My girlfriend had been taking her dog here a few times for day care (we both work). The last time we took him (which is the last time ever, as you will soon see), we got him back covered in dirty sticky gunk and stinking of a mix between urine and chemicals. It was all over him and he began vomiting after we took him home (straight into a bath) and continued the next day. We took him to an animal hospital and they diagnosed him with pancreatitis. When we called to express our dismay they were not proactive about solving the problem, they could only claim about how clean their facility was. While most see pets as mere animals, you live with one enough and you kind of have to feel for the little guy. And when it comes to living things that are considered part of a family, theres not a whole lot of room for error. Nobody would take their baby back to a daycare that "shook a baby just one time". Anyway, I was angered enough to write this review. Unfortunately, as they say in the military, one "oh sh**" will wipe out 100 "atta boys". Our pet is currently convalescing with an IV attached.

Nothing about this place was enjoyable. I got a call 20 minutes before my appointment telling me they were running an hour behind for their vet appointments. Of course by this point I was already in the car and had to turn around. I still ended up waiting for over a half hour in the waiting room. Most vets that I encounter arent super personable but this woman was straight up rude. She didnt pass anything by me prior to doing it and ended up giving my dog FOUR shots (we were only there for his rabies vaccine) without explaining why he needed them or what they were. Sure enough I get to the counter to pay and it was $300! Also, the vet refused to write me a prescription for the heartworm preventative saying that you never know what you get when you order online. I told her Ive ordered from 1800 pet meds before without incident but it didnt matter. She said if I brought in the catalog they would honor the lower price but I had to bring that in and come in when a specific manager was working. No thanks. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

I have taken my little (and precious) 11-month old Chihuahua, Tatonka, to Rhode Island Animal Medical Center for his shots and veterinary services since bringing him home, and to the on-site day care ever since he received his required immunizations, and it has been a wonderful experience from the beginning. He absolutely LOVES to go to the day care (he practically pushes me out of the car as soon as we park!) He has received nothing but the best of care and lots of love and attention from the entire staff, and they have always been warm and friendly to me. When I have requested last minute that he stay overnight, they have been more than accomodating and he has always come home just as clean (even more so!) than when he left. They also have a grooming facility and they do a great job too. I know that when I leave Tatonka there that he is in loving, capable hands - and to me - that peace of mind is priceless. I cannot imagine ever taking him anywhere else!

MAKE SURE YOU READ THEIR WEBSITE I used the boarding for my dogs while I was in town for a wedding. The customer service felt very rushed and impersonal. "Boarding Packages* *per calendar day per animal, if you do not understand please ask our staff." They charge you for the day no matter what time you pick your pets up. I dropped my dogs off by 1pm on Friday and picked them up at 9am on Sunday. They were at the facility less than 48 hours and I was charged for 3 DAYS. It would make sense to charge per calendar day if theyre there for over half the day. But picking them up at 9am when they open...what did they do for my dogs that warrants the extra day charge, aside from feed them one meal? The other thing thats surprising is that they put on their website "Four Paws is a Combat Veteran owned business" but should also include "But we offer no military discount except "Wednesdays for appointments or some obscure thing"

I dropped my cat off Friday for a long weekend expecting a $54 invoice ($18/day boarding fee). I retrieved my cat Tuesday and the vet had to have a conference with me. She was very polite and professional but my cat now had a potentially serious infection. They said it was likely a preexisting condition; however, the cat received a clean bill of health at my vet the day I dropped him off at Four Paws Pet Resort / Warwick Animal Medical Center (I had to bring him in to get records to provide 4 Paws). I understand these things happen occasionally but the icing on the cake was that I had to pay an additional $100 for the exam, treatment, and meds due to the infection he contracted while at their facility! When I pointed out the irony in this the vet apologized but did not offer to reimburse any part of it. Based on this review I sincerely hope Four Paws implements a strict cleaning procedure of their kennel facility.

***USE EXTREME CAUTION*** Absolutely horrible experience. I dropped off my dog to stay for 1 week. He was in great shape when I dropped him off. When I picked him up he could barely stand. I had to rush him to Ocean State Vetrinary Specialists for emergency treatment. According to two specialists he was absolutely dehydrated. Despite their best efforts my dog passed away a day later. They suggested I contact Four Paws immediately to seek reimbursement for expenses. I eventually got a hold of the owner who was very disrespectful and tried to blame his death on pre-existing conditions. I just had my dog at the local vet a week prior and he was in great shape for his age. Both specialists at Ocean State feel that this was due to either lack of water or being left outside in the heat. I will be filing complaints and seeking legal action. ***USE EXTREME CAUTION***

On the way out of town, was blindsided at the last minute with nearly $200 in technician and heart worm tests for boarding. I could have taken care of such tests for a much lower expense as I was at my regular vet the day before to update what I was told were required vaccinations for boarding. They did not specify over the phone and blood tests were not specified on their website as a requirement. We also have proof of preventative treatment. Despite the deceptive and unethical billing, my efforts to resolve this discrepancy have been met in an unprofessional manner by omission. Its been over a month after and several phone calls since; my concerns have yet to be responded to by anyone in a position of authority.

I know that this is a for profit business, but they are just unethical. I brought my dog in for an ear infection, and was NEVER TOLD that her heartworm vaccination was due. When I called to get a prescription for heartworm medication for 1-800-pet meds, they stated I needed to bring her back in for her heartworm shot. So, thats an extra exam fee, an extra lab fee, and a medication fee, 2 DAYS after I last brought her in. Unacceptable to put my dog through another exam just two days later when they could have just done it all at the same time. They never even told me she was due for her shot, and I would have neglected this very important health issue had I not called.
