There are probably fewer businesses on this entire plant that i would endorse the way I am about to endorse Abell animal hospital; accordingly, I would encourage anyone to summarily reject the complaints from other surly commenters below about about anything less then an an excellent experience at Abell. Its simply impossible for me to beleive any of them given that we are in there 3-6 times a year for our various animals on their different schedules. We have three dogs and cat and have been taking them to Abell for close to four years. All four doctors (Mayer, Singh, Miller, and Cheryl) have been instrumental in the ongoing and emergency care of our pets. Nearly the entire staff (which is second to NONE - reception, support, vet techs, etc) knows our pets by name and as well us and our pets by sight as we walk through the doors. Thee comments below about rude or condescending tones from the doctors or staff at Abell are laughable - i litterally laughed out load when reading that. Dr. Singh essentially saved our youngest dogs life with his quick and correct diagnosis of the two serious conditions she had when we first resuced her. The vet who worked with the rescue organization mis-diagonsed one condition and completely did NOT diagnose the life-threatening one. That is poor vetrinary medicince and has never occured at Abell. In my experience, Abell regularly recommends to us a lot of services and tests because they take a conservative approach. Never have we been pressured into anything and in most scenarios the doctors have given us treatment options with different pricing options. Repeat: Recommendations, no pressure, pricing options. Theyve also suggested second opinions in some cases - for example, when our Boxer was diagnosed with cancer. In addition, they have encouraged us to seek pet insurance to help offset our personal costs. In addition, though Dr. Mayer may not love me putting this in writing, he has given us arbitrary discounts when our bills have been higher, done multiple free follow-ups (as opposed to only a single one), and found other ways to reasonably work with us while trying to be fair to his business. Also, if you do any research on vets in the Chicagoland area, you will see that Dr. Mayer is one of the most repected and experienced. I take my vets to the best doctors as I do for myself; i had my kneee operated on my a top orthepaedic specialistic, my wife goes to a top allergist - we dont seek cut-rate medical service for our selves or for our four-legged children. That being said, before we settled on Abell, it seemed to me that pricing was similar from vet to vet, but in all honesty its been going on four years and i dont have a current pricing frame of referece ... but with the service and expertise we receive, there is zero reason to "price shop". We also drive a Mercedes, purchase Sony electronics, and consider Disney a top vacation destination ... so maybe we are accustomed to paying more and expecting and receiving more for goods and services with a higher price tag.

I had never been there before since Im new to the neighbourhood. I woke up at 6:00am one day last week and one of my cats her back legs were lame and she was dragging her body. I freaked out and started looking for vets in the neighborhood that opened early. While I was waiting for Abell to open I was reading reviews and everything was great. I called right at 8:00 when they opened and they were able to take us at 8:30. Since they were less than a mile away I grabbed it and the cat and off we went. They were very thorough with x rays and blood work. The doctor took me in back to see the x-rays and explained everything to me indicating what she thought was the problem area in her spine. She gave her the shots. One in each hip for pain and one steroid injection. By the time I got her home she had already improved a bit. With the steroids Im still giving her for another few days and the pain meds she just finished, she looks good as new. I especially liked that they called the next day to see how she was doing. She still has four more days on the steroids but I think shes already just fine. Running around with her tail straight up (which she could not do) and playing with her sister. I will check back with them before letting her play hard but what a relief to have found a vet like this in my own neighborhood. Im very pleased.

If you live in the area or are having a hard time finding a good vet, TAKE THE TO ABELL!!! Everyone from the receptionists to the vets are not only professional and great at what they do, but are loving and genuinely care for each and every animal and person that walks in the door! Ive taken my dog there since he was a puppy and they have done nothing but cater to our needs! The doctors and nurses are thorough in their examinations of the animals and take the time to explain the what treatment needs to be given and why. Anyone who disputes these claims must be crazy! Today I called regarding a prescription for my dog and they went out of their way to find a solution to get the prescription he needed despite the fact that weve moved to Mississippi. Im happy to say that my dog will have the prescription he needs tonight and wont have to wait until we can visit again. THANK YOU ABELL!!! You are amazing in more ways than one!

Would not recommend taking your pet here (unless you dont mind being charged for work that does not need to be done or being overcharged for work that needs to be done). Get an estimate! But dont expect the estimate to match up with the work (costs will be higher, guaranteed! Yes, they will explain the higher costs w/you knowing it is just WRONG!). Doctor at Abell (Dr. Cheryl) appeared to understand and know her job but inexperienced in ways of "seeing the bigger picture". She did not convince me that the work she was recommending had to be done! I understand price is not a consideration when it comes to our beloved pets, but come on! I ended up going to an experienced vet for 2/3rd the cost and my pet is doing great! I would never go to Abell Animal Hospital again, never again!

When my cat was very sick I had to wait 3 days for an appt. The people at the desk were never all that concerned when it came to my cat. Everytime I called it was "Oh all cats do that." Didnt even have any kind of ear cleaner for him only for dogs. Couldnt even tell me if my cat had mites or ear wax!! This was a while back but I never went back there again. Plus never the same vet always someone different. I could kick myself for going there.
