This vet is wonderful if you have a healthy pet. But, if theyre sick, run as fast as you can away from this establishment. I have taken 3 pets there for years: 2 dogs, 1 cat, all elderly. When they experienced liver and kidney issues, the vets as well as techs said Theres really nothing you can do. It just happens with age. I had every imaginable blood test and trusted them. Then, I began reading online the many mainstream approaches vets take to remedy these issues and I was so disappointed NONE of these measures were ever mentioned at Southern Vet. I even asked the vet straight out about these treatments and she looked at me sideways. I tried a different vet as a "second opinion" and they immediately began antibiotics and other prescriptions to decrease ALT levels and even helped me modify a diet to address kidney disease. My pets are now doing great and their blood levels are normal. If you have a pet you adore, dont trust these people. The ladies who work up front are lovely, but the vets and techs are completely lazy when it comes to treating serious diseases. Ive never written a review before and Im only doing so in the hope to save other furbabies from what nearly happened to my own.

Been going to Premier for a few years until they moved in to their larger more modern faciltiy. No bad experience there just that the wait times have become unacceptable expecially when you have an appointment - last one was almost 3 hours - and that was at the old facility. Teddy - our daughers 10 year old pom/yorkie mix developed diabetes and was urininating constantly in the house. Took him to Southerna and the doctor was very understanding in how she explained the situation - the care and required procedures needed to keep him stable. This involved 2 shots a day for the rest of his life. He already was a very skittish dog and the thought of having to give him shots was almost unbearable. When we decided to let him rest in peace - she was very understanding and made no attempt to make us feel guilty about our decision. Apparantly he was sicker than originally thought as the sedative that was given in preparation for euthanasia was all that was needed - his heart stopped with just that shot. I have an appointment for our Frenchie to get him up-to-date on shots, etc. today.

I dont normally post reviews, but I was blown away by the care we received at Southern. After having a terrible experience at Premier, my husband and I brought our sweet dog, Bailey, to Southern. It was 5:10 PM and they were about to close at 5:30 PM and were more than happy to see Bailey. Long story short, my husband and I just moved to Smyrna this week and had not found a vet yet. Upon getting home, Bailey was hunched over in pain and looked as if he had hurt his back (We assume from jumping down from the couch or bed). We quickly got in the car and headed to Premier where we were told it would be a long wait and would be charged an additional $15 per hour after 5 PM. We decided not to stay and headed to Southern. Everyone was so understanding and welcoming and Dr. Jensen was amazing! Thank you to everyone at Southern for taking such good care of Bailey and us! We are happy to have found a vet in Smyrna and cant wait to recommend yall to our friends!

Ive been utilizing Southern Veterinary for years with 3 pets. Theyre great with standard care - shots, etc., and are very careful to make sure you and your pet are comfortable. I have a cat, though, who started opening her mouth very quickly and repeatedly for about 2 minutes maybe twice a day. They immediately assumed she was FIV positive (as I did have 1 cat at the time who was) and was having seizures. The real culprit -a loose fang, which eventually came out completely. They didnt even open her mouth. She is still FIV negative, by the way, but I went thorugh a good deal of guilt before I found out for sure. Its not cheap taking your pet for care, especially emergent care, and the physician should exhaust all possibilities before making an assumption that could very well change the way you treat your animal in the present and in the future. Im looking for another vet at this time.

Besides being great vets, Southern has the best kennel care that I have ever used. Warning,, if you are going to kennel your dog over a major holiday, 4th of July, Christmas, etc; I would call about 2 weeks in advance and make reservations. I learned the hard way that they do fill up. Once when I was visiting in NYC, a question came up, they called me on my cell phone while I was on the Staten Island Ferry. We got the problem resolved by phone, and I finished my vacation knowing my dog had the very best care. Another time I was in NYC again, wanted to stay over a couple of extra days. Just called Southern Vet and worked out the details in just a few seconds. I am so happy that I moved to a town that has such wonderful vet care.

I absolutely LOVE this vet clinic..!! I had to put down my dog last week who was my EVERYTHING... They were SO nice there... They didnt rush me before or after, they consoled me and talked to me to help ease my guilt... I cremated MILLIE and got her back today and when I started crying the lady helping me came out and held me while I broke down... I didnt know it but after they took MILLIE away and before they sent her to be cremated they made me a plaster paw impression of her foot and wrote MILLIE on it... What a nice surprise to have..!! I got a new Dachshund puppy today and they will definitely be my forever vet clinic..!! I would recommend them to ANY AND EVERYONE..!! Thank you to them..!! Lisa Guyton

Today I abounded my local vet for Southern veterinary clinic! My local vet was booked and my kittens were sick. Made a quick call and got an appointment same day. I was so impressed with the staff, their cat only rooms and waiting area, and how professional and courteous the doctor was. I had so many questions and she had all the answers and then some. I left with all the medications I needed, was shown how to administer it, a new cat guide that came with amazing information!

This office is overpriced and has never seemed to understand my dog. They have her breed down as a dog that has no resemblance of her. I wish I would have done research prior going to this vet of other vets in the area. I have been laughed at over the phone when calling in and asking a question about my puppy. We spent hundreds of dollars in puppy vaccinations and plenty of other vets in the area charge significantly less.
