If I could rate Dr. Powell a 10, I would do it emphatically ! I came to him just 2 weeks ago almost a basket case being covered from my ankles to the back of my neck with itchy scratchy red bumps front and back that started in Aug of 2014. They became so aggravating and intense that it became hard to focus or sleep and a couple of my trips to dermatologists were just short of going the hospital ER instead. I have had a skin biopsy, applied Aug Betamet, taken Prednisone, Doxycycl, used Clobetasol cream, Sarna lotion, Cerave cream, Triamconolin, given a Kenalog shot, and taken large doses of antihistamines. No treatment I took was successful. My 8th doctor visit was with Dr Gavin Powell 2 weeks ago who after acquiring my medical history gave me his diagnosis and suggested we go with UVB Phototherapy. Since I had tried everything else that seemed reasonable I agreed and I took my 1st light treatment a few days later. I was skeptical that 30 seconds in front of a bunch of light bulbs would do anything but by evening time, that same day, I was simply dumbfounded and amazed. This is really working! I could not believe that the itching and bumps were already subsiding, really ... and by the 3rd visit in the light bulb enclosure you could scarcely believe that I was the same person. My skin was totally transformed! I have always been active ... a big game hunter until a few years ago, a church trustee, and lead a physically active life. I walk 2 1/2 miles each day, except Sunday when I cut that in half. So its not like I dont get my share of sunlight. But to think that I have been suffering for 6 months and then find that there is relief for aggravated eczema ... well, my elation cannot be underestimated. Will this be permanent and how long will I need photo therapy hasnt been determined yet, but knowing I can get relief is priceless. My condition is a type of dermatitis. It is not minor and it is not something Ive ever had before, but if you have the itchy scratchies and burning like skin, you know how it changes your life. To me and my wife .... this is almost magic! And my insurance company, Aetna is picking up most of the tab. So insurance companies are recognizing that UVB treatments are successful. Too bad I didnt know that last summer.

Not only did they not remove all the precancerous spots they were suppose to, the ones which were frozen were not fully removed. I will have to seek another Dermatologist who can actually do it correctly and pay again. I dont have a problem paying at time of service I prefer it, My copay is $35.00 but I was charged $235.00. Tried to explain the copay situation but they insisted it was $235.00 so I paid it. Insurance paid a week later all of it by my $35 copay just like I knew they would. Called the office pointed out the $200.00 overcharge was suppose to received a refund...told were getting ready to mail it out...30 days later Im still waiting..getting the runaround everytime I call .Guess Im going to have to sue them to get my refund..shame on them. Its OK to expect payment at time of service its not OK to screw over your patients by overcharging hundreds of dollars and refusing to refund it.

Weve been patients with Dr. Powell for more than 5 years. He is a great doctor, and pleasant to talk to. Weve had nothing but good experiences with him, his staff, and business office. Would recommend him without hesitation.
