Took our little dog, Cookie, in on Saturday, July 1st, 2017 for routine shots and exam. The vet pronounced the doggy (including lung and heart sounds) as normal/healthy. A follow-up visit was scheduled for July 15th. Total bill: $303.35. Over the next few days the dogs breathing became increasingly labored. Close to midnight on July 4th the dogs breathing degraded to the point that I took her to WECare (24 hour vet) in Waldorf, arriving approximately 1:15 AM. The WECare vet asked me if Cookie had always had a heart murmur. An X-Ray revealed very cloudy lungs. We sadly euthanized our beloved little Cookie on the evening of 7/5. Total charges at WECare: $923.19. A day or two later I phoned Companion Care to cancel Cookies follow-up appointment and explained she had been put to sleep. The receptionist who answered the call was sympathetic and promised to cancel Cookies appointment and purge her from the system. A few days later I received an e-mail from Companion Care reminding me about Cookies appointment on July 15th. I replied to the e-mail, again explaining that Cookie had been put to sleep and to please purge her from the system. A few days later I received a phone call from Tonya, the operations manager at Companion Care, reminding me of Cookies appointment on July 15th. At this point I unloaded my frustrations on Tonya, not only at Companion Cares inability to process a simple cancellation, but also for their pronouncing Cookie healthy mere days before she had to be put to sleep. I requested some sort of compensation for my trouble. On July 18th I was informed by Tonya that Companion Care was unable to offer me any compensation. Had they at least offered a token, I would not be writing this negative review. They would not have had to acknowledge negligence or wrongdoing. Just a simple, "Im sorry Mr. Robinson. While were not able to refund the $303.35, we will refund gladly refund $50.00 as a token of our contrition for the trouble we caused you through our inability to cancel an appointment for your beloved pet", was all I was hoping to see. My impression of both Companion Care and WECare is that their sole focus is on revenue. If we ever own another small animal, I will go to great lengths to avoid patronizing this place. Their office staff is incompetent and theyre clueless concerning customer relations. The reader of this review can draw a personal conclusion from the facts stated above as to whether the vet who treated Cookie was competent.

We took our dog to Companion Care for over three years until they started overcharging us on our routine visits. They are extremely overpriced ever since they built their new facility last year. The staff is unprofessional even though they rotate them out like a revolving door. Pet owners, you are forwarned, go to Tidewater Veterinary Clinic, it is much more affordable, great staff and vets, and they truly understand what the real meaning of companion care is all about!

Small practice with friendly staff and two lovely docs. Theyre big on educating clients and offering different treatment options specific to your pet and your wallet. Not pushy like other places and they ALWAYS give you an estimate with the cost breakdown which I really appreciate! Great service and very clean also.
