I recently had a family member there in a semi-private room. The person in the other bed needed to go to the bathroom. I went on a hunt for someone to come in. Nurse was on the phone and tech was sitting beside her and did not acknowledge I was there until I said "HELLO". I told her the lady needed to potty and she said someone will be in there. 10 min later someone showed up. Then she was left on a bedpan for an hour. She finally asked me to empty it, which I did. I went to find a nurse to let them know the tech had not been in there. At some point during this I had to ask the tech to empty the foley cath on my family member because it was about to overflow. On top of all of that I had to spend the night and the only chairs in the room were straight back chairs and they told me the comfy chairs were on the 2nd floor, which might have been nice if we were on the 2nd floor. AND...I needed to work but couldnt, because their wifi was having problems and they would have to put in a work order but it would be Monday before they were able to have anything done about it. The following night there was a respiratory therapist that came in to give a breathing treatment wearing perfume (no joke. She even told the patient in the other bed what kind it was). And to top the cake, there was a HIPAA violation that I brought to the charge nurses attention who didnt seem concerned at all until I asked for the House Supervisor, who then actually listened, witnessed the violation, and was concerned (rightfully so). Never again...

To be as honest as possible- The ER Doctor tried the catheterize me When there was no need. The doctors had no communication with each other . The gentlemanin the bed was crying in pain all night for 4 day the doctor could not treat his blood clots and his testicals were as big as a melon . The doctors told him to go home and in three months the swelling would go down , WOW His family then got him down to UAB and that evening he called me with joy and they had a plan the next day he was having surgery and the somehow would bust up the clots and trap them through a filter and about a week recovery and he should be able to walk ! Meanwhile for me they had no clue my back hurt bad and my legs would not work I went on to Vanderbilt were they found out my hip was displaced and was trapping parts of my spine ! well in a few short weeks Ill be on my feet in the mean time there trying to figure how this happened . IFyi my wifes brother had gone there 5 years ago and within a week he ended up with a blood disease , he never fully got 100% he past away from an blot clot to his brain Rest in piece BO So even though the nurse staff was good the rest was NOT ! Good luck to you all and I pray you never have got to go to this place

Would have been a 1 star review if not for the nurses and the nurse practitioner. Spent 3 hours in the ER with a life threatening disease only to be ushered to the back and stuck in a bed for another hour. We would have never even seen the ER doctor if we hadnt asked the nurse practitioner, and once we did see him, he glossed over the actual problem and focused on a scar that was several years old. On the up side, the nurses did push us ahead of a few people because wed started losing feeling in the leg that was the problem. And the nurse practitioner was fantastic. She explained everything to us and made us understand exactly what was going on.

My wife was in Decatur General West for adjustment of her medicine to treat bipolar disorder. She recieved virtually no treatment at all for a week. The ward was coed and there was someone pretending to be a vampire kissing womens neck. He hissed at my wife. No one did anything. No one listened. The doctor released my wife because she was getting worse. We had to go to the Woodlands where she recieved proper care. I wouldnt send a human there and I wouldnt send a dog there because there are good vets that would offer better treatment. I am not alone. Dont go there.

Staff receives higher stars, but the hospital management gets 0 stars. Never received a bill because they sent to wrong address, I have been in several times with kids but for this bill they sent to the wrong city - same street address, return mail, never raised a flag to check the records and see what may have been wrong. Was turned over to credit collections without ever having received a bill or talking to anyone. Paid bill and 6 months later still dealing with collections wanting money for a bill that was paid in full at the time I received notification.

My husband had a pulmonary function test done on the 20.of April because of shortness of breath. After 6 weeks I called to ask for results so my husband can get treated adequately and I was informed the test was not read yet by the responsible doctor assigned to do it. Now this doctor is on leave. It is unprofessional and irresponsible to have a patient waiting for results for so long and subsequently not getting necessary treatments in a timely manner. Im very disappointed about the disregard this doctor shows.

My grandma has been waiting since 1pm and hasnt seen a doctor yet. They called an orthopaedic surgeon who apparently is going to do surgery on her broken wrist. We live an hour away, so our family is concerned, and it took going through a third party to find this out--even though my mother is her power of attorney. My other grandma died at this emergency room, so Im giving it a star, in her memory and in hopes no more grandmas have to suffer. SHUT IT DOWN.

Nothing. This is the second and last time I use the ER at Decatur Morgan Parkway Campus. They admitted me quickly but kept us waiting in an exam room for over an hour before anyone saw us. Communication with the doctor was non-existant. I asked the nurse about the antibiotics the doctor said I needed and she took over 30 minutes to ask him. She said it was difficult to communicate with him. If his nurse cant talk to him, I havent got a chance.

Worst experience of my life. I was seen and told I had 5 kidney stones that were sick in my kidney. I got nothing for pain the whole 4 hours I was there until rite before I left. They gave me a Norco 7.5 and a shot of Rocephen. I dunno why I got the shot cauz they accessed my port and then did nothing with it. Horrible hospital. Ill go to UAB from now on every since Huntsville bought them the care and staff have gone down tremendously.

They "lost" my prescriptions at discharge. Then they refused to reprint them. They diagnose me with an infection in my surgical wounds and tell me how important it is that I start my meds and then lose them and refuse to reprint them after 4 different excuses as to where they were. How am I supposed to treat my infection? I had to go to Madison ER the same night to be seen again. Guess what Decatur ER can do with their bill?
