First of all, Im pretty sure that most of the positive ratings here were written by hospital staff in an attempt to counteract ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! I wish I had taken the time to review this hospital before an emergency situation landed me there. I got compassionate care from the No. Charleston EMS team that took me there but bad advice on where to go. Trident Medical Center is NOT where you want to go for quality care. I entered ER in the evening with heart issues. I was still in ER, as an admitted pt. the next morning, waiting for a bed. During that time I NEVER knew who was in charge of my care, if my cardiologist had been called(he wasnt), who was coming into my room(hardly anyone introduced themselves or explained their role), what was being done and why, what my diagnosis was etc. my fiancé was kept waiting in The ER waiting room for nearly an hour with No communication about me . He didnt know how I was, if Anyone knew who he was there with, even if I was alive or not(last he saw me I was put into an ambulance in NirthCharleston with chest discomfort and tightness). I was in an ER room asking for him throughout that entire time . My initial medical caregiver ( dont know name, position etc.) told me that I was in Atrial fibrillation and would be admitted. I never saw that person again. My first nurse, Mary Jo, gave me fairly good care but was not there after a few hours. I really dont know who else took care of me or saw me during that time except I remember being told that a new shift of nurses would arrive around 4:30 am to open another wing and I would be transferred to a room then. Well after breakfast time I had finally had it and turned off the monitors that had beeped continuously for over an hour with absolutely no response from anyone in the ER. I had already silenced them as many times as I could take. I had walked to the restroom twice, my fiancé went to the cafeteria and got us some food, and I had not gotten any of my routine meds. In fact one person told me they did not have any orders on me???? I called out to a young woman in the hallway who I believe said her name was Crystal. I sort of "list it" on her explaining my frustration. She discounted my statement that no one responded to the beeping alarm on the monitor saying"they would have if it was an actual emergency?". She also told me they arent used to having admitted puts. In ER so that is probably why I hadnt gotten food or meds or anyone that knew what was going on with me!!! I was finally taken to a room on the 5th floor, where I waited 45 mins. For a nurse to admit me to the room, only to be told she was waiting for discharge orders!! She did not know my diagnosis and said that I had been on Normal Sinus Rhythm the entire time I was in the hospital. I asked her to dbl. check that and she said she would. She came back to discharge me and never mentioned it and I took discharge papers and walked out of the hospital disgusted. I never even used the bed, only the chair. Today I received a bill for $18,223 with no itemized charges. I have called to request an itemized bill and my medical records. I was told I DO NOT OWN my records and would have to get a release from the facility!! For $18,000 I dont even own my own records and I have no idea who does! Bad hospital, bad care, bad customer service!!!!

Our 3 year old daughter fell and cut her head requiring stitches. We rushed her to the closest ER location which happened to be this one. The waiting room was filled with what seemed like makeshift air conditioning and cubical walls and was fairly empty when we arrived. They took us back and gave her a watered down numbing solution on her wound and Tylenol, telling us they had to wait 45 minutes for the numbing solution to take effect first and then they would apply the stitches. 45 minutes turned into 2 hours later when they inform us they are coming soon. My daughter was burning up and sweating due to a lack of airflow throughout the rooms, she is already very uncomfortable and very scared. I was then told it would just be a little while longer, they just have to get some extra hands to hold her down. I explained with her being 3, I was not comfortable with a bunch of people holding her down and asked if there was something that could be given to help her relax and sleep while they do this (as it was now 11pm , she would most likely sleep through most of it). My wife and I were told by the PA that they dont do that, but that she will probably be fine. We couldnt seem to get an answer from anyone when concerned about the numbing solution still being useful after 2 hours when originally told 45 minutes was the time needed. I spoke with another nurse about our concerns and was told that she could probably be given a mild sedative to keep her relaxed. The original PA (that said that they dont do that), then came in and agreed that they could do it with no problem. This was completely contradicting her previous statement. It would just be another 45 min... My wife and I were not comfortable with the lack of knowledge demonstrated, the lack of care about our daughters pain levels and felt overall very uneasy about the entire situation. We should not be left questioning if the staff is competent enough to help. This is simply not the way a hospital should be run. We ended up feeling it was necessary to leave and drive to the next ER, taking our daughter to MUSC where she was seen and cared for immediately. The care and service at MUSC was outstanding.

Horrible !! Cannot believe the level of un professionalism. Was seen in the E.R for severe abdominal pain, blood in urine , fever . After being questioned eccesivly in front of everyone in the waiting room , then waiting for 1.5 hours for anything to be done .. meanwhile my fever is up to 102.4 I was told I have a "simple urinary tract infection" was given antibiotics and pain meds and sent home. 24 hours later my symptoms have steadily gotten worse. I called trident E.R and spoke to a nurse . She told me that if I felt that they dident help i could go somwhere else. So I went to m.u.s.c , turned out I had a severe kidney infection and a kidney stone. And to top my crappy experience , the nurses where talking crap about there patients, right at the nurses station. when I told the charge nurse about this her words where "I couldent imagine our staff being that way " Unfortunately a month later I needed to be seen again and at the time the closest hospital was trident. Due to the amount of pain I was in and puking everywhere . I went. After being checked in and triaged , went back to a room. After being questioned by yet another nurse . I was told thier computer systems where down and it would take a while. After taking some "notes" . She quickly got called out of the room , leaving the papers on the computer keybord . So I read them . AT THE TOP OF THE PAPER IT READ "seeking pain meds" underlined and all . I quickly took a picture with my phone and put the papers back . Well this time they came to the diagnosis of another uti. After giving me I .v antibiotics and offering pain meds "which I turned down " . I asked to speak to the doctor. I told him what I had seen and he lied to my face. I then asked for my discharge papers and left. I have contacted people higher up . But it is no use . I have waited weeks for a call back ect. I would NOT recommend going to this hospital if you have a choice. And for the record : after requesting and getting my complete medical records from both my E.R visits. All drug screens came back negitive.
