in to change to Dr. Xanthos, and they were fine with that. She called me back and she sounded more caring (she actually told me to postpone the surgery on the phone). I will write a follow up once the operation is done.

On Friday my brothers eleven year old cat Eva was seriously ill, and my brother was both having his own health problems, and did not know a vet for this cat who was never ill. I located Read Street Animal Hospital and they took us quickly. Dr. Xanthos introduced herself and my immediate impression was of a kind, and compassionate person. After an examination Eva was found to have suffered a cerebral incident and had hours to live. Doctor gave me all the options in a concerned, compassionate, and professional manner. She gave me a room to be alone with Eva as I tried to reach my brother, and then allowed me to be with Eva as she made her way over the Rainbow Bridge. Afterwards, I was allowed to compose myself and spend some time with her. At no time was I rushed to make a decision, or in any way hurried. Although a terrible day, I left knowing the pets and owners who know Dr. Xanthos, and her wonderful staff, are in the best of hands The final bill for services was so reasonable it was another indication this practices prime concern is to make all our little friends healthy, and treatment within the financial means of their owners. We should all have personal doctors who care for us in a similar way.

Dr. Xanthos and her staff are fantastic! Weve been taking our cat here for years but recently had an issue where we discovered a red lump on our cats head a few days before we were supposed to go out of town. The team at reade street was so helpful - they did not have any open appointments but managed to find time to squeeze us in with only a few days notice. The staff was so sweet to us and our cat - the care was fantastic. While the Dr examined his head she walked me through everything she was doing, the possible diagnoses and the different treatment options available. All the while, the nurse was keeping my cat calm, which is no small task. We ended up opting for a single shot treatment that day - rather than medication over the next week - because we were headed out of town and by the time we returned the lump was gone.

i had a really wonderful visit here for the first time yesterday. my cat had suddenly developed unexplained seizures, and after a lifetime of good health i suddenly needed to find him a vet. the first place i called i encountered a dismissive, bored woman with a sarcastic tone, the second, reade st hospital, was warm, friendly, and concerned - a soothing reception to my jangled nerves. in the waiting room there was a very friendly gray cat with pale leaf green eyes and poly toes to keep us company :) we saw dr. amanda oden and she was genuinely caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable as was her assistant. i felt we were in good hands the entire time and though she ended up referring us to a larger animal hospital (my baby needed to see a neurologist) it was such a wonderfully positive visit i cant recommend them enough.

My four cats have been patients of Dr. Xanthos since Reade Street Animal Hospital opened, and I cannot recommend her and her lovely staff more highly. She treated my beloved but poorly elderly cat with such grace and compassion. She shares her extensive knowledge freely and listens thoughtfully to my concerns. Another great quality is that shes cautious about proceeding with any invasive (read expensive) care. Do my cats enjoy their visits? Not particularly, but RSAH makes the experience as painless as possible for pet and owner alike.

Excellent and caring veterinarians and staff. Dr Mary Xanthos was so good with our cat Charly. She was very proactive and went the extra mile, keeping an eye out on him on the weekend and calling us with periodic updates. Our cat Charly had "blocked cat" disease, which if not treated right away is fatal. Dr Xanthos was so good with Charly, it put our mind at ease. She answered all our questions, and you can tell really loves animals. I highly recommend Reade Street Animal Hospital and Dr Mary Xanthos.

My dig had a pretty obvious ear infection and the vet wanted to upsell me on a thyroid evaluation, claiming the thyroid is connected to this somehow. She did the same thing last visit and sold me on a full on health check and my dog is totally healthy! Im all for preventative medicine but they try to oversell me right out of the gate and I walk out with a huge bill.
