Our 8 week old puppy “Foster” fell very ill over the Holidays, he was coughing/vomiting/lethargic and congested. I took him to the 24 hour Vet Hospital, but all we received was a long wait, no answers and a huge bill. He got worse through the night-so I did some research on the local Animal Hospitals/vets near our house and Coal Mine Animal Hospital had rave reviews. I reached out via email. I was impressed because, they called me the next morning, just as they were opening and said bring him in—they were booked, but they would squeeze him in. Our pup was initially diagnosed/treated for Parvo & Distemper. He was admitted immediately and treated for his dehydration and onset symptoms- due to the severity of these particular viruses, Foster had to be kept in isolation. I can’t tell you how helpful the staff and everyone was—they comforted Foster and ME. They allowed us to visit Foster each night. They brought in someone to come in late night, after they closed to check on him. When he wasn’t eating—they went and bought Chicken to see if he would eat that. When we were able to bring him home, they still called to check up on him. I couldn’t have asked for better vets and staff to care for our little pup. I can say now that Foster did NOT have Distemper or Parvo. He’s 100% better, a happy energetic 13 week old puppy. When we bring him in, everyone at CMAH wants to see him, and he gets very happy to see them. When he arrives and sees Sarah, Dr.Runkle & Dr.Levy- he goes CRAZY (it may be, because they spoil him with treats) They are now our GO TO VETS. We love CMAH!

I have trusted Doctors Runkle and Levy of Coal Mine Animal Hospital since their clinic opened. Before that, they were both doctors for my animals at a facility owned by someone else. I have found both women to be excellent, caring vets of the highest medical quality. They are respectful of an owners right to chose while still protecting the rights of that pet. In times of loss and grief they each take the time to care and support clients through this process. I have found each very conscious of options and costs when helping to assess the care of my animals whether they are dogs, cats, or Guinea Pigs . Having an ill, special needs, or rescue animal is extremely demanding and emotional. Each doctor takes the time to to inform, educate and make thoughtful, clinical recommendations. The supporting staff at Coal Mine is just as excellent as the doctors. All are wonderful, however Daren, Mary, and April have been the staff members who have been most integral to my interactions with the hospital. I highly recommend Coal Mine Animal Hospital to any pet owner in need of superior veterinary care. Elyse Hughes

We came to Coal Mine Animal Hospital because they were part of the network of veterinarians recommended by Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue when we adopted our lab/husky, Koda. I really didnt want to change from the vet in Denver that had taken care of my pets for almost 30 years, but they were a half hour away and it just didnt make sense with this new pup. We had a good experience with CMAH for the 1st year of shots and the things young dogs do that you wind up seeing your vet for. Then, 10 minutes after we left the appointment for her 1st annual exam, the office called to say her blood test for heartworm had come back with a strong positive result and we needed to turn around so they could take another sample to send to a lab for confirmation. It was confirmed, and so began the 9 month process of heartworm treatment. The treatment details arent important here. What is important was how supportive Dr. Levy and the entire staff at CMAH were for that entire time and how excellent the care was they provided for Koda. On her annual exam a few weeks ago, Koda was pronounced heartworm free. We are so grateful.

I have had 4 rescue dogs in my life, and thankfully have always had wonderful vets for them, no matter where I have lived. I adopted a dog last minute on a friday night, called this place Monday morning, assuming it may take a while to get my dog in for a well puppy visit (which was gratis since I rescued the dog from Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue), and they got me in the same day! During the appointment, the vet actually taught me several new things for how to help this dog settle in, and she was very in tune to his needs. I never would have thought, that as a long time rescue dog owner, that I would have learned something during a routine well visit. The support staff was incredibly friendly and caring as well. I also received a phone call the next day to see how to dog was doing, and that has never ever happened for me after a well visit. I would definitely recommend this place to other people!

My dogs have all seen Dr. Runkle for years. We love her so much we followed her here when she and Dr. Levy opened Coal Mine Hospital. I moved to the other side of town and now drive over 15 miles each way to come here, but I am that pleased. If I could speak for my dogs they would all say how much they love her. They always get excited (not scared) to come here and believe me, one of our dogs is as neurotic as they come. Even she likes Dr. Runkle:) All of the staff is excellent and good handling both our large and small dogs. Dr. Runkle will always return calls as promised and has even taken time to answer phone calls when something weird has come up with our pets. The few times Dr. Runkle hasnt been available Dr. Levy has given great care also. My daughter and sister take their pets here too and all of us are equally pleased.

We had two encounters with Coal Mine Animal Hospital, CMAH. Both were for two guinea pigs. For one, Nibbles, we worked with Dr. Runkle and determined the best course of action was to euthanize him. The decision was not made lightly. He was not doing well and we wanted to ease his suffering. Guinea Pigs are notorious for not recovering well. The second was for Coffee. In Coffee’s case, he had stopped eating and drinking, not good. Dr. Runkle prescribed two medications and also worked us to feed Coffee using a syringe. Coffee is doing fine now with Dr. Runkle’s help. One thing that impressed me was that CMAH called to check up on Coffee and follow his recovery process. I would highly recommend CMAH!

I was referred to Coal Mine Animal Hospital during an emergency with our Border Collie- Ben as our regular vet was not in. Coal Mine Animal Hospital was able to get Ben in ASAP, they took excellent care of him and started initial assessments of him. As it was Labor Day Weekend we were transferred to a 24hr Animal ER. Unfortunately Ben did not make it but Coal Mine Animal Hospital kept tabs on Ben through out the entire experience. The most touching moment was when after they learned of Bens passing we received a condolence card in the mail. The staff REALLY cares about their animals and their owners. I would highly recommend this office to any one and it is now our regular vet.
