Zero Stars - yep, zero stars despite the one star listing! Contracted with BrightStar Care of Central Dupage for a week - three significant and disqualifying issues for anyone considering their "service"... 1.) Different caregiver each day (continuity, please). First was a person whose second language was English. Had trouble explaining care/status when "relieved"; pointed to menu when asked what patient had eaten. Would have been great if dealing with Hispanic patient and/or client. 2.) Caregiver failed to show up for one "shift." Only got a replacement after calling to notify BrightStar that no one had shown up (think maybe they should have called me that someone was late or cancelled?). Do you want to trust you loved one to such "care?" Was told there was an "emergency" by supervising nurse; told different story by franchise administrator ("Wont happen again." Haha! They need to get their BS coordinated/straight). Dont BS me to cover your critical mistake(s)! Own up to your screw-up! Had to argue for credit for the hour no one was on site; youd think there would have been no charge for the evening to make up for such an egregious mistake. You guessed wrong! We were good since someone showed up after prompting BrightStar! 3.) Was charged for time outside of the contract - additional charge by a "caregiver" that was not asked for/anticipated/needed. Administrator did the sob story that he would have to dock caregiver for the time. So sad; too bad. Want me to eat the bill for your fraud? Sounds like a really cool way to jack up bill! Totally screwed-up outfit that says thyre there to help but leaves the unmistakable trail theyre only out to make a buck. Bad service then half-baked excuses when they cant even meet their own low bar. Never again. Avoid and do your loved one a favor.

I cant say enough good things about the care my father-in-law received from all the Brightstar caretakers! They treated my F-I-L with tenderness, compassion and professionalism. They even questioned me one day when he had a bloody spot on his neck that happened when I tried to give him a haircut. Rather than getting my nose out of joint about the inference that he may have been abused or neglected, I took it as proof that they had eagle eyes out for his well-being. I loved using Brightstar because I could just call them and say "I need someone to take care of my F-I-L at such and such a date and time", whether it was in just a few hours away or months away and poof! just like magic they were there! I could schedule my own appointments with the assurance that someone would be there to take care of my F-I-L. Such a relief. I had the option of not using a service like Brightstar and hire people on my own. UGH! That is my idea of a living hell. What with scheduling, payroll, payroll taxes, workmans comp, applicable state and federal labor laws, interviewing, availability of just one or two people to use, it would have been a royal pain and massive time suck on top of the challenges presented by caring for an 88 year old (sometimes very crabby) dementia patient with chronic kidney disease. Brightstar takes care of ALL of the overhead (personnel issues, payroll issues, scheduling issues, etc., etc.) involved. Brightstar saved what little sanity I had for over two years and I am very grateful for their services.

I have been working for BrightStar Wheaton for 1 1/2 years and it is the best decision I ever made. I love working with all of the staff there. I also love working one on one with each of my clients giving them the best care that I can. If I have a question, I just call one of the case manager nurses and they are always there for me to answer my question(s) and support me. My clients all have wonderful families that I also work with and I consider them all part of my "Family." I love them all. Sue Knechtges is one of my case manager nurses who is always very friendly and answers my questions immediately and makes me feel comfortable with whatever I ask her. She is one of the best nurses I have ever worked with. She is a very caring, compassionate, loving person and I adore her! She also has a great sense of humor! Thank you for always being there for me, Sue. I also want to mention another great case manager nurse, Nancy Snapp. Thank you for always being there for me and supporting me. Other nurses I also want to thank who are great are Diane Thorson and Kelly Honn. Last but certainly not least. To all the great office staff! You are all the best and I love you all. I am a 38 year old patient of BrightStar for my home infusion needs for my chronic illness. Nurse Sue and Nurse Heather have become advocates for me with the rest of my medical team and they have become treasured parts of my family. They took the time to learn my rare disease both through my stories, but also their own research. As a patient myself, they treat me with dignity and care. They see me on good days and bad days, but their visits (though medically challenging) always brighten my day because Im reminded that Ive got them in my corner. As a challenging patient- you never know whats going to happen with my disease next- they stay flexible and work with my physician to manage and constantly adapt my plan of care. I couldnt hope for better, more skilled, more caring nurses. No one wants to need home health, but if you have to have it, BrightStar is the way to go- for your family or if you need it, for yourself.

Weve had nothing but positive experiences with BrightStars in Wheaton. We spend much of our time outside the DuPage County area but every time we come back to the area, even for a week, everything works out great! It amazes me that with very little notice, all the pieces are in place when I need someone to care for my 93 year old mother. On those occasions, my mother is alone in her large home and the caregivers go above and beyond my expectations. English isnt my mothers first language, but that doesnt cause a problem at all. Everyone, from the office to the caregivers, is available to me at any time. Even when Ive had issues arise, such as billing errors, the mistake was taken care of within 24 hours. Thats unheard of these days. I have to say, I feel calm leaving my mother in their care, even if Im traveling overseas. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for in home care.

BrightStar has been an absolute life saver for my family. First, we contacted them to find a care giver for our mother with Alzheimers. They did a thorough look, based on our moms personality and background. They found a perfect match! When our needs increased, they easily adapted to what we needed. At one point, in an emergency situation, we needed a 24 hour care giver. They found someone in less than 24 hours. After our mom went into a memory care facility, we switched the care givers focus towards our dad, who was in the late stages of lung cancer. Once again, they were wonderful - the care givers and the Bright Star office staff. Caring, thorough and agile. I cant say enough positive things about them. Susan Lyon
