I honestly do not trust them... my dog was loosing hair so I toke them in and then they insisted they needed to do every lab and every shot they could think of. I love my dog but Im a broke college student and she is extremely healthy. I feel like half the things they were checking for you would have noticed with out the test that they required. After the vet left with my dog to run a few tests she came back upset. She tells me I would have to come back with a stool sample for her since my dog was to aggressive and tried to bite her. I thought my dog is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet.. so I asked her why did she try to bite you and the vet told me as if it was a surprise to her. I tried to collect the stool sample.. I ask how do you do that. She looked at me and said we collect it by putting this tool up her butt. So Im like you must be stupid to think my dog wont bite you for that. If you think i dog wont bite you for that and that she is an "Aggressive" for it.. you are an idiot and know nothing. I honestly thought they would try to walk her or something or just give me a cup to take home in the first place. But they did not inform me of this ahead of time, which i feel that they should have asked first. I would see some people having an issue with it seeing that its not necessary to collect the sample. My last complaint other then the medications being over priced is that when they finally got to checking for skin mites she took a skin sample ran to the back and looked under a microscope and then came back. She got a result in about 5 to 10 min and charged me $50 dollars for nothing!

I am very disappointed to say the least with the lack of service I received at this facility. I made an appointment for my 2 year old cat because she had been vomiting for 2 days and I was very concerned because she had never been sick before. The receptionist was wonderful, attentive , concerned and made me feel a little better considering how down I was about my sick cat. The Doctor came in the room where I was waiting to be seen and asked a couple of questions, felt my Kittys abdomen then said she was worried about my cat and that she would be back with a treatment plan. I waited about five minutes then she came back in with a piece of paper that contained an itemized list of things she thought would be best for Kitty. I looked it over and then came to the total price section for the treatment plan including 2 days of hospitalization, x-rays and blood-work-$1300 plus. Needless to say I could not afford to pay that much and even applied for credit to help but was denied. The Doctor did not suggest any options other than 2 antibiotic shots, she never even checked my cats temperature. I agreed to the shots because I did not want my cat to suffer, I left not knowing what was wrong with her and no clue what to do. The Doctor did not seem to care much about animals and it showed in her treatment or lack of. I would have been fine with them running test to find out what was wrong with my cat but the Doctor did not extend that offer without 2 days of hospitalization. I payed my bill and left feeling like it was a total waste of my time and money.

I just left the vet because my dog had diarrhea for 4 days. The appt was $65.50. The x-ray was $290. I agree that it was a good idea to check and make sure no toy fragments were caught in his intestines. She didnt see anything but is sending it to a specialist just to be sure there is nothing in there that is too small to see. I got meds for his diarrhea. I also went ahead and got his 6-month refill of his combo guard because it was due this month. I got out of there at $534. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, I will not be paying 3 other bills this week. However, I feel confident in his care. I trust them and so I bring him here. That is the nature of the beast. I am a realist. You have to protect your pack. You must have at least a modicum of intelligence to understand that things occur with humans and animals both. Illness, disease, injury - that is a fact. If you cannot afford to care for your children or animals then you should not have any. For the rest of us that "get" it...you lick your wounds and move on. Thank you, VCA Desoto, for caring for Buddy.

I have used VCA a variety of times only for convenience, although this is the most expensive place to go. I am totally done with VCA. I called today to schedule a neuter for my puppy and the first price I was given was around $340. I asked the lady is this the lowest and base price or have you added anything on? She said this is the starting price. Well she finally told the truth when I asked her to pull up my other dogs neuter price.......then she preceded to say well, I added in labs and some other things. Totally unprofessional. I spoke to the manager, Amy, and she was "soooooooo" certain that her staff did not have any intent to mislead. Well this ex customer is done with VCA. I am certain what I received is their "typical best practices." Please check around and check other prices of various vets in the area. You will be glad you did!

One of their veterinarians was exceptional however the other veterinarian that we saw was perhaps just out of school but seemed unsure and missed a obvious diagnosis that was later confirmed by radiologic scans. We requested and scheduled an appointment to match that vets schedule but the office staff did not make the experienced vet aware of our request. Unfortunately, the veterinarian that did the procedure on our family pet was unexperience with the breed and our pet didnt survive what should have been a simple procedure. Other than the fact that an inexperienced veterinarian misdiagnosed a lesion as being normal size while by x-ray, it was considered significantly increased in size, then over-anesthesized a healthy dog, they were always timely, courteous, and reasonably priced.

Given the rapid increases in cost of medical care for humans, I am amazed that VCA is outdoing these increases. For example, over the last year they have increased their cost no less than 20%. Now if youre a person on an unlimited budget these increases may not matter. But for most of us, this can become a problem. Each time I promise that I will not go back to VCA--forget and do, I kick myself and ask "why did I do this?", because invariably they have increased their cost. The level of service provided by VCA does not warrant their level of price increases. Next time my beloved pet needs medical service, I will look for another Vet that has reasonable stable prices.
