I have been waiting for Dr. Forbes to open her own veterinary office here in A2 for a long time! Finally last February, she and two other wonderful women doctors actually did it (all are working mothers no less!) I am so glad that “compassionate care" has truly arrived in Ann Arbor! I refer them every chance I get. Dr. Forbes and I first met when she was an ER vet over fifteen years ago and I have been taking my animals to her ever since. She miraculously pulled my dear Kofi cat back from the brink of death after he was hit by a car, making tough, decisive calls and letting me be present and informed the entire way. Kofi went on to live many happy years giving us much joy as well as much gratitude for Dr. Forbes Herculean efforts. She has been with us through the life and passing of two very dear four leggeds. Over the years I have been constantly amazed at how smart and unbelievably knowledgeable Dr. Forbes is as well. Her vast ER experience certainly gives her an edge over many... but what drew me to her most was her uncanny ability to sense what my animals felt and needed and her compassion for their suffering. Since opening their doors, CCAH has been my ‘go to’ place for veterinary care and I have been predictably impressed. (It is the only place that my GSD do, Maxx, can visit and not be nervous... No kidding!) They take great care of him including locating scarce resources and medications he must have to survive. If you are a "high maintenance" pet owner like me, (with or without a high maintenance pet) this is definitely where you want to be. They soothe frayed nerves like no one Ive experienced. Finally, the docs at CCAH also bring a level of expertise and experience that allows them to avoid the discomfort and expense of stressful and unneeded procedures. I find they are much less interested in racking up big fees than they are in focusing on individual patient comfort and care. In my opinion CCAH is “heads and tails” above the rest (hee hee) and believe me, I’ve been to many over the years. If you want a warm, loving and highly rewarding experience for your pet, I highly recommend you check out Compassionate Care Animal Hospital!

I am not sure where to begin with my review, I think I will begin by saying that this place is amazing for many reason. Reason number one, and the biggest one, is the staff. Everyone here truly love what they do. Helping animals and their fur parents to find a healthy path for their pets. My husband and I adopted a 5 year old lab mix 8 months ago and she has slowly been warming up to everyone in her new life, including the great people at Compassionate Care. The first time we brought her to Compassionate Care she was very very anxious and would hide behind me, hide under chairs etc. She would not let the staff get close to her let alone examine her. Our vet, Dr Forbes, suggested that we take her in for "treat-visits" a few times a month to get her used to the place and the staff. Of course we took them up on their suggestion as they have far more experience with this than we do. We have been taking her in a few times a month for the last 7 months now and yesterday we reaped the reward in a big way. Our dog used to need anti anxiety pills before any examination and yesterday I decided not to giver her any pills before we went, just to see if there had been any improvements. Turns out that our frequent "treat-visits" to Compassionate Care has paid off, our doggie would let Dr Forbes examine her yesterday without much wiggling & whining and no hiding under chairs. She is still not a fan of taking the temp, but I wouldnt be either. So, if you are wondering if you should give this place a try for your fur baby I say do not hesitate, you will not regret it. Thank you all people at Compassionate Care!

We were able to get an appointment at Compassionate Care after phoning two other clinics that were booked solid. The staff were very welcoming, and the vet explained the diagnosis, answered our questions and explained our options very carefully. We knew our cat was not feeling well but we were not prepared for the diagnosis, which was not good. This was on the Friday afternoon before a 3-day weekend. We were just not ready to euthanize our cat on the spot, so we were given medications to make him more comfortable until the following Tuesday, when we could reconsider. We were told that there would be a vet on call over the holiday weekend if we had questions. Our cat rallied a bit on Saturday but on Sunday evening he started crying, and it was blatantly clear that the situation had become critical. We were absolutely frantic, and when I tried to reach the vet on call (several times) to refer me to a place that could euthanize him, all I got was a FAX screech in my ear. It took awhile for me to find an emergency clinic; by the time I got my cat there he had died. Hindsight is always 20/20. The vet who diagnosed our cat encouraged us to consider euthanasia, and I wish I had realized how critical our cats situation was. I would have put him down immediately. Instead I listened to him scream while I tearfully and frantically searched for help. The folks at Compassionate Care lived up to their reputation as far as the cats care was concerned; our only disappointment was that they were not there for us when we really needed help.

Unfortunately our 2 year old dog, Ozzie, has a chronic skin allergy so we have to take him to the vet A LOT. When I say a lot, I mean weve had more visits this past year than a dog should in its lifetime. It seemed like every month a new hot spot would appear or another flare up would occur, but CCAH has helped us explore our options and it seems to be working! Ozzie is slowly but surely getting better and we owe it all the CCAH. Compassionate Care Animal Hospital really lives up to its name and we wouldnt want to take Oz anywhere else! Everyone thats works here is awesome (Becky is Ozzies favorite). All the doctors and vet techs are very caring & personable and they all have your pets best interest in mind. What originally brought us here was the great hours they have. Before 9 and after 5 on some days, plus Saturdays make it great for working pet parents! Not only are their hours great, but they have pretty reasonable pricing too. They offer a wellness plan which can save you money on your annual visit or if you have multiple visits a year like we do you can really save a lot(I highly recommend it). I can honestly say weve never had a bad visit. You wont regret taking your pet here!!

The doctors and staff at Compassionate Care are truly something else. They have lovingly and diligently shared the task of caring for my cat since the day he joined our family. After living in Ann Arbor for nearly 10 years I have worked with many of the local vets, but it wasnt until I found CC that I finally got to stop looking. We also use an in-home vet for maintenance and annual care, and CC NEVER has any issue with sharing the task of caring for our kitty, who is quite the mischievous little guy and therefore frequently needs more urgent attention. One of the best parts about this business is there passion for each and every animal that walks through the doors. There have been a few times where my cat has needed overnight stays, and unlike many vets, CC always keeps someone in the office if they have overnight guests. Im always able to rest a little easier knowing that my pet is under constant loving supervision when hes there. On a number of occasions I have also needed a phone consult after-hours, and again, they are always there to talk me through a crisis. This practice is truly the best veterinary office and hospital Ive ever had the pleasure of working with.
