Dr. Cardenas is probably a decent Doctor. Specially if you are all for inductions and C Sections and unnecessary interventions, not so much with having a natural birth. I admit I cant have too much of a strong opinion on him as a Doctor because I truly didnt give him much of a chance. After my first visit, I knew he wasnt the doctor for me, this is in part because of his staff and affiliations. But before I get to that, let me mention my limited observations on him. Hes kind, smart. Took his time to answer questions and ask questions. I want a natural birth. I told him that I do not want a C-Section or to be artificially induced, unless it was TRULY medically necessary. Anyone that does a little research will learn that many doctors in Miami are pushing for unnecessary interventions at the time of labor to convenience their own schedule and to eliminate liability that comes with natural births, because Miami is almost at a 50% C Section rate. So as a first time mom, I was truly trying to figure out if he wouldnt be the kind of Doctor that would scare me into unnecessary interventions when the time comes. After expressing my concerns, he told me he delivers at Mercy hospital and at the new Miami Medical Center. He specifically recommended the Miami Medical Center. I toured them both immediately. My husband and I LOVED the Miami Medical Center. If you dont care for natural births I definitely recommend you check it out. However, the very kind nurse that gave us the tour was very honest when answering our questions. She told us that basically EVERYONE who gives birth there is scheduled either for a C Section or an induction. That it is VERY rare for them to receive "walkins" aka women who walk in already in labor. To me this was a big red flag. My doctor delivers here, and all patients are either induced or Csectioned. What are the chances that I will be allowed to labor naturally? My second red flag was that I asked the doctor if he did delayed cord clamping. He said he didnt, he did "cord milking" instead, and he explained why its better. Maybe he really does cord milking, but only upon request, because the only birth I was able to see on his facebook page (hes a celebrity) he cut that cord so fast without doing anything to it. Third red flag... he reviewed all my medical records that I brought with me, noticed I am having a pretty healthy and low risk pregnancy THANK GOD, and he reviewed my very recent 20-week OB Ultrasound (a quite expensive test that insurances only cover within certain weeks of your pregnancy if at all). He wrote me a prescription to repeat the Ultrasound. NOT because there was anything wrong on it, just because "he trusts his techs more." Hows that for an unnecessary intervention. When I arrived for my first visit, I waited about an hour prior to seeing him. Within that hour, I was almost rescheduled after taking time off work and driving all the way to Doral from Brickell. The young lady up front told me that their system for verifying insurances was down and that I can come in the following day. No way, I didnt accept it. Theres already enough reasons to miss work while pregnant. Luckily they worked it out and I was able to see the doctor. The doctor sat with me a few minutes, asked a few questions, answered a few questions. He took the measurements of my belly and checked the heartbeat and I was out the door with my next appointment scheduled. My health insurance was later billed for blood work that they never took from me, and instead of billing me my copayment, they billed the entire doctor visit and applied it towards my deductible. Its been a fight with the billing dept. at Mercy. Their excuse? "You werent here for most of your pregnancy, your previous doctor was paid for the prenatals so we are basically only going to get paid for the delivery." Um....wow. So you bill as you please to make sure you can get as much as possible since you missed out of the beginning of my pregnancy?

BEST OB/GYN EVER !! And Im very complicated! Let me tell you why.. Over the past years, Ive been to many GYN; and had bad experiences!! Absolutely nothing like Dr. Cardenas and his team. He makes you feel like hes known you for ever and he is there to meet your needs and TAKES HIS TIME with you, not like many doctors that rush and minimize there time with the patients. Dr. Cardenas takes his job very serious and calls you personally to go over results or to simply know how you are feeling ( pregnant issues). Super smart and has an answer to every question, and I have many... Great personality, peoples person, very positive, CARING, very Profesional and respectful, and he is very gentle. Pap smear and other procedures dont hurt with him like it did with other Doctors!! Never thought I would say this but I truly love my doctor. And by the way I travel 1hr to his office in Doral and sometimes more depending on traffic but is totally worth it every time!! The staff is super nice specially Shelley the office manager. Office is super clean!! Less than 15 min on the waiting room which is awsome cause before Ive waited more than an hour. They take their time to know you by name, they call you back in a short timely manner when you need them, and show their support in whatever situation you might be in!! All the other Doctors at Bayshore Women Health are awsome as well!! I normally dont wright reviews but I know how hard its to find a GREAT DR. So I want all the woman out there that want a better experience and to have a super cool down to earth, smart Doc that cares, and is up to date with technology and all the good and new practices to deliver your bundle of joy (baby) and take care of your OB/GYN needs to not hesitate and go with Dr. Ernesto Cardenas , this DR IS 1 In a MILLION !!! Believe me
