I normally review positive experiences, but feel compelled to share my visit today: I am in town for the holidays and needed an urgent chest X-ray for my dog to rule out pneumonia. Hes been recently diagnosed with a disease that makes him prone to aspiration, so pneumonia is a big concern for me (hes had it twice already this year). I made an appointment with Oakwood Vet Clinic and told Jessica, the receptionist, that my dog is wary of strangers and its best that their staff ignore him and dont give him eye contact until he has a chance to warm up to them. This rule goes double for my dog since this is a new facility for him and he doesnt know any of their staff. Hes a nervous guy and came in shaking from fear. When the vet and vet tech came in our room, guess what? They stared at him as they entered and he immediately reacted by growling. Off to a bad start. Next, the vet told me he didnt read any of my dogs medical records that were faxed over the day before, so I had to explain everything myself. Another red flag. The last straw came when the vet came back in the room (after I suggested he go read the records) and said that my dog must be sedated for the X-ray. My dog has had numerous X-rays over the past year due to his condition and sedation has never been required. (Interestingly, Jessica the receptionist mentioned sedation when I booked the appointment, which leaves me wondering if they drug all their patients unnecessarily.) I declined the sedation or any services from this clinic. As we were on our way out the door, I asked for my dogs records so I could take them to Kettering Animal Hospital, which is just a short drive away. The vet REFUSED to release the records without charging me a fee. He wouldnt give care to my dog without drugs, and then tried to ransom my dogs vet records for money on top of everything else. Further, in plain sight from the reception counter, I saw a boxer tethered to a cabinet with no one paying any attention to her, and she was crying. The "office dog" was roaming around off-leash with no supervision and no isolation from patients for disease-preventative reasons. None of what I saw or experienced was professional, sanitary, caring, or safe. Your pet (and my pup) deserve far better than what this clinic can offer. PS my dog got his chest X-ray without sedation in a walk-in appointment with the friendly staff at Kettering just after this incident!!

My cat and I have lived in 6 different states and visited many vet offices throughout the years. Oakwood Vet office surpasses any previous experience. The staff and Dr. Bielefeld are amazing. They treat you and your pet like family and take ample time during each visit to understand your concerns while treating your pet. Dr. Bielefeld explains all treatment options and possible outcomes thoroughly. He made sure I was comfortable with my choices and all my questions were answered. I appreciated his attention to detail and only recommended testing or treatments that would benefit my cat. Staff: quick response to voicemails left, easy to schedule appointments, help in any way possible to ensure an excellent experience. (I specifically worked with Kate and Rebecca...both amazing Vet Techs) I will forever be grateful for the empathy and compassion shown during our visits at the end of my cats life. This is the only vet office I will ever bring my pets to when Im here in Dayton.

I went back and forth over the decision to declaw my 2 year old cat, Daphne. I found out that Oakwood Vet did laser declawing (thus minimizing the recovery time and pain). I didnt personally meet the doctor, but my husband did. He said that he was smart and knowledgeable. I called the clinic several times in 2 days to check on Daphne. Everytime I called, I got a very thorough report back on how she was doing! It made me feel good to know that there were caring people there watching out for my cat post surgery. Margaret, the receptionist, was very knowledgeable and was the one answering my questions and giving me reports back on how Daphne was doing. I would recommend this vet for anything from surgery to regular routine checkups. Also- while Daphne was in surgery, they gave her a free combout and she came home looking like show cat!

Dr. Bielefeld and all the staff are great. Theyre all very friendly and seem to know their stuff. I had my cat spayed and declawed there and the whole experience was great. He uses laser surgery for declawing (not sure about spaying?) and it made the healing process much much easier. Visits never took very long which is great for someone with a busy schedule like me. Definitely recommend this vet!

I love the Vet. He is so calming and so good with my pet which is nervous and does not like to be handled. They are punctual and friendly. I believe i get excellent service. It is close, convenient and I believe competitively priced. I will continue to go top them as long as Dr. B is there.

Dr. B and his staff are really great. They are extremely accommodating, reasonably priced, and will even recommend OTC medications if possible. Ive been going here for over 10 years and have always felt like my animals are getting the best care.

We have been taking our dogs to Dr.Bielefeld for at least 15 years. We have found him to be competent, thorough, caring, and sensitive to the needs of our dogs (and us). He will also take time to explain things. Hes a good guy.

They said that they do have a vet that sees rats, but because he doesnt see them often he said it would cost $367 to neuter one. Outrageous! (FYI: Woodman Animal Clinic will do it for $75)

They almost killed my wifes cat when she had an allergic reaction to a shot. This place is over priced. I willnever take my pets back here again! Please go some place else!!
