I hate that there is a limit on the amount of characters to a post because there is no way to fit everything in about our experience into this small amount of space, but I will try. On April 29th, my father was brought into the ER at Charlton. Heres the bulleted version of events that happened: * Hes in end stage lymphoma and a nurse tells my mom that "hes not that sick" when she questioned the "care" (or lack thereof) that he was receiving. * My mom had to go hunt down a pan for him to throw up in. She also had to hunt down something for him to drink. * After being told around 4ish that they were going to admit him, it took until almost 10:30ish to get him into a room. * The oncall doctor claimed to be the second in command of the entire hospital. When my mom asked about getting him to a room after almost 8 hours of being there, the doctor said "well, what do you want me to do" and walked out. He was admitted and taken to the 8th floor and then later to ICU. Heres the rundown of events on these two floors: * May 1, my dad was throwing up severely and had soiled his sheets from vomiting. I found out that his sheets had not been changed once since being admitted on April 29 (at least not that my mom could recall). I go to get a nurse only to be told that it was a techs job. I see his tech hanging out down the hall in a chair playing on her phone. I question this and was told that all the techs were at lunch and that tech was guarding a fall risk patient - itll be almost an hour before someone can come in to assist you. I complain and his nurse ends up taking care of him. * May 4 - we receive the news that my dad is not going to make it and take the steps to make him comfortable. He passes away at 10:04pm. Stephanie, the chaplain, comes in and wants to take care of business matters. Not okay when the doctor is still doing his examination and my mom is collapsed on the floor crying. At least wait until things are a little calmer and dont push the issue when you are asked to wait. * May 4 - we are finally calm enough to leave the room and go home. Outside the room, my mom asked the nurse if she could sit for a minute. The charge nurse comes running over and tells my mom that if she sits, theyll need to call a code and send my mom to the ER to be checked. My mom has breathing issues, and she just watched her husband pass away not even 30 minutes before - all she wanted to do was sit for a minute and catch her breath before making the trek to the car. Charge nurse continues to badger my mom and tell her that she must call a code even though my mom is fine and is just trying to keep from crying. The nurse and technician that had been taking care of my dad that evening looked like they wanted to die of embarrassment. The charge nurse continues to badger my mom and finally my mom snaps and tells the charge nurse to show a little empathy for someone that had just lost their husband. The charge nurse continues to not let up. Finally, my mom gets up and walks off. I take off after my mom and I can hear my husband behind me telling the charge nurse to just let it go since she had now turned to my husband and was badgering him. The charge nurse sent the technician out with us to make sure my mom would be okay. The technician apologized for the charge nursess behavior and even told us that she couldnt believe that had just happened. Its sad when a subordinate has to apologize for their supervisor. I could go a lot more into detail on the incidents that occurred, but have to conserve space. Ill just say this, the staff needs to be better trained on handling sensitive issues. I pray that another family does not have to go through the nightmare that we did with the staff at Charlton.

On January 24th, 2017 I took my mother to the ER and Dr. Stephanie Quarles is the ER doctor there. My mom had been having severe chest pains that have been occurring for the past two weeks. On this day the pain was unbearable. The complaint comes in the form for being treated as if we were worthless, uneducated, and beneath Dr. Quarles. My mom has been working at this same hospital for over 12 years and praise people about how respectful and professional everyone here are. We were at the ER for over a period of six and half hours, and was never felt her concerns was taken serious. Dr. Quarles asked if my mother needed pain medication (hydrocodone) and it take an additional 45 minutes to obtain the medication. I asked how come we had not been placed into a room where my mom could get more comfortable as we wait the results of her tests from the chest pain. No one got back to us with the information even though we saw and heard patients that came after us being escorted to their room. My mom was very disappointed in being treated badly at this hospital that she has praised and worked for the last 12 years. Standing in the hospital ER where all the staffed work. I asked Dr. Quarles for the head manager information who is over the ER department. Dr. Quarles did not want to provide the information, but insist on paging the head manager. We had been waiting for over an hour for the head manager and we told Dr. Quarles this. I then ask Dr. Quarles to provide me with her information and she said she would give me a photocopy. Due to it not being any paper in the printer, Dr. Quarles scribbled her name on a paper. Then I asked her for a photo copy that she told me she would provide me with. She only scribbled her name on the paper, said no and tossed the paper at me with a smile on her face as she walked away. As the paper hit the ground, I asked where is the professionalism in this hospital. My mom and I felt very disrespected from Dr. Quarles. Over the past 12 years of my mom working at this same hospital, every employee has represented Charlton Methodist South Dallas with class, dignity, and integrity. Over the years of visiting my mom at her place of work. I saw professionalism among the staff and great conditions of the hospital. Dr. Stephanie Quarles acted in a unprofessional way toward us in front of her peers, two officers from the Cedar Hill Police Department, and other patients. As a professional in the investments industry I know the importance of treating every client with dignity and respect. Due to having this experience, I would not recommend Dr. Stephanie Quarles to work with any patients nor represent Methodist Charlton Medical Center South Dallas. Over the years this hospital has seen far better professionals than Dr. Stephanie Quarles. At this moment, I would have to refer anyone who needs emergency attention to seek another hospital.
