Although I have been an "insured" patient of Yale-New Haven Hospital for decades, lately I have lost healthcare coverage. I went to the Yale Emergency Clinic in Guilford yesterday to seek answers for a growing (and agonizing) pain on the right side of my lower back and leg. During registration, once they found out that I did not have insurance, the tone of contact with the staff made a remarkable shift...suddenly I was treated like an unwanted burden. Even though I told them that walking was agony, did they offer a wheelchair? No, they made me walk around the inner clinic (noting 9 of the bays were empty), and then down a remote hallway to a stark room away from everyone. When I was finally seen, it was not by a doctor, rather a physicians assistant. That is OK to start, since background information would be vital to the doctors diagnosis anyway. I told him that I was a diabetic without insulin for more than 3 months and that the last time I checked my blood sugar it was in excess of 450. Did he request an immediate blood test? No. Even after I showed him a bleeding pressure ulcer on the stump of my trans-metatarsal amputated foot, he treated me like a distraction. After a very brief physical exam he declared that I have a sciatic nerve pinch, offered some pain medication, and sent me on my way! At no time did I get a chance to speak to a REAL doctor. It was one of the most humiliated experiences of my adult life. If you have a choice, do NOT go to the Yale Emergency Clinic in Guilford.

My husband had the worst experience here ever.... went in with migraine, he gets them very bad. Dr gives a mix that usually takes the pain away and it didnt work. I specifically told them NO COMPAZINE makes him feel very anxious. They did 2 rounds of first meds and nothing so they figure lets get him so anxious he would leave us alone and they did just that. I had to deal with him and his horrendous reaction to those meds. I went back in an hour later because he couldnt take it anymore and they had us in a room for an hour and not even a nurse came in. They where all laughing and chatting together at the nurses station saying he was next..... we where so upset we just left. Now if my husband would have done something to himself, whos fault would that be then???? Oh i know they would be quick to say not them but yes it would. "Shoreline sucks big time" Rather try a diff ER even if I have to drive a half hour. Worst staff ever I give them 1 star because I cant put none but its truly NO STARS!!!

I did not have a good experience at all. I was in a lot of pain and went there to try to find out what was wrong. They did tests and told me what I already knew. The solution was pain killers just lovely. I still am in a lot of pain seeing other doctors and what do they care... they dont, yale will just send me this huge bill in the mail to charge me for absolutely worst experience. I do not recommend anyone go.

The people were very nice, but that is where it ends. Several important steps were missed during cleaning a wound and I needed to bring my daughter to the doctors the next day to have it reopened.

I went in for an emergency problem last evening. They did a very professional job and I am delighted with the outcome. They were courteous and quick in their response.

Better than taking your loved one to a home-based, holistic healer in an an emergency... ...But not much better.
