I really feel that these bad reviews are unwarranted. I have been going here for five or six years. I like Dr. Chung particularly, he is very thorough, and does a great job with my contact lenses. I had never worn contacts before so it took some trial and error to find find a brand that worked with my astigmatism. He was very patient changing the samples out several times to get it right. I have not gotten glasses here so I cant speak to that. The office staff has always been adequate, although the system is still pencil and paper. The only problem I have had is in making appointments, since they dont use a computerized system it can be hard to find a date and time that suits me. However, they always get my lenses in a timely manner. Its not cheap, thats true, but I have not found any hidden charges. Dr. Chung is excellent and I like the practice, I come from Oakland to go here.

I joined the Berkely Optometric Group because I had recently gotten VSP insurance. The group looked great and the doctor looked trustworthy. Although my actual exam was very comprehensive and the doctor was professional, the office is run terribly. Nobody ever knows who I am when I call, they can never find my chart and they never call me to pick up my contacts. I have been given conflicting information repeatedly and even when I call to let them know I am picking something up they dont communicate to eachother and I"m forced to wait. I was forced to wait for my appointment for an hour and a regular half hour visit ended up taking me two hours. These people are terrible. I would reccomend going somewhere else.

"i just went to get my contact lense perscription renewed and was quoted one price on the phone ($40-$90) for a contact fitting, one price by doctor chin ($80) to re-measure my eyes, and then a COMPLETELY other price ($189) by the receptionist when i went to pay my bill. asked why the price difference, the receptionist girl said, since i was a new patient, it constitutes a new eye exam @ $129 and then a contact "replacement" @ $60 which equals $189. asked why wasnt i told this before, the answer was, "i guess we should have been clearer with you". no apologies was given. wow i would look somewhere else if this place cant even get their pricing right after having a NEW PATIENT ask them multiple times."

I went to Berkeley Optometric Group for an exam and new glasses. The OD spent an hour doing a thorough exam. She answered all my questions in as much detail as I requested. Minimal wait in the lobby, very professional and courteous! My experience was the opposite of that suggested by Bob S. & Andie. I can barely stand the wait for my next exam...

I like the doctors. I agree that the office is a bit disorganized, and the paper charts do not inspire confidence. However, Ive gotten good service here. When I brought my two four year-olds in for an eye exam, the office staff was extremely patient with us.

Ive been seeing Dr. Chun for many years, and his exams are always thorough and his prescriptions always accurate. Friendly staff as well. Hes by far the best optometrist Ive ever been to.

Do not order your contacts through them. We have been running back and forth and they still dont have them in stock. Less frustrating to go with 800contacts or other online service.
