DONT GO TO BLUE PEARL. Take 5 minutes and google Blue Pearl Reviews and you will be scared. I went there May 10th and completely wasted my money and time. IF your interested in a specialist, MIchigan State has a great reputation so does the Humane Society. Blue Pearl does not care about your animal. I hope someone calls one of the news stations and sends someone in under cover to make people aware. I took my dog into my regular vet that I have been going to for years. My dog kept gagging and after he took blood and x-rays and a full examination he told me my dog had faulty valves and enlarged heart and put him on a diuretic and heart medicine which got rid of the cough but had side effects. I came to Blue Pearl for a second opinion and to let a cardiologist look at him. When I arrived i sat in the waiting room and this girl approached me in regular clothing. She said she was a vet but didnt explain much I assumed she was the cardiologist. She asked several questions, wasnt friendly or compassionate and her overall attitude was horrible. She asked for the dog didnt explain anything and came back out around 40 minutes later for the sales pitch!!! She sold me on 900 dollars worth of tests. I asked if they could use the blood work from my vet or x-rays I just had and Blue Pearl couldnt do this. I just had these tests done and was telling her I needed to watch the cost. This so called Doctor didnt care she just needed my signature. I should have known better what a joke. I waited in a hot room for my dog about an hour and nobody came around to let me know anything I almost left it was so hot in there. Dr. Laura the cardiologist came in with no lab coat on explaining how she knew everything about the dogs heart and said my dog didnt need the medication my vet prescribed and said the heart disease was mild and my dog had bronchitis which needed an antibiotic. She said if there were any problems to call her or another cardiologist and if they were unavailable they would call me within 24 hours. Well after a week on the antibiotic my dogs cough came back worse than before. I called three times and left message and Dr. Laura didnt call in 24 hours more like 4 days later. I finally received a call from a technician who had no idea about my dog or treatment and repeated over and over to come into emergency for my dogs cough. I said I just need to speak with Dr. Laura she told me if the antibiotics didnt work we would try something else. The technician said Dr. Laura wasnt available and in order to help my dog I would need to bring him in so the technicians can run some tests. I said what tests, i just had them done plus an x-rayI i said i just need a different medicine that Dr. Laura said we could try.,. The tech replied "this cough sounds like a separate issue and I need to come into emergency for tests." I asked what kind of tests are needed to prescribe a cough medicine or steroid? Not only was I told to come in order to check the dogs cough it was a weekend so it would be an emergency visit with a high cost just for showing up. It was clear the tech didnt even have my dogs file in front of her. Dr. Laura said to call if the cough came back and she would prescribe something else. The tech said this cough was something different. So if I would have gone back, would you pulled up Dr. Lauras x-ray and blood work or would you have re done these tests that were done a week before? Why didnt Blue Pearl contact Dr. Laura and get the medicine that needed to be prescribed for my dog as she suggested? I will tell you why read all the reviews, they dont care about your animal they are scamming money. I highly suggest you choose another animal hospital this place not only rips you off you cannot see any work they are doing and they dont show you any proof they even do the work. BEWARE

Definitely recommend! I had to take my cat to Blue Pearl to see a cardiologist. He had a a bad heart murmur and the regular vet thought it may be something that could be fixed with surgery so we went to Blue Pearl Southfield. The staff there was all very nice and friendly. Even from the first time I called them. They got me in pretty quickly & at a time that was convenient for me. The do things a little different there. They wanted him to not eat for 12 hours prior to the appointment. We were probably there 2+ hours the first time. They did an EKG and ultrasound of his heart. Then they put me in a room with him and left us sitting there for an hour before anyone came in. Luckily I had brought some cat food with me. We drove over 90 miles so this was an all day thing every time we came to Blue Pearl. I would have liked more notification on delays. They should have free beverages or snacks out. Many people come from far away to this location. It would be nice to have a bite to eat while waiting & before making the long drive home. The Dr. was great. She knew exactly what was wrong. Unfortunately there was no surgery to fix his heart. We did see her a few more times but his heart became enlarged and we stopped going at that point since there was nothing else to be done. I think they should have pamphlets or some info on what they do, on the the diseases and treatment options if there are any. It is a lot to take in at once & I forgot half of what she said. I also wish they would have faxed this info to the regular vet. Also, since we drove so far we arrived a bit earlier than our appt. The last time we went the person at the desk was a bit rude. I arrived about 20 minutes early and checked in at that time. The girl said "you know your appointment isnt until 1:30, right?!" I wasnt expecting the doctor to see right when I walked in the door. I told her I would rather be early than late. It was for the most part a positive experience dealing with everyone at this location. I would go there again if needed. The do charge a lot more than a regular vet though. Even for the same thing it may be twice as much as you would pay at your regular vet. Get all labwork done and bring it with you so you dont have to pay way more than you should.

The doctors and staff at Blue Pearl saved my dog. I took him to a small vet office in Southgate on 8/13 for lethargy, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Blood tests suggested lepto and they began treating for it with fluids and an antibiotic. He stayed overnight and the next day I went to see him. His blanket reeked of urine (had not been changed in over 24 hours) and he looked much worse. They couldnt get him to eat and didnt seem very concerned about it. I spoke with his vet and he was very unsympathetic and didnt seem to care whether my dog lived or not. I left and returned a little over an hour later to transfer him to Blue Pearl. I am 100% confident this decision saved my dogs life. Dr. Davis and Dr. Young had genuine concern for my dogs condition and also suspected lepto. They employed an aggressive treatment plan and never failed to update me every step of the way with the plan, possible next steps depending on my dogs progress, and a printed itemized cost sheet prior to their next action of treatment. Every staff member I came in contact with was amazing. The receptionists are extremely friendly and helpful and I called them crying more than once and they did a great job calming me down. I loved that while my dog was in their ICU for 6 days I could at ANY time, (I called several times a day, 1am, 4am, etc) and was transferred to the tech that was personally caring for my dog. I was so worried about him and it was so helpful to me to be able to call and check on him any time. Even after discharging on 8/20 Blue Pearl has been so helpful answering my questions as they arise. Dr. Young took the time to answer my questions about my dogs condition at home and recommended treatment options if he did not improve (he did thankfully!) I am forever grateful to Blue Pearl for saving my 7month old 5.5lb Chihuahua from lepto. They refused to give up on him, unlike the first vet, and gave him the absolute best care I could have ever hoped for. Was it expensive? Yes, definitely, but you get what you pay for. My dog was deathly ill and the top notch care and highly educated and experienced doctors and technicians saved his life. If I ever have another pet emergency I will not consider taking my pet anywhere else.
