I had the worst experiences with the upstate medical doctors, not the hospital itself, (the ER was great thats the only dept that gave me a few tests I needed but said follow up with a non existent dr!) . But the Doctors associated with Upstate Medical are extremely limited, and actually none are available now at all they dont take the insurance or accept new patients a disgrace). Very bad and dont treat and you wait for 3-4 months for an appointment even if you have real medical problems like needing insulin adjusted etc they give you 4 month follow up visits for serious problems . You barely get any treatment at all they fight over who wont do an MRI or MS evaluation, Dr. Lubna Wani the worst ever and they dont have any Doctors that take new patients, its a disgrace, and the Neurology Dept ( a fellow student Dr I got I cant think of her name, terrible dept., who doent know anything and isnt supervised at all there), neither want to order the right tests, they wont give MRI for severe muscle weakness and wasting, they wont do urinalysis , they do CT Scans only when You tell them but I was double dosed already for CT scans and dont want more Ive had 47 years worth of radiation already and they want to do more CT scans for an "undertermined mass" the report recommended an MRI to follow up and the Dr refuses to do that , and the same with the neurology dept is just a joke that refuses to work people up for MS and do proper tests and misdiagnosis it totally without an evaluation or workup, calls it some simple sciatica, instead of the chronic condition they ignored, and serious too if someone cant walk, they get ignored, instead of doing in depth evaluations the pass you over and call it some simple & wrong diagnosis, without even proper tests. What a joke the neurolgy dept is at 90 Presidentail plaza and that Dr Lubna Wani at Harrison St shes the head internist what a disgrace ,horrid Dr she is terrible doesnt want to treat at all and is a nasty person.. and if you complain to the patient relations they do nothing at all. They have no doctors available who take new patients, yet they get subsidies from the government and are using the funds incorrectly to not treat the poor, or to provide adequate healthcare to all, they treat people in the ER like dogs if they are still not treated correctly and have to return to the ER they tell them to leave or theyll call the cops on them for returning to the ER!! I saw them. I have serious medical conditions and barely got any treatment or follow up studies.. essentially inadequate treatment and or none. Joslin is a joke they dont have enough Doctors, they limit the care to every 6 months even to adjust the insulin!!!! and you cant even get thru on the phone to get a follow up appointment!, and the amount of time they limit you to ridiculous lack of Pt education etc. even if you tell them your feet are like falling off and numb and painful! and the Insulin isnt working! Dr Lubna Wani the head internist is a nightmare.. etc etc terrible lack of doctors and care very inadequate

This hospital is awful! I had a car accident. Driver crashed in to my husband and I while we were stopped at a red light. Due to the impact I broke my neck and I have a brain bleed (had to go to other hospital for diagnosis). At upstate I had 11 pseudoseizures. Upstate sent me home with a recommendation for Tylenol and a spinal surgeon referral. I as well as my husband kept staying my head was throbbing. They did nothing to address that matter. When they discharged me my husband refused to have me leave because I was still seizing. The nurse smacked me in my face several times to get me out of a seizure (everything was video recorded on my husbands phone). They kicked me out of hospital and left me seizing in parking lot of er in the rain on concrete with my husband panicking. Thankfully 911 transported us to the V.A. where a CT scan confirmed a brain bleed and a mri confirmed a broken next seventh vertebrae. I am in the process of suing upstate for medical malpractice. If you want to live and be taken care of I suggest you stare clear of this hospital.

My 13 yr old daughter was sent here by ambulance after she fell 18ft out of a tree... apparently at her age and that height, it is classified as "possible trauma" (even though she appeared perfectly fine with the exception of her wrist hurting). The good: the staff was friendly and when I asked if there were nearby snack machines, they offered my daughter food from the pantry. The bad: unfortunately the pediatric emergency room personnel didnt do any of the tests we were told they would. Anytime I asked something of the desk staff, one member in particular had to look up from playing candy crush on her cell phone. The ortho who set her broken wrist didnt offer any pain meds, nor did anyone else (granted they offered her ibuprofen an hour before they even knew her wrist was broken). After I requested meds, it still took 1 hour to get them - meanwhile she was in excruciating pain. The pain meds were finally administered as I was signing her release papers. I expected more/better.

I have nothing but good things to say. I have been to this hospital multiple times for multiple different things. My cousin was hit by a truck, was barely clinging to life and they saved him. My son has had surgery here. My daughter was treated for meningitis when she was 2 weeks old.. Nothing but good! Staff is very helpful and doctors take the time to sit with you and make sure you understand everything you need to and they address your questions. The nurses have GREAT bedside manner. +++++

Really fantastic and fresh seafood. We had the happy hour special (oysters + beer), clams, sea urchin + toast points, ceviche, main course of scallops and the mussels/fettuccine. No desert but they gave us a small dish of tasty pound cake which we enjoyed. Oysters, clams- so fresh! The two apps- good and fun to try, but will be trying other things next time. Really enjoyed both entrees :). Satiating. Tasty, filling, hits the spot type of food. Love it and will be back :)

Recently had a lumbar laminectomy at Upstate, and I am completely floored by how wonderful the whole experience was. From surgeon to housekeeping, everyone was super helpful and polite. I did get a little tude from a lady who was bringing me food one evening, but that is the extent of my displeasure. I would absolutely, and without question, recommend this hospital for in-patient surgical procedures.

They dont answer the phone. When they do they can t answer your question so they promise someone will call you back but they do not call. Call neurology again and person answering call cannot answer question. Again she will leave a note for Neurology to call me. Still waiting!!
