Weve been taking my dog here since we first got him more than 10 years ago. We had zero problems with them for years. They are very clean, the staff is very friendly, and they can usually work appointments out rather quickly. A few years ago we took him in for a checkup and asked about if he should be getting his teeth cleaned since he was over 5. They said no and that there was nothing wrong with his teeth. We asked again at his next visit and the same happened. His third visit the vet said they should have started years ago and that my dog had gum disease. They pulled 5 teeth and told my mom it was her fault for not brushing them. We put it behind us. Fast forward to a few months ago. My dog developed a limp that would not go away. We took him in and they assumed it was a pulled muscle. They wrote him a prescription for an unnecessarily strong and expensive sedative when there were others that were just as effective and a quarter of the cost. He never got better and when we took him back they said we werent keeping him still and that we couldnt let him jump on things. We HADNT been letting him do that and crated the poor guy most of the day to protect him from himself. After they sent him to a specialist and they prescribed an unnecessary surgery for a partial acl tear he didnt even have, we took him to get a second opinion from a separate Vet. It turns out that over the past year he has been having a tumor growing in his leg thats too close to his spine now to operate on. It was fixable a few months ago but now it is going to spread to his spine and paralyze him. When the vet got the news from the third party Dr. they called us to say they were sorry my dog was going through this and that if WE would have presented them with the idea that it would have been fixed. THEYRE THE DOCTORS THOUGH. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO TELL THE DOCTORS HOW TO DO THEIR JOB. Im going to have to put down my best friend soon because of their neglect. They seem absolutely fine for checkups and minor things but heaven forbid something serious happens. With the serious things, they are horrible. They charge you too much, they never admit they might be wrong, and they dont do anything more than the minimum as far as Im concerned. Edit: I mean no disrespect to your establishment or your staff, like I said before, I had zero problems for years. Your staff is most certainly qualified and friendly and your facility is very clean. I understand that you all were working under impossible circumstances and I thank you for the care you provided but what I was upset about at the time I wrote the initial review was that my mother came home crying about a conversation with one of the vets. I do not know the whole story, I was not there, but she told me a vet was telling her she was the reason hemi wasnt getting better and that if we would have kept him still he might have gotten better. He was at that time, crated, and he WAS being kept still. At the time, nobody knew about the tumor. My mother told me she was crying in the lobby trying to tell the vet she was doing everything she could, and she WAS. I apologize for the hasty wording of the prior review, but my mother is as tough as nails and Ive only seen her cry once other than that time which means she was VERY upset. I am not upset about how hemis treatment took place, I am upset that my mother was disrespected in public. I acknowledge the difficulties veterinarians face on a daily basis and respect them for the services they provide despite rude customers and soul crushing situations, but my mother was told all of this in the lobby and not a private patient room, and was stared at by numerous strangers because of a situation she couldnt help. Looking back, almost absolutely everything you guys did for my dog and my mother was satisfactory, but it is this one incident that sparked me to (perhaps prematurely, but justifiably) write the negative review.

I switched to Douglassville Veterinary Hospital due to many recommendations from friends/acquaintances at my gym. I took my cat there for the first time only to find out that he was diabetic among a few other things. Dr. Geoff was very supportive and helped me deal with the situation. He went over feline diabetes with me and EXACTLY what I needed to do for Walle. We had a few rough spots but now we have been back on track and Walle has been stable for 5 months now. I deal with the staff when I have to call in for supplies and they have always been very polite and pleasant to deal with. They are all very compassionate people and you can see they enjoy what it is they do and I will continue to take my animals there! They always see my animals within a timely fashion and pricing is reasonable. More so than places I have taken my animals before here. Great job! Keep up the great work!

These folks are wonderful! The office staff are all so helpful and courteous and helpful. Its so essential to be greeted by a friendly and caring face at what can often be a traumatic time for a pet owner. I have been bringing my pets here since they opened. I have been to other vets in the area and on the mainline and I have yet to find any place that comes close to this with their knowledge, skill and compassion. They have laughed with me cried with me and always gone the extra mile for me and my pets. Their compassion and genuine love for animals impresses me every time I do business and I am so happy to have such a great place to take my pets. They are voted best in Berks County all these years because they are the best! Thank you, Douglassville Veterinary Hospital, Dr, JoAnne Dewire, Dr. Geoffrey Dewire and all the other doctors and staff! Miss Tasha says "Thanks for saving my life!"

I wouldnt dream of taking my pets to any other veterinarian hospital! The staff and doctors at Douglassville Veterinary Hospital are the best skilled professionals around. They are a home away from home for pets and their owners. Everyone I have met and worked with, loves my pets, and I appreciate their time with each visit. Dr. Geoff DeWire is a wonderful veterinarian and his staff of lovely ladies, are the absolutely the best ever! What is important to me is the consistent authenticity of each person who works at the hospital. They are a truly caring, compassionate, dedicated, hardworking staff. Dr. Geoff needs to throw a great holiday party for his staff!!! Way to go Geoff Baby! Linda and Pete Christ, Roxy and Hades

I brought my dog Chooch to Douglassville Vet Hospital (which is an hour away from my house!) because I was failing to find any vets in my area that really cared about my accident prone dog and how to get to the bottom of/diagnose his ongoing issues. The veterinarians, technicians, and front desk staff at Douglassville Vet are PHENOMENAL! Everyone is very professional, knowledgeable, kind, and caring. They really took the time to listen to me about my dogs issues, and quirky personality. Other hospitals have had difficulty handling my dog, but this was not an issue here. More importantly, Dr. Geoff was able to quickly get him on the road to recovery. The hospital, staff, and service have by far, exceeded my expectations!
