THE OCCIDENTAL VET HOSPITAL WAS VERY INFORMATIVE BUT VERY EXPENSIVE MY CAT HAD A URINARY BLOCKAGE AND I NO THAT IT HAPPENS IN MALE CATS OFTEN THEY DID GIVE HIM ALL THE NECESSARY EMERGY TREATMEBT THAT WAS 300.$ ALL THAT I HAD WE THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH ALTHOGH THEY SOMETIMES HAVE A BLOCKAGE IN THEIR BLADER SO IT WAS TO HAVE SURGERY WHICH I COULD NOT AFFORD AND ONE THING ABOUT THIS PLACE THEY DO NOT GIVE CREDIT EVEN IF YOU HAVE TAKEN YOUR ANIMAL THERE FOR OTHER THINGS IT WAS SAD BUT I COULDNT PUT HER DOWN WHAT COULD I DO ? BUT THE RECEPTIONIST NEW SOMEONE WHO WAS LOOSING A CAT19 YRS OLD AND SAID THEY HE WOULD ALMOST 99% ADOPT AND PAY THE EXPENSIVE SURGERY BEING BROKE I AGREED AS THE MAN WOULD LOVE MY CAT AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT . MY ONLY HURTFUL PART TO THIS STORY IS I ONLY AGREED BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD THE MONEY I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY DOG IN AGAIN WHEN THE RECEPTIONIST SAID I OWED REMAINDER BALANCE I EXSPLAINED AND SHE MADE ME FEEL AS IF I DIDNT CARE ABOUT MY CAT AND I JUST CUT AND RAN AS THE DR PUT IT .I GAVE MY CAT UP BECAUSE I LOVED MY CAT AND GAVE IT AWAY SO IT WOULD LIVE A HAPPY LIFE WITH A LOVING OWNER. AND IT TOOK THE REMAINDER OF CASH MONEY I HAD . I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN FOR MAKING ME FEEL THAT I WOULDNT DO ANYTHING MORE FOR MY ANIMALS .THEY TORE THE URITHRA WHEN THE CATHERIZED HIM I AM NOT A DR BUT I THINKTHEY WERE ALITTLE HEARTLESS AND I NEVER HEARD IF MY CAT MADE IT AND HE IS WELL AND ALIVE AS SHE PROMISED. TO SAY I CUT AND RANBECAUSE I COULDNT AFORD A OPERATION IS OBSURD AND RUDE ,I ENDED UP TAKING MY DOG TO GUENEVILLE CLINIC WERE I WAS PLEASENTLY SURPRISED THAT THE NEW VET IS REASONABLE KIND AND PATIENT EDDIE IS RETIRED AND HOPEFULLY ON SOME BREACH WITH AN UMBRELLA GOOD LUCK ED TAKE YOUR CHANCES? THERE ARE 2 DR AND I WOULD RECOMEND THE MALE DR. NOT SAYING THEY ARE NOT GOOD DR, BUT NOT VERY UNDERSTANDING EVERYONE HAS BILLS .HOPEFULLY THEY WILL NEVER HAVE TO BE IN MY POSITION!

This is by far the most caring, down to earth and uplifting vet I have ever been to. After moving here from New York my cat Sasha got a disease called Feline Stomatitis. She had to have all but her front teeth removed and leading up to the procedure I was having nightmares about what her life would be like afterwards. Dr Lane and the staff here treated Sasha as if she were their own cat. They called us a few days afterwards to see how she was doing and remember her and my other cat Thompson every time I come in. Ive worked in customer service jobs my whole life And know how hard it can be to please everyone that walks through your door... I can only imagine how that must be when their pet is in pain and they just want you to fix it. Not to mention the fees. I told Dr Lane how Broke I was after moving here and she didnt miss a beat in cutting things off the bill that my cat really didnt need. Ive had many vets in and out of my life and NEVER before this can I say that Ive looked forward to going to them. This place is special. Something to be cherished in a small community where people remember one another and THEY remember your pet. Genuine is the word that best describes every employee Ive met here. And Dr Lane puts you at ease the moment she walks through the door. Im moving further away soon but wont be changing Vets anywhere in the near future!

Same issue as the review below. Just one example... I asked for a refill of my dogs heartworm pills and was told I could not purchase them without a full blood test. The dog has been on heartworm meds without interruption and I had blood works done when I got them 12 months earlier, so I declined a new blood test. Dr. Graff explained they recommend another test because there is still some risk... I thank him for the advisement and again decline. (The way it has happened countless times with my prior vets... they recommend the best option, you make the choice based on what you can/choose to pay for.) This is when the conversation turns awkward. He now tells me that I really must get the blood works, because "Dr. Lane sleeps better at night" knowing the test is done (I sleep better at night knowing I wasnt forced to pay for services I did not choose), and I realize theyre truly not going to sell me the pills without a new blood test at every refill. Seriously? Youd think I was depriving a child from cancer treatment. Other than being so obviously greedy, its just disrespectful to clients not to let them make these simple decisions every other vet lets them make. You guys are great vets... please dont stoop to this level of money grabbing.

I love Dr Lane, and so do both by cats. Thanks to her experience and her honesty, she will "tell it like it is" and will not only advise you to provide the best of care for your pets, but you will know why you are doing what you are doing! Dr Lane is a straight shooter who leaves no doubt in my mind or questions unanswered. I love the fact that she has made me a more knowledgeable and active participant in my cats care. She always explains why she suggests what she does and you are never left with the feeling that you have been bombarded with big words in order to be made to spend more money. My elderly aunt has also consulted with Dr Lane about her senior cat, who had previously been misdiagnosed and put through useless and expensive treatments. Dr Lane quickly found anemia to be the culprit, had the proper tests ran and Aero is now being treated appropriately. I recommend Dr Lane without hesitation.

I would love to patronize locally owned, small businesses but when its clear the owners are only out for themselves I have a very hard time doing this. I have taken my dogs to Occidental Vet many times over the years and recently had a need for a prescription for simple flea medication, a medication that has been prescribed for both dogs by this vet in the past. I was appalled by the fact that the vet wouldnt provide this prescription without charging me for a full check-up when the dogs werent due any shots/check-ups for another 4 months. So, I guess the vet would rather have me buy the medication from a questionable online source rather than provide a prescription to ensure the animal has the care it needs, pretty sad. Analy vet, who has also seen these dogs in the past, was happy to write the prescription. At Occidental Vet the client doesnt come first, the vets wallet comes first.

Dr. Lane and all the staff are great. Very kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Dr. Lane did some major surgery on my pit last year, and probably bought him a few more years to live... After terrible experiences at Forestville VCA and at the Guerneville Vet, I would recommend Occidental Vet to anyone in the area.

Very unprofessional and greedy operation that looks for reasons to add more services to bill you. They also "fired" us as customers with no explanation...what??! Analy is a much better vet with more doctors and support staff and run their business with integrity at a good value. Sad for Occidental.
