Wheaton Animal Hospital is a beautiful facility and the staff is incredible. When I woke up yesterday morning to our 18 year old cat in absolute agony, I knew we had to make a final heartbreaking trip to the vet. Im still new to the area and didnt know where to go so I started looking through reviews of 24 hour vets in the area and many of them had awful reviews so I was relieved to come across Wheaton Animal Hospitals pleasant reviews and see that they had early office hours. They also have on-call vets that answer their phones in case of an emergency which I found to be comforting and relieving in what was otherwise a very emotional situation. My fiancé is in the Army and we dont have any family in the state so I had to bring our one year old toddler with me. When we arrived I was already in tears but the staff was incredibly sweet to my son and very kind to me. They explained that the vet would not be in for at least another half hour, but offered us a private room which I was extremely grateful for. When the vet arrived he was incredibly compassionate towards our cat, my son, as well as me. He was kind, professional, considerate, accommodating, and made our dear old friend as comfortable as he could possibly be. After an examination he explained that our cat was displaying signs of heart disease and that a blood clot had caused paralysis and excruciating pain in his back limbs. Our cat was a proud, strong, brave, and handsome guy and at the Wheaton Animal Hospital he was allowed the privacy, compassion, and dignity that an owner wishes their loved ones receive in their time of passing. In light of how heartbreaking yesterday was, I am extremely grateful for the kindness and professionalism the Wheaton Animal Hospital staff extended to us that day. As devastating as the loss of a pet can be, they really did all that they could to provide us with a pleasant experience. The vet himself even carried our cat in his carrier to my vehicle for me while I carried our toddler. (We have a country property that we would prefer to bury him on rather than cremate him.) I cannot say enough good things about this place and will absolutely have them in mind should we ever have to help another one of our pets cross the rainbow bridge.

My family and I have been going to Wheaton Animal Hospital for the past 15 years. I initially heard about Wheaton Animal Hospital when I worked in the kennel at Petland in Bloomingdale and I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Lancaster and Dr. Rubendall while I worked there. Having several animals over the years we have always gone to Wheaton. Several years back we had to put down our dog Missy, and everyone, including the receptionists, at Wheaton Animal Hospital signed a condolence card and sent it to us. They truly know how much losing a pet can impact you. Dr. Weidner and Dr. Cole are amazing. They take the time out to personally talk and consult with you. Their expertise is beyond amazing in their vast knowledge of medicine and treatment. Our dog Mindy was diagnosed with Lymphoma back in December 2016 and we were offered the option of her having chemo, and were told that it is one of the most responsive cancers to treat. And here we are, in August, and our little senior dog is doing very well. She finished chemo and will have a better quality of life than if we had just let the cancer take her. We had to put down our 13 year old cat Phoenix yesterday, and that was extremely difficult. But Dr. Weidner took the time and let us say our goodbyes and didnt rush us. He was very caring and compassionate. These are qualities that are hard to find in people these days. I understand what its like to be in the midst of everything in a veterinary setting, and I, as well as my family, are all very appreciative of everyone at Wheaton. I would ignore any negative reviews because, yes, the animal hospital does get busy, and things like the emergency with our cat last night, can come up, and put everyone else on a longer wait. But we all do it for the animals, including the vets and staff.

We brought our dog coco, in for a 3 year rabies shot. No one told us about the risks of this on small dogs, we were told she would be lethargic for a few days thats it. She was in so much pain the next few days and acted injured so we took her back a week later. We asked a number of times if its related to the shot she got and they were adamant it wasnt. We were then told she hurt her leg, which seemed like a coincidence but we went with it. Then we got xrays since it wasnt getting better a week later and this time it was supposidy a herniated disk and were told she needs a 4000+ dollar sugury or she should be euthenized. We had her looked at by 3 different doctors at the wheaton animal hospital at this point. So hundreds of dollars and weeks later of medication we decided to get a second opinion. So we took her to Itasca animal medical center and the doctor said the 3 year injection is too strong for a dog her size and she should not have been given it. Also she did not have a herniated disk or an injured leg just a calcified disk and to just keep an eye on it. The doctor said she just needs more rest and it should eventually get better but will take time due to the 3 year rabies shot. A month and a half later, she is now completely back to normal, no sugeries needed. We will never take our dog back to the wheaton animal hospital, they obviously dont know what they are doing or know how to diagnose. We nearly did a completely unnecessary 4 thousand dollar back surgery on our dog for no reason because of their incompetence. If you care about your animal and wallet do not go here.. trust me. I would give them 0 stars if it let me.

WE GOT OUR DOG, ZEN, FROM A RESCUE. WE WERE ONLY KIND OF LOOKING FOR ANOTHER DOG AT THE TIME SINCE WE ALREADY HAD ANOTHER RESCUE, ZOEY. WE SAW, ZEN ON A RESCUE WEBSITE. WE WOULD COME BACK TO THE SITE EVERY NOW AND THEN FOR A FEW WEEKS. EVERY TIME WE CAME BACK TO THE SITE, THERE WAS ZEN AGAIN. WE COULDNT FIGURE OUT WHY HE WASNT GETTING ADOPTED SINCE ALL OF THE OTHER DOGS WE WERE LOOKING AT WERE ALREADY GONE. WE FIGURED THEY JUST MUST HAVE FORGOTTEN TO TAKE DOWN HIS PICTURE. MY WIFE CALLED AND THEY TOLD HER HE WAS STILL THER, BUT... WE SOON FOUND OUT WHY HE WASNT BEING ADOPTED. HIS SISTER AND HE WHERE FOUND WONDERING IN THE WOODS WHEN THEY WERE VERY YOUNG. BOTH WERE VERY SICK AND DEAF. THIS IS WHY NOBODY WOULD ADOPT HIM. TO MUCH FOR MOST PEOPLE TO HANDLE. WE DECIDED HE DESERVED A BREAK AND WE WOULD TAKE HIM IN AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. THE FOLKS AT WHEATON ANIMAL HOSPITAL FIGURED THAT HIS MOTHER MUST HAVE HAD ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPOTTED FEVER WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT AND THE PUPS WERE BORN WITH IT. THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB MAKING HIM AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE AND SO FAR HE IS LIVING A HEALTHY AND REWARDING LIFE. HE WILL BE 3 YEARS OLD IN A FEW MONTHS. WE ARE THANKFULL EVERY DAY THAT WE HAVE HIM AND THE FOLKS AT WHEATON ANIMAL HOSPITAL WERE ABLE TO SAVE HIS LIFE SO WE CAN SHARE IT WITH HIM. IT IS NOT EASY HAVING A DEAF DOG, BUT IT IS VERY REWARDING.
