Our dear friend was taken to Wuesthoff by ambulance after a fall. She broke her hip and needed hip surgery. She was given surgery the afternoon of the next day. When she woke up in the recovery room, the first thing she complained of was severe stomach pains. They put her in Intensive Care and told us it was so she would get extra care considering her age (78).She complained all evening of her stomach and was sedated. We went home to rest about 10:30 that evening and came back in the morning. The day nurse was horrible and let her moan without giving her relief. My wife would tell the nurse, "its time for her pain medications" and the nurse ignored it and it would be an hour and a half before she would get any relief. It was few and far between before we saw a doctor. That evening the night time nurse came in who had cared for her the night before. She told us that our friend had thrown up a substance that shouldnt have come from her stomach but from her bowels and that she needed to have her stomach pumped to remove it so it wouldnt get into her blood stream. This was nearly 24 hours after she had thrown up. The day nurse and the brief visit from the doctor that day never mentioned any of this to us. That night her vitals went off the chart and she was put on a breathing machine. The next morning they mentioned that she should have a dialysis machine to clean out her blood. It took them most of the day before she was hooked up, she was in a drug induced coma by then. The next day she died from septic blood poisoning after a routine surgery. A doctor came by that practices at 3-4 hospitals in the area took my wife aside and said "you know, this was the wrong place to take her to get the care she needed". My wife replied "where were you 3 days ago?". I believe that if they had acted on her sooner she would still be with us. They didnt share important facts to us the next day (after she had thrown up septic) and waited so long it was flowing through her blood before acting. I wouldnt wish this hospital on my worst enemy. Down the road is Holmes Regional and there are others in the area but think twice before using Wuestoff.

To whom it may concern, Wuesthoff Hospital @ Melbourne Florida – I have been using this hospital to treat my father for the last 2 ½ years, (FY15 thru FY17) he has had extensive stays there, after 3 Heart Attacks, Kidney Cancer, and not to mention 8 to 9 mini strokes. I wanted to take a minute and tell the staff “ Thank You “ for all that that you do down there , My father can be difficult at times when he is ill , and the staff was always professional at all times , his room was always clean , and nurses where always attentive , when possible . The Nurses, do get busy down there and take the time to return my phone calls, which helped with the stress level of an elderly parent that has hearing issues. To be frank , he does not get that treatment at other hospitals , most of them called him a drug addict , because he is in pain management , and he was miss diagnosed at a major local hospital , Stating that he was taking too many pain killers , because he was getting lethargic and falling over . Then when I took him over to Wuesthoff, I told the Doctors I monitor his meds, and that he was not abusing his prescriptions. That is when the Emergency Staff Doctors became pro-active, instead of labeling him, they did a series of test, and discovered he was in kidney failure, and with the results of these finding from Wuesthoff, I then took him to the VA, upon which they ordered a full MRI,, and discovered a major tumor on his kidney, he was then scheduled for surgery a week later, and they successful removed the tumor which was cancerous. Wuesthoff SAVED his life by their pro-active treatment, the other local hospital just kept discharging him over and over for nearly 6 months, as they missed the cancer totally. I wanted to thank Wuesthoff management and Case managers, especially “ Chuck “ the unsung heroes that helped me get him into a very good rehabilitation center called Consultant , and getting back home in good health . Thank you Wuesthoff , “for all that you do “ Bryan and Ernest 5-8-2017

terrible...had gallbladder removed and NEVER saw Dr. prior to surgery that day nor after. My husband did not see him either. in recovery, the guy says I cant get her heart rate to stablilize and he keeps repeating. Finally I hear someone say give her CCs of such and such. I suppose I stabilized, because I asked him for something to drink & he says "IASKED YOU IF YOU WANTED SOMETHING EARLIER!" i SAY, Im sorry, I dont recall that! Then I say "im really hurting can I have something for pain? "AGAIN HE SAYS, I ASKED YOU EARLIER AND YOU TOLD ME NO!!" mY RESPONSE WAS iM SORRY, i DONT RECALL. i HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO UGLY AND SECOND CLASS! I had to pay 450.00 I think so I paid half and they set me up on auto withdrawal for balance and that was paid, NOW i have since received another $200.00 bill and keep getting collection calls! They waited 6 mos to bill another $200.00? I refuse to pay and they can have collectors call till hell freezes over! I will not voluntarily go back there EVER!!! BTW, you have a host of other problems if you have gallbladder removed so get several opinions. I suffer everyday....

The care was great -(I just had a small stroke on the 16th and discharged on the 18th) the quick response was there- the major problem I had was that NO ONE contacted my sister or Primary care doctor when I specifically requested more than once. Especially when I was getting my speech slightly back. I am from out of state, I have a PCP and my sister is my advocate/healthcare proxy. I was discharged 2 days after the stroke and from what I am reading it is scary. I was not informed as to the why. Improvements with communication would have been very beneficial in my care. I have trouble with understanding before the stroke can you imagine after? Signing a medical release would have been so easy when I was there but NO- they say to come back ad request them- I wanted my PCP to be on board if that was at all possible. I dont even know the answer to that one- I give them a 4 because I did receive excellent care and that is what mattered the most with quick responding. Oh -me I am recovering very well but it has taken an emotional toll on me now -like it is surreal.

My mother in law was brought here by ambulance yesterday for acute stroke symptoms. After brief care amd stabilization in the ER, she was told she was being transferred to another hospital because they did not have the resources to treat her. After that, the nursing staff failed to check in again for over 3 hours or longer. Way to treat someone with a possible stroke. Went hours without so much as asking her if she wanted food or water. It seems that once they found out she was being transferred (which didnt happen until this morning) she was no longer "their patient" and the lack of care by the staff was completely appalling. My suggestion is unless you want your next stop to be the coroner, steer clear of this hospital and go to Holmes or Viera if its an emergency. In addition to this review, we will be writing the Department of Health. This facility needs to be audited and overhauled - and replace staff and management as needed to improve services and client relations.
