When I first met Dr. Gina Nelson I thought I had finally found a doctor who was willing to learn and treat my rare condition. I was wrong. My disease can come on without any warning and I did tell her I may miss appointments because I get nervous or excited to see the doctor…thus causing an episode. I was in the Emergency Department and the doctors wanted approval from my Primary Care Physician to give me the medication I needed to abort an active episode because this episode was nonstop! The ER Doctor called Dr. Gina Nelson for approval and she told them that I missed two appointments with her office so I am no longer a patient of hers. Gina Nelson refused to approve the medication I so badly needed at the time of my episode. I was in the middle of a non-stop month long episode that doctors could not stop. I was in so much pain. I asked that they sedate me so I didn’t have to deal with the pain. Since my episode was NOT aborted correctly I was in the ER the next day vomiting acid and bile nonstop. While ACTIVELY having an episode I went to a doctor I used to see for the disease and he told me it was absolutely unethical for “Doctor” Gina Nelson to refuse approving my treatment just because I missed two appointments. He created my treatment plan in 10 minutes, signed off on it and sent me to the ER to abort my episode correctly and to be treated for dehydration. “Doctor” Gina Nelson doesn’t care about helping people with diseases she does not understand, she is also not willing to learn about the disease. I gave her a whole binder full of information about my disease, an entire copy of my medical record as well….she was still clueless about the disease and failed to provide care to a patient who was in desperate pain all because I missed two appointments. I feel Gina Nelson chose the wrong field of work if she is unwilling/unable to be bothered to learn about a rare disease a patient of hers has, I also question her integrity and moral ethics as a doctor to let her patient that SHE KNOWS HAS THE DISEASE suffer in excruciating pain like that. Completely unacceptable for a medical professional. My disease is not old…it’s been around since 1882, it is just so rare that hardly any doctors will treat it and there is no cure; just symptom and stress management. For me, I vomit until I throw up acid, bile, and even blood if it gets too bad. My symptoms can escalate to the point that my blood pressure goes sky high, my potassium levels drop so low it’s possible to go into cardiac arrest and I am in excruciating abdominal pain. I have been tested for everything under the sun…every doctor I try to see for symptom management and diet outlines they look at me as if I am making this disease up ….so much to the point I am explaining to the doctor what the disease is, how long it’s been around, the physiology of it, what causes it, and what the symptoms are…..I am consistently educating medical doctors who should be doing their own research on the disease…..especially if you are treating a patient with the disease.

I have gone to this family practice since I was a toddler, and used to see Dr. Kchiavsky (sp?). He was an amazing doctor with excellent bedside manner. I married in 2012 and moved up North though, so I havent been to this location for awhile. I called yesterday hoping to get in because I thought I had strep and needed antibiotics, and luckily they could see me. I was told that my records had been deleted since I havent been there in a few years though so I needed to come in to fill new patient paperwork. That was sad to hear since Ive been attending this practice for well over twenty years. Oh well. I arrived early. Reception was decent. Wait time was average. Was brought back to be seen and the lady seeing me did a very basic evaluation. She did order a strep test and culture though (which came back negative). Since I have been sick for three weeks though, she prescribed antibiotics anyways, just to be safe. I was appreciative of that since I know there must be some type of infection, since Ive been hacking up green mucus for a couple weeks now and I have a lump on my neck the size of a grape. Overall, the staff was pretty nice, but I cant say I felt like they cared about me. I felt like they wanted to spend as little time with me as possible, as one individual was excusing me to leave before my strep test results were even done. I also wish the lady seeing me would have been a doctor, as I had bigger concerns than strep. I didnt bring them up because I doubted her experience. Anyways, I dont think Ill be going here anymore. I didnt get the same care I used to seeing Dr. K. It just isnt the same. I also wasnt happy to be leaving without a diagnosis. The strep test was negative, so what do I have? Why have I been sick for three weeks? Wish my $130 would have gotten me more than a prescription for amoxicillin. I hope the antibiotics work, and that these lumps on my neck and on the roof of my mouth go away. If they dont, I know Ill be getting checked somewhere else.

The medical staff is nice enough. Efficient; even when the physician doesnt relay the correct information. They cant keep a good physician in the office to save their lives. Dont bother learning names- they leave as soon as you see them. Ive been going here annually since 2013 for a physical and I really dont know why. My first visit was with Dr. Gray. I really wish I knew where he went. He was an awesome physician. Answered all my questions with confidence and even prompted me to ask more questions. Ever since this office moved to Parfet St they have become shadier and shadier. They share a building with a PI lawyers office and an injury treatment center. This is not something to be advertising. It feels sleazy. My last physical was the most rushed doctors appointment Ive ever had. I get it; its a physical. Very standard stuff. However, I got a bill for $100 for a physical and an extra office visit. Called their billing office who told me its not their call to make changes or set the codes. Spoke with the clinic manager and was told that the "PA" (I was told she was a nurse so Im not sure who the hell I saw) who did the physical spent a lot of time with me answering questions, ordering labs, and giving a referral to their in-house dietitian (that I did not ask for nor did I follow-up with) constituted another 15 minute doctors office visit. Last I checked, things like that were part of a physical. Thats when you talk to your physician about medical concerns, have labs ordered, or receive referrals. The office managers excuse made no sense. ("We just put in into a system that generates the codes; everyone does it like this." Not true.) There is no way Im paying this bill or returning to this clinic. If you want to be overcharged for rushed care that you wont feel confident in; be my guest.

Ive gone here before and had no issues and actually was happy I found a good place to go to after recently moving to Lakewood. This time when I went in recently, I am in between jobs and dont have insurance yet. When I talked to the lady earlier on the phone in the day before my appointment, she mentioned that my old insurance didnt go through, but didnt inform me on anything about if I didnt have insurance. She assumed I just had a new insurance. I also asked her if I could come in early for my appointment since I couldnt get one earlier in the day and was in serious discomfort. She informed me that I could and they would get to me as soon as possible and in line of the patients that came in. I got to my appointment half an hour early. At this time I was informed that I had to pay over $100 to even be seen my the doctor and I cant be billed due to their new policy that I had no idea about. At the time I just paid it, but they I had to sit there another 30 min till my actually appointment time, and then continued to sit there for another 30 minutes past my appointment time. While sitting there, I watched many patients go in before me. Patients that were even late for their own appointment, a lady that walked in for a splinter in her finger, and many more. After sitting an hour and paying so much, I basically had a 2 minute appointment. I knew what I was going in for, got my vitals done, and asked a few questions by the doctors and then I was done. I sat for an HOUR and paid OVER 100 for a 3 minute appointment. Im a nursing student and seeing acts like this going on and some patients that take priority over others isnt right. I dont know what has changed in the months that I have been here previously, but I am not sure if I would choose to go back here.
