There is no overall coordination between the doctors and specialists, the nurses are told not to bother them unless issue is imminently life threatening, pain management appears irrelevant, overall cleanliness issues in the ICU. If you do get a chance to speak to one of the doctors, you can only find out about the specific organ theyre in charge of. Patient was repeatedly gagging on own blood, after a day of that the nurses finally provided a suction device that they didnt clean until receiving a complaint. For days in the ICU patient was not provided any pain management, the nurses only yelled at patient every time he pounded his chest in pain since it disrupted the monitors. Relatives were ridiculed for asking to get assistance with pain management and trying to get more info on status. The ICU nurses were typically sarcastic and rude when asked about his status, and there were rarely any doctors around to ask. The patient bathroom in the ICU is not cleaned, and nurses declare it off-limit except as a dumping ground for patient waste products. Patient left sitting in bloody diarrhea until it dried, blood in his bedding, tv remote, etc were not regularly cleaned in the ICU. Pluses: Nurses outside the ICU were more involved with his care, changing bedding regularly, assisting with bodily needs, asking how he was doing. The ICU rooms are well-cleaned between patients using state of the art infection-management tools and methodology.

Do not use this ER unless it is a matter of life or death and then think twice - if you have no choice try to have someone with you that has enough medical knowledge to screen procedures before allowing them, proof your bill for accuracy and you might want to get a second opinion too. Went in with a horrible pain in my side - three xrays, urine tests, blood tests, Electrocardiogram, $80.00 for oxygen that I did not have, $178.00 twice for IVs (I only had one)....to be told that I had a bruised rib and that it would heal itself..... I was diagnosed with a dislocated rib the following morning by a client of mine that is a chiropractor OVER THE PHONE!!!!!!!! Yes, he was over 1000 miles away and knew exactly what was wrong from my description alone........ One visit to a local chiropractor fixed it...... Dont even try to get this hospital to discount the bill. They bill your insurance company astronomical amounts for each procedure to get the maximum that the insurance company will pay and then show a discount for the amount that is not covered. Even with the discount you end up paying much more than you should have to... The end result is that I paid over $1600.00 for paint medication because of their mis diagnosis......

i would like to let anyone who has not had the opportunity to visit Bert Fish Medical Center, that you have missed what real medical attention is all about. You. The real person, not what you have or dont have. Just you with a medical problem. Of course you will have to be responsible for your needs, but that is not there first concern. Again it is you they are concerned with. I went there this week with a life threatening dilemma. Scared to death that I would be turned away, but too sick to do anything else. I had no choice but to take a chance with this hospital. To my delight they opened their arms and their hearts and gave me first class treatment and service. From administration to aids, everyone was top notch. My surgeon was world class, down to coming in early to secure that my procedure was a success. I am one of so many that is not employed as of now, but I do have work coming this winter and will be able to pay may bill in full, I know that matters like we all do, but what got me is that Bert Fish cared about me first. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Dont ever go here! I went here several times and have had bad experiences all around. They almost let my gallbladder rupture from mis-diagonosis in 2005,. In 2006, they sent me home in the middle of a miscarriage and told me to have it at home! 2 days later I almost died because of all the blood loss from hemorrhaging. I was coming out of the bathroom and fainted from the blood loss. While I was falling I broke my ankle in 3 places and had to be rushed via ambulance. So after a DNC, 4 blood transfusions, and an ankle surgery leaving me with 10 screws and a plate in my leg I figured that it was over then. No. They charged medicaid, and it was paid, then they charged me the same amount for something that was already paid for. Now they are trying to mess up my credit and Im furious. DO NOT go to this hospital EVER! They are no better than a band aid station. I have plenty more horror stories to write a book about this place. Its horrible! as john said in a comment below me. Beg the ambulance driver to just keep going!

The only reason I am giving a 4 star and not a 5 is because we had the misfortune of arriving when they were very busy - a Saturday evening and the first Saturday of Bike Week at that. Although we waited for 3.5 hours before we were able to see the doctor, the staff were incredibly kind and kept apologizing for the delay. We received an update and an apology every 30 minutes. Once we were able to see the doctor we were dismissed with treatment within the hour. Again, the medical staff were very kind and apologetic. Being from out of the country we were worried about payment processing, insurance acceptance, etc. This was the easiest part. Having informed our insurance before we went to the ER, they had communicated with the hospital prior to our arrival sending proof of coverage and billing information. The young lady who had to get our personal information for the payment file was also very apologetic for our long wait. Thanks Florida Hospital New Smyrna!

Worst billing system on the planet. What until you need to call into it. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes of ladies transferring me after pressing 6 for NSB billing and disconnecting me just to set up a payment plan. Then they have to be outsourcing billing to the lowest bidding po-dunk company they could find. I made my first payment, then 5 days later, said po-dunk company calls me asking for payment. Note here: always keep your transaction eceipt numbers. ... anyway I explained to the lady it was paid and gave her the receipt numbers. Not over with that one. I was call by four other ladies from this billing company over the span of a month for that payment, by the time the last one called I had already made the next months payment. Should have sued for harassment. I really wish I would have filmed my initial call to them that took 1.45 hours and posted it on youtube. This billing is the hands down a total failure. Screenshot your payment receipts !!!
