UPDATE: After posting the review below, I received a phone call from Dr. Ryan. He called me to apologize for how the accidental medication debacle went down, explained to me what occurred in the clinic that day. He shared with me that a few of his regular staff were on leave, causing general confusion around the clinic, and he admitted that he didnt handle the event with the vaccination in the best possible way. In all of his glorious humanity he panicked at the thought of a patient receiving the wrong medication, and he assured me that he understood that his assistant made a mistake - but thats how we learn, and he vowed to continue to work with this assistant through the learning curve. He also thanked me for pointing out how he could have handled that situation differently. Dr. Ken told me that transparency is extremely important in his business, and he needed to document why there would be a missing bordetella vaccination in his supply. I had already checked out the day my dog received the mistaken vaccine, so it would make sense to make sure to put it in writing on my next bill. I truly appreciate the time that he took to call me and explain why he did what he did, and he had enough integrity to apologize for those things which he felt he could have handled differently. I am impressed. We all make mistakes - its what we do with those mistakes that makes us who we are. Previous Review Ive brought my animals to Skyline Vet for the past 15 years. The quality of care and compassion that my dogs and cats have received there is phenomenal. I trust both Doctors to always look out for what is in our best interest, and theyve even made themselves available for emergency phone calls when other guests were waiting. However, Im pretty uncomfortable with how the doctors treat human beings. Ive witnessed both men talk to techs and other vet staff with horrible disrespect, demeaning and shaming words, as well as straight out yelling at them in the presence of patients. Ive never seen the same staff there for more than a few months. I prefer not to write something this negative in a public venue, especially when my animals have been so well cared for by these doctors, but something happened last week which changed my mind. A tech or assistant accidentally gave my dog a medication that a different dog in the clinic should have received. The medication was a bordetella vaccine, which wasnt worrisome - but in the middle of the lobby with various dogs and their owners standing around, the young Doctor Speltz tore into the tech/assistant in front of EVERYONE. And continued to tell me and everyone else in the lobby that I received a "freebee" (being the vaccination). At no time did the doctor apologize to me for the fact that my dog had been given the wrong medication in front of his face. In his clinic. What if that had been a medication that my dog would have had adverse reactions to? What if that was my child? The only thing he acknowledged was that I didnt pay for that vaccination, and the public shaming of that poor woman who made a really horrible mistake. To make matters worse, I came in a week later for my dogs minor surgery, and he continued to refer to me (in front of me) to the other staff as "the one who got a freebee". Furthermore, he put the vaccination "at no cost" on my SURGERY INVOICE. I would seriously recommend this clinic to anyone who needs medical or dental care for their pet - but just remember, animal skills does not always equal people skills.

Wow! I chose Skyline to take my cat in for some vomiting problems shes been having simply because it was located by the church I got married in. I never take my indoor cats to the vet - this was the first time. Well, I immediately regretted my decision to take my cat in because before I reached the entrance - my cat was able to escape the carrier and dash across the parking lot. Panicking, I dropped all of my stuff and began chasing. I knew this cat was skiddish and I would NOT be able to catch her on my own - so I called the clinic and asked them for help. Immediately, the veterinarian and two technicians came out and began a very choreographed effort to corner my kitty and catch her! I did all I could to not get in the way - they were fully laying on the ground in grease puddles in the parking lot to coerce her out from under the vets own pick up truck! I was so shocked at their effort - and not being treated like an annoying customer who cant control her cat! Needless to say, after 15 minutes of careful positioning, they were able to catch my cat!!! I could NEVER give enough thanks to each of them! The exam went well, too! I explained what was going on with my cat and the vet went over IN length all of my options for this very common problem. The price was MUCH, MUCH less than I had expected ($62 for exam). I cant wait to bring my cat back there and I will make sure to have them safely confined when I do! THANKS A MILLION TO YOU AT SKYLINE!

We have taken all of our dogs to Skyline for many years. While we are not the most regular of customers--and thats our fault, busy lives and other issues get in the way!--whenever we make an appointment, were seen by Dr. Ken Speltz... not sure if his son, Dr. Ryan Speltz, is still there, I presume he is... Theyre both excellent veterinarians, with an amazing tableside manner with the pets they treat. The staff is always friendly and they treat everyone very well. And when our Dalmatian, Patch, stopped eating and was very sick? We brought him in, in an emergency, and when they were stumped? They told us--we dont know whats wrong, but take him to the University of MN College of Veterinary Medicine. Well call for you and let them know youre coming. So, if youre looking for excellent care from doctors who can help? Go to Skyline. When they dont know whats going on, and cant help? Not only will they not charge you for their time, but they will refer you to someone who can help. Our Patch recovered, but it was thanks to not only the U of M College of Veterinary Medicines staff, but to Dr. Speltz and his staff at Skyline. I highly recommend Skyline. I wouldnt take the only dog I have left anywhere else.

I took my cat in to the vet for a case of the sneezes that had lasted about two weeks...needing some peace of mind, I took him in to be sure that it wasnt anything too serious. After literally 10 minutes, with no tests and a very brief physical exam of an otherwise healthy cat, the doctor proclaimed that he had 1 of 2 horrible diseases (both viruses) and should probably go on strong antibiotics (which dont help viruses) and he should have expensive blood tests done to be sure. He didnt address my concerns about the prescription, and didnt provide a great rationale as to why he was so easily able to diagnose such awful infections with no proof to back it up. Not only that, but when I would try to ask questions, he would keep talking as if I hadnt said anything. Terrible customer service and a huge bill for a visit (if you could call 10 minutes a visit) has left me feeling much more scared than I had going in, and like I was pushed into paying for tests that probably werent necessary. Ill definitely be getting a second opinion, and I definitely would not go back.
